I need a game that really hooks when you start playing, either with the story or the gameplay or the setting or whatever. Something that makes you not want to stop and play any other game. I have trouble with starting a game, getting a little progress, then getting distracted with another game or another Isaac run or whatever.

This is part of my "most interested" backlog. Which of these games did you play that really sucked you in until you finished the game?

Alice Madness Returns
Alien: Isolation
Alpha Protocol
Ascendant
Assassin's Creed Black Flag
Assassin’s Creed III
Besiege
Bionic Commando
CoD: Advanced Warfare
Dark Souls II
Darkness II
Devil May Cry 4

Mark of Ninja and Banner Saga are the best. I remember being totally sucked into Riddick: Escape from Butcher's Bay, don't know about the Dark Athena, though.

Papo and yo is pretty short and is one of the few games I managed to complete recently without getting distracted

Mark of Ninja!

It really fun to try finish each level undetected and without killing anyone(except first one when its part of tutorial)
Plus it has interesting ending.

or Dark souls 2 if you haven't played dark souls/demons souls. Its more of the same really... With copy/paste bosses too sadly.

I see a few people recommending FC3 however aside from some of the main game it is wide as lake, shallow as a puddle. I put about 40hours in it but quite a chunk of that was just collecting random crap whilst watching something on netflix. It can be fun but it is the mindless type and gets boring real quick once you see how repetitive everything is outside the main story.. :)

Personally I would go with Dragon Age Origins if you are looking for games you can spend a great deal of time in.
I have about 43 hours and that was not doing all the side quests/exploring everything.

However if you're okay with shorter experience Papo & Yo (7 hours 2xruns), Rayman Origins (21 hours) & Mark of the Ninja (11 hours) are also great games.

I haven't played everything you have on that list though and heard good things about a lot of them. :(

There's nothing wrong with another Binding of Isaac run!

Splinter Cell Blacklist: - Probably the best stealth game I have played in the past decade. Various ways to play it, but ghost mode provided a ton of fun.
Assassin's Creed Black Flag - This game and AC2 are normally regarded as the best in the series, It takes some time before the naval battles get fun, but once you start upgrading, you might end up spending hours just sailing around getting into random encounters just for the loot and plunder yarrrrrr

Out of these games, I only got around to trying 3: Besiege, Lovely Planet, Mark of the Ninja.

Out of these 3, only Lovely Planet somehow held my interest beyond an hour :(

And then I got kind of stuck on a later stage Lovely Planet level and gave that up too :(

(Not saying they're bad just because I gave up, I'm still aiming to go back to playing them someday)
