I have just finished Vampire the Masquerade Bloodlines (which was AMAZING), and now I'd like to find another rpg that placed to modern times. Near future is also ok, like Fallout, but not really into any laser guns and space stations. Any ideas? =)

Same here. Sometimes RPG can be too generic, set in medieval ages, slaying dragons and orcs.

Anyway, you might want to have a look at Shadowrun Returns. Or SWKOTOR.

yes, i am also kinda bored of the hilariously many fantasy rpg games. I love kotor, and also swtor btw, but now I dont really into any scifi future universe themed games

Alpha Protocol may or may not be what you're looking for, depending on what matters to you in an RPG. The combat and gameplay is merely pretty OK and there are some technical glitches you may or may not encounter, but the decision making element is really well done with lots of opportunities to impact the story.

Persona games are good if you like Japan.

Or you could just buy RPG maker with the modern day tileset and make your own >.>

Alpha Protocol really might be your best bet. It has some very major issues, especially with the occasional severe screwup in the storytelling, but it's a fairly enjoyable game regardless.

For what it's worth you might want to check out Vampire: Redemption. It has quite a bit of modern era stuff in it, and although it's not as good as Bloodlines, it's still quite nice.

And there's also Shadow Hearts for the PS2. Those games are more on the early 20th century side, but still closer than Skyrim/The Witcher/Gothic/Fable. The JRPG style might not suit you though, if you're not into that. Same thing goes for the Persona and Shin Megami Tensei games.

hmm, I thought that Redemption is in medieval times. It is gets through different ages as u progress in the story? I need to give it a try, ty for the suggestion =)

I felt Alpha protocol was more of a shooter with RPG elements than an RPG with shooter elements.

If you played Mass Effect its like that.

Yeah, I did hardly any/no shooting in Alpha Protocol. Was a bit sketchy being stealth built when I got to Spazzy McStab in Russia(I think, been awhile).

I'm in on this thread just to follow. Very curious myself.

Thanks for the above Shadowruns suggestions. Now on my wishlist to follow as it unfolds.

Sounds like there might be a market for a well done RPG in semi-realistic times.

I belive there might be... To be honest I am really surprised how many fantasy themed mmo, and rpg relasing every year while there is not a single realistic like mmo/rpg on the market. Thats why I hope that the world of darkness mmo somehow will make it to be relased.

Mother 2, Crystalis, Final Fantasy IV, Seikun Densetsu 2, Terranigma.

Oh, you didn't want JRPGs? Sorry, those are all I know. The real RPGs.

Terranigma... set in an alternate world/ recreated earth Seikun Densetu2 = Secret of Mana, set in alternate world with knights and magic. Final Fantasy IV - alternate earth and even has a sort of space station (lunarians fake moon) Crystalis I think is supposed to be set in the far future but its pretty much fantasy. The problem with the list you provided is probably not that they are JRPGs but that they don't match the OP's request at all!
Mother 2 (= Earthbound) I would grant you though. As to JRPGs being real RPGs...hmmm, I'm not a huge fan of most JRPGS thanks to the list based combat, (pick attack pick attack, pick spell, repeat etc.) but 3 of the five games you mention are action rpgs so maybe you aren't either :p

Terranigma is post-apocalyptic earth. Fallout is, too, so it counts.

As for Action RPGs- Those were off the top of my head. Turn based is my favorite typs of RPG. Games like Pokemon, Cthulu saves the world, etc.

I'd have to second Alpha Protocol, it even shared one of the main designers from Bloodlines (Brian Mitsoda, though some sources say his work didn't carry into the final version of Alpha Protocol). Yeah it's clunky, but you won't find such a deep RPG experience in a modern setting anywhere else.

So, I'm following this thread, but I have to ask - What games DON'T require you to buy a console?

If I'm following correctly right now... The games that are on PC are... Deus Ex, Alpha Protocol, and Shadow Run?

Er. Console in general, whatever. Some of the Personas are on PS1/2.
Mother 2, Crystalis, Final Fantasy IV, Seikun Densetsu 2, Terranigma. <- Not PC.

I was just listing games that from what I've understood so far are on PC.

I'll just edit the post

Actually, my post was perfectly fine. I asked what games DON'T require you to buy a console, and then I listed the ones that didn't require a console.
