Update:

This thread is closed for now. The users within the group have voted on some changes, and a new application thread with these changes included will be up in a while, when I have some more time for it.

All users who applied so far should have been gone through and invited by group admin kelnage. If you didn't make it this time, keep on playing your won games, update your BLAEO pages accordingly, and I hope you'll apply again when the new topic is up!

Hey there Steamgifts!

We have a friendly little giveaway group that could use more users. For us it's important that the users are the right ones for this group, so please spend some time reading this description.

Most of the members of the group think it's more enjoyable to do giveaways where the winner ends up playing the game, and that's exactly what the group is for: members on Steamgifts who like playing their won games. By playing, we don't just mean idle for the cards or try the game for 20 minutes then retire it, but playing it for real and finishing it. The group is focused around playing and finishing games both in general and games won on Steamgifts (and the group) in particular.

Our current members are a bit picky (in a good way), only entering giveaways for games they would actually play, and that's one thing we're looking for in new members - those of you who know which games you would want to play, enter giveaways only for those, and then go on playing the games, resulting in a decent rate of won games being finished, and not hundreds of games in your win list that will never be touched, and only a handful of games ever played.

Requirements:

To help members keep track of their won games, as well as making it easier for group admins to check the progress in won games for those applying for the group, a BLAEO account is required. BLAEO is a great tool for tackling your backlog, it syncs the games in your Steam library and Steamgifts wins, and lets you mark your progress in the games and create lists (to-play lists as well as lists of finished games) with an easy drag and drop interface.

If you're already an active BLAEO member that's great, if not, you would need to sign up, categorize your games and make a list containing at least one of your games won on Steamgifts (a getting-started guide is available here) before applying.

The suggestion is that those of you who are new to BLAEO do a "games to play soon" / "attack plan" list, containing a few games you want / plan to play. One of them has to be a game won on Steamgifts (if you haven't already finished all won games). This is mainly to let new users to BLAEO try out the site functions to make sure you know what it's about, and there is no requirement to play the games on that list in that order (or to stick to the list at all), but it can be a very handy tool that some of you might end up using a lot, and if not - it's nice to have tried at least once.

When it comes to finished games, we would like to see a minimum of 25% of your won games on Steamgifts finished. This will be evaluated on an individual level, and 25% isn't an exact amount, it also comes down to amount of games won, and the games played. For users with few wins, 25% could be as little 1-2 games, and that would not be enough, so a higher rate would be needed for users with few wins. At the same time, someone who has won 20 games and only played/finished their five shortest won games and left all the longer ones unplayed might not be a good match for the group before finishing more games.

If you would like to check your stats a bit without registering to BLAEO, this script can check your progress (hours played and achievements gained) in games won on Steamgifts, so you can get an idea about how many games you have played.

The minimum Steamgifts contributor level for applying is 4, and we would like to see a positive Real CV ratio.

Group rules:

We have a few rules in the group, everything is explained in more detail in the group forum, but should be mentioned here as well, so anyone thinking of applying can consider if they would be ok with the rules.

In short, the rules are:

  1. Read the giveaway description before entering a group giveaway, and respect any wishes of the giveaway creator.
  2. Leave a comment when entering a group giveaway.
  3. Make sure to play games won from the group, either within any timeframe the giveaway creator wished for, or the group standard timeframe (3/6/12 months depending on the game).
  4. Leave a new comment in the giveaway after finishing a game.

This of course also means that users should only enter giveaways for games they would play.

There are no rules about mandatory giveaways or in-group ratio (the time each user has to play their won games being the only "ratio").

We have a pretty nice thing going in the group, with each giveaway most of the time getting several more comments than entries (members who don't enter a giveaway might stop by to "chat", often owners of a game chime in to give recommendations). Also, so far we have had very good results when it comes to playing won games - with lots of newer / highly wishlisted games being played and finished shortly after the giveaways end.

Guest gifters:

We have had some inquires about guest gifting, users who would like to do giveaways for the group, without meeting the membership requirements themselves. This is of course welcome, and the recommended method would be to do an invite-only giveaway, which one of the moderators could post in the group-only discussion. None of the current members would be likely to leak an invite giveaway, but it could be good to write in the giveaway description that the giveaway is only shared with the group members (and link to the member list).

Another positive thing with an invite-only giveaway is that the giveaway creator can invite others than just the group members, which in some cases might be needed to get to 5 entries. Be sure to mention which users are invited in the giveaway description.

Checklist for applying:

  1. BLAEO Account
  2. Have categorized all games on BLAEO and made a list / "attack plan" containing at least one game won on Steamgifts (only needed for new BLAEO members)
  3. Minimum of 25% won games finished
  4. Steamgifts Level 4+
  5. Real CV Ratio: 1:1 or better (same or higher amount sent compared to won)
  6. Agree to the group rules

To make it easier for the group admins checking the applications, please use this template to apply (edit with your details):

[BLAEO profile](http://backlog-deepness.rhcloud.com/users/tso184)
[BLAEO list/attack plan](http://backlog-deepness.rhcloud.com/lists/xlm7g7l)
[Real CV Sent](http://www.sgtools.info/sent/tso184/newestfirst): 4085.93
[Real CV Won](http://www.sgtools.info/won/tso184/newestfirst): 1787.05
Real CV Ratio: 2.29 (sent/won: 4085.93/1787.05=2.29 in my case, you don't need to add the info inside this parenthesis)

If you haven't had time to play as many of your won games as you would like, don't worry! Spend some quality time with those games, get your numbers up and come back later. The group will keep taking in new members.

A note (2017-01-12): During next week I won't be at home much, and after that I'm not back until the end of the month, and since I have quite much to do in the meanwhile, I'll probably prioritize playing some games in the spare time I have left, and might not check in here so much. These weeks the other admins in the group will handle any invites and questions. The group recruitment is still open. If you apply for the group and haven't gotten any reply for a while, you can reply to this comment.

Hey cbones,

As sappy wrote, it's looking pretty good! Just a bit curious about the (compared to the BLAEO average) high "won't play" ratio. Maybe you're using that category differently than some of us, or does it have something to do with Linux?

I also just wanted to make sure that you're aware that we expect winners of giveaways in the group to play the games they win from the group, and play as in "play the full game", not just try it. Please note: I'm not complaining about your stats, we don't require anyone to finish all their previous won games before applying, and as I said initially, it's looking good! Just wanted to make sure you're aware of the "play what you win" expectation and I was a bit curious about the "won't play" rate :)

Hi tso184 (and sappyMA), thanks for looking into this.

I think "won't play" is indirectly effected by me using linux exclusively - less QC on those games results in some that simply won't launch (Jerry McPartlin - Rebel with a Cause), some that do launch but are so buggy they are unplayable (Wargame: European Escalation), and others with achievements not working (Battle Group 2). I have put games like this in an additional "broken" list. I would post more details on my profile to explain if I could figure out the syntax people use to reference games (this is really bare-bones and a few guess & check tries later I still can't figure it out). We can chat or I can put something ugly up if you would like (or someone can tell me how to make it look nice :)).

Perhaps I also use "won't play" differently than others. I use it for games, like above, that I won't play (read: can't) unless they get fixed but also for games I tried and were terrible at (rflex), and games I played enough of and got frustrated/gave up/knew I wouldn't get any more achievements (or any at all) (Gryphon Knight Epic in the case of 0; Shiplord in the case of no more).

You can do it on one of your lists but it's possible to do it by using your games tab too but you need to display the list with thumbnails.

Right click and press "view page source". You can use CTRL+F to quickly find the game you're looking for. After that you need to start the code with:

<ul class='games'>

Then add the code of the thumbnail you find in page source. I'll use one of your games on "Broken" list for reference. I picked Wargame: European Escalation for this example. The code will look something like this:

<li class='game game-thumbnail game-wont-play' data-item='kry39dz'>
<div class='title'>
Wargame: European Escalation
</div>
<a href='http://store.steampowered.com/app/58610' target='_blank'>
<img alt='Wargame: European Escalation' src='http://media.steampowered.com/steamcommunity/public/images/apps/58610/a5e0edba040c31a910a12a1843f0bb9266bcae3e.jpg'>
</a>
<div class='caption'>
<p>16 minutes playtime</p>
<p>0 of 29 achievements</p>
</div>
</li>

Then at the end you finish off the code with:

</ul>

You can add multiple game thumbnails between <ul class='games'> and </ul>. You don't need to use these two codes for each game separately. This way you can place the thumbnails side by side.

So the final code should look like this:

<ul class='games'>
<li class='game game-thumbnail game-wont-play' data-item='kry39dz'>
<div class='title'>
Wargame: European Escalation
</div>
<a href='http://store.steampowered.com/app/58610' target='_blank'>
<img alt='Wargame: European Escalation' src='http://media.steampowered.com/steamcommunity/public/images/apps/58610/a5e0edba040c31a910a12a1843f0bb9266bcae3e.jpg'>
</a>
<div class='caption'>
<p>16 minutes playtime</p>
<p>0 of 29 achievements</p>
</div>
</li>
</ul>

I hope this was helpful. If I wasn't clear enough please let me know. I'd be happy to help further.

Wow, that was really much more work than we needed! Too bad you didn't like XCOM (won it myself, and enjoyed it a lot, a 9/10 game for me), but good thing that you're more picky now, that means you'll fit right in to the group ;)

Thanks for the explanation. As long as you do your research on the games you enter for in the group, that's fine. We ask users to not enter giveaways for games their systems can't run, so that would apply for games that don't run (well) on Linux too.

If you're ok with this and make sure to check the games you enter group giveaways for you would be welcome in the group! Just reply here and I'll send an invite.

I do check games more rigorously now than I did before (before I only checked if there was a linux package ... now, as an example, I haven't entered Deus Ex: Mankind Divided GAs because my system won't run it until I upgrade). I agree to the terms :)

Regarding XCOM, that is another I may go back to, but after the RNG caused me to lose most of my crew on a mission I quit and uninstalled it in a fit of rage.

...and oh - I can really recommend going back to XCOM. Perhaps on a lower difficulty setting? The higher difficulty settings (especially when combined with ironman so you can't reload saves) can be quite punishing. I played it safe on Normal with standard saving, and also enabled the save scum option, which helped me savefile-RNG cheat my way out of a sticky situation I got myself in by mistake once :D Except for then I didn't need it, and accepted when I lost some of my soldiers.

Hi, tso! I don't enter giveaways anymore but I'm sick and tired of giving away games to card farmers.
Can I get a guest gifter spot in your group? Frankly I don't care if there will be 5 entries or not as long as someone wants to play the game.

Hi Quisty, I hope you don't mind, that I answer here quickly instead of tso.

Sadly, we do no longer grant guest-giver spots and instead ask of people, who'd like to make a giveaway for this group, to make it an invite-only one, so that we can then share the giveaway-link with the groupmembers.

However, after a quick look on your BLAEO profile, you do seem to fullfil our minimum requirements, so I'd rather encourage you to apply for a spot as a regular groupmember. We do have already a couple of members, who expressed that they do not necessarily want to join for group-giveaways, but instead want to be part of a group, where their gifts won't go to waste. So you would be in good company.
There are also no additional requirements for members, apart from the ones mentioned in the OP, thus you are not required to be very active and can just use this group to make a giveaway for, if you like to do so.

  • BLAEO profile
  • BLAEO attack plan: i usually pick a number of games to play based around the theme on BLAEO and average completion time (1-2 long games and 3-4 short ones a month seems the norm so far)
  • Real CV Sent: 286.60
  • Real CV Won: 53.75
  • Real CV Ratio: 5.53

small disclaimer the high % of "won't play" is given by games that fall in these categories: multiplayer-only i can't delete nor beat (i counted more than 30), bundled stuff/nostalgia factor (3drealms anthology alone added 33 games), games i spent a considerable amount of time but i can't force myself to finish without hating myself.

Hi veckpreb,
I'd like to apologise for the late reply. We had to discuss some group issues first and then we were also a bit undecided about your application.
Although we sometimes make exceptions, we do generally require from appliers with only a few wins a rather high beaten-rate, and thus having beaten 3 net wins out of 6 is not enough. While we do see, that you've put a good number of hours into your wins: the games you've completed so far, were rather short ones. We would like to see at least one longer win finished, before we can issue an invite.
Please feel free to re-apply, if you still wish to be part of this group and you can finish more wins in the meantime, since your application did look promising.

Oh and since you've mentioned it, we don't look at the rest of your steam library and what you do (or better: not do) with it - it is none of our concerns. I have tons of unplayed/"will never play" games in my library myself. We really just consider the sg-wins for our application purposes.

Hi mdk25,

thanks again for your application! We went through your wins and recognized that BLAEO just shows 14 of your 17 wins. We do however have to count at least 25% of all of your wins as beaten and 4/17 would then not exceed this percentage. Furthermore we had some trouble to really count "Train Valley" as a beaten game, since it seems that you are still missing the "germany"-achievement which seems to indicate the end of the game. This means we can't count this game as beaten.
Please bear in mind, that with "only" 17 wins we often require a decent amount of those wins to be beaten, so I'd suggest to you to give it some more time and just enjoy more of your wins. If you are then still interested in joining us, I'd encourage you to apply again!

Hey sappyMA,

Sorry, I did not know not all games appear in BLAEO - I'll make sure to take note of it from now on.
Btw, "Germany" in Train Valley is a DLC. I don't own it, so that's why I didn't get any of it's achievements.
I'll keep playing my won games, will be in touch when I finish more of them.

Ah, thanks for letting me know about that achievement, we weren't a bit unsure about the game since none of us has played it so far! :)

Edit: Oops, actually one of the admins had made me aware of this previously.
When I was first looking at your application, you had also not the "Japan" achievement, yet, and I think that one is at least part of the basegame. Sorry for the confusion - the game would count as "beaten" now.

Hello~ I'd like to make a gift for the group. Who should I contact to give the invite-only link to? Is it alright if I ask the winner to post their thoughts of the game or a couple screenshots as comment in the GA after they've played the game? Also, is getting to 5 entries a problem in the group? I see some nice games in the group GA history that barely got 5 entries.

7 years ago
Permalink

Comment has been collapsed.

Hi YukinNya,

You can just add one of the admins from our group (if you can't decide on whom, just add me :>) and ask them to post your gift link in our forums. You are also allowed to ask from the winner to post screenshots or write a little "review" of the game. However it would always be the best to make clear in the description, what you expect from a potential winner, so everyone can decide if they'll be capable to do that before they enter.
Due to the nature of the group it can sadly be a bit difficult to get five entries even for pretty nice games - though, since it would be an invite-only giveaway, you can of course still share it with other people, if you don't get enough entries from our group! My personal impression is that games that have been bundled (includes HB monthly) or games that are pretty long often don't get 5 entries.

Hope this clarifies things a bit! We certainly appreciate gifts from guestgivers, so thanks for considering this!

We normally just look for some sort of "Ending achievement" or a screenshot that shows the final credits. Achieving 100% in a game is not required. Of course considering a game to beaten* can be difficult for some games, especially ones without a story or for example mp-only games.

Taking Devil Daggers as an example, a screenshot of an appliers best time could give an indication of how much time an applier actually spent inside the game and we could then discuss, if we count this as beaten. For these games it's a case to case decision.

Sort of lacking when it comes to amount of wins, mostly because I tend to only join giveaways for games I see myself playing in the near future, but at least it makes it easy maintain a 100% games finished record (for SG wins).

Hi MachinesAreHuman. Thanks for your application. We had a query about the win "Forever's End" - which you've marked completed, yet only have 33 minutes in, when the Steam store page says it has a 92 minute running time?

I think overall we'd like to see one more "big" Steam Gift win finished (a number of your beaten/completed games are quite short, such as Mountain) - I see Lost Planet 3 is on your backlog and you seem to be making good progress - once you've finished that, you'd be welcome to re-apply.

Hey. No Problem.
Lost Planet 3 (and GTA 5, the last win) is on my list for this month. Same goes for Assassin's Creed Freedom Cry.
I startet looking Forever's End on Steam but later switched to Amazon because tbh the Steam-Player is not that good to watch a movie.

Will come back when I finished Lost Planat and GTA (Singleplayer)

Hi Arthurinho. Thanks for your application. For users with less than 10 wins, we ask for a higher beaten/completed ratio than the minimum. We'd really like to see another big game - such as Killer Is Dead - to be beaten before we can seriously consider your application. On the game Sheltered, we were wondering what your reasoning was for making it beaten? Obviously it can't in itself be beaten - but we just wanted to understand your reasoning about it.

Sheltered has no story or something like that, you just improve your shelter, gather loot and water and trying not dead.I think i can make it game beaten because i spent over 15 hours in that game, but i can't say i complete this game before i don't collect all achievments.

P.S.
Sorry for mistakes, my english is suck

50 won games completed 1 of which in offline mode is a total 23%, however,
my list Developer GA's has 58 of my wins being from promotional GA's from developers/users w/ 50+ copies. Discounting those, im at 31.4%. I already follow the group rules, so there shouldn't be an issue there. If you'd rather I meet the more "pure" ratio, including those dev. GA's, I should do so soon, and I'll re-apply.

Hi DesertMouse1. Thanks for your application. I'm afraid we are sticklers for the 25% minimum (including dev GAs) and would really like to see at least that before allowing you in to Actually Playing Games. We see you're making good progress on your backlog, so once you're there, just let us know.

Hi DesertMouse1. Was wondering if you could confirm which game it was you beat/completed offline? Do you have any evidence (relevant screenshots or similar) of it being beaten?

On my won games, that would be dishonored, I do not have any screenshots or anything since i don't usually take them and the game was stored only locally on an old laptop. I've beaten that game 3 times. Twice on console, 100% one of the runs, and once on Steam, with a regular run it's marked as completed since I did a 100% run on another platform, same as knights of pen and paper

The other glitch would be the vanishing of Ethan carter, as I've completed the redux version, which was given free with the base game, and no non-graphical differences, which does not show up as my win.

I'm at 27.6% right now, and should pass the 25 handily, even without that game in particular.

Just a note, for the Vanishing of Ethan Carther on the list of wins that I finished, it has 0 playtime but I marked it finished because I played the Redux version of the same game, which came with the original version, and has the exact same gameplay/story, but different graphics.
