The Winter sale has a far better selection of potential prizes, but the chance of getting something good is really low. The Summer sale had far worse prizes overall, but at least you could choose exactly what you wanted to get. When it comes to the prizes, I prefer the Winter sale since most of the Summer prizes weren't interesting to me anyway.

However, what I don't like about the Winter sale is that you can't use your coals and keep your entries of the grand prize. During the Summer, you could cash in your tickets and they would still count as entries for the wishlist prize, but once you use a coal during Winter you lose that entry for the wishlist prize. So for that, I prefer the Summer.

Overall it's about equal, as far as I'm concerned. If the coupons weren't completely useless most of the time, Winter would get my vote easily.

In my opinion coupons are useless. Often they offer far worse deal than steam sales.

On the other hand, the potential prize pool is great. In summer sale you could choose among mediocre DLC. In winter you have random chance to win good games. I do not like either of those system, The best one would be something in between. For example, you get tickets/coal which you can exchange for DLC and also with every sale related achievement there is a chance to win a game.

I'm a winter born guy, so winter.

I like the dlc, but I have to say, the free games are amazing!

Spring

Winter cause crafting coals can get you awesome games :p

I like the concept of coal but the worthless coupons are awful.

A Mix of both would be cool.
Getting Coal for doing stuff and then choose to craft it for a random (but at least somewhat useful) thing OR pick from a prizepool.
That way Coal would have a fixed value depending on what you'd have to 'pay' for the items there.

Winter!! free game ftw

I prefer Winter (hey, free games will always > minor DLCs) but I really wish the coupons were better. They could be redeemable during this sale, at least...or you could pick from, say, 3 or 5 random coupons instead of just getting one random one.

A combination of both would be perfect: earn ticket and than selected a reward including dlc, coupons and full games ( of course games will need more ticket but is better than luck based )
