Easy. Name 1, pick 1 and watch it. Can be a classic, and indie movie, a short film or your favorite movie.

I really think that everyone should watch Fight Club. A life-changing film.

Now its YOUR turn.

Funny story about this movie.
I went to see this in theatres when it was released with friend of mine, half of the audience walked out during it.
I went again with another friend to see it, same thing happened. Slowly but surely, people just kept leaving mid-showing.

I'm a huge movie afficiando but I have NEVER witnessed same kind of behaviour on any movie ever. Occasional couple people leaving sometimes, but seriously 30 to 50% of audience leaving during the movie is just.. WOW!

I think no one told Forrest Gump, cause everyone know this. But let it go, it (like Green Mile) always make me cry, and happy and I always enjoy both films as if I watch it first time. Both are with my favourtie actor Tom Hanks also.

Hmm, I watched Fight Club but when I was like 4, so I don't remember anything about it, I'll try to watch it asap :)

I found Ex Machina too shallow... But maybe it's because last year I got Zero Theorem from Gilliam :>

Permalink

Shallow how?

Permalink

Comment has been collapsed.

shallow in the way it portraied AI. I may be biased - I read a lot of not only fantasy novels, but sci-fi ones as well, so I encounter AI in my reading fiction a lot. And this AI was just feeling plain compared to what I've read. If we're talking movies-only and human-AI relationships - I find 2013 Her much deeper and much subtle study.

Permalink

Comment has been collapsed.

I would never have called Ava a shallow character in the slightest. I found her exceptionally complex. And the portrayal of AI in general as complex too, the idea of AI, the future of AI, the challenges of AI, the morals, etc, it was all well explored for me. I haven't seen Her though. So I guess I can't really debate that with you.

Permalink

Comment has been collapsed.

If you liked portrayal of Ava - go and see Her like RIGHT NOW :D: In Her you never even see a character yet she's few times more deeper developed than Ava ;P

On the other hand, Ex Machina was much more realistic, more scientifically accurate than Her.

If someone would mix aesthetics and story from Her with Ex Machinas science, we would get the ultimate AI film.

HER has been on my watchlist for awhile,I really need to finally sit down and click "play".

Permalink

Comment has been collapsed.

I thought Ex Machina was terrific but not because of AI. It didn't feel to me like the AI or the human-AI relationship was the point of the movie. The AI was used to affect the relationship between the two humans. I thought the movie was very good as a psychological thriller, not as a sci-fi drama.

Matrix, coz theres hidden thruts out there, ready to be found, if you take the red pill

"You take the blue pill, the story ends. You wake up in your bed and believe whatever you want to believe. You take the red pill, you stay in wonderland, and I show you how deep the rabbit hole goes." The term redpill refers to a human that is aware of the true nature of the Matrix."

I really loved Matrix, don't get me wrong. It was my fav movie as a teenager, and it would remain so - if not for all the sequels. Because all the sequels did was to overthrow all the deep theories people came up with with the first movie and turn them into another mindless action movie.

I will still hold Matrix deep in my heart, as it was a movie, that taught me understand spoken english :D: When it came out - there was barely any serious internet in my caountry and surely no sub-groups - so I ended watchin it over and over again (my uncle from capital coty who had good internet connection DLed it) as a young teenager without any subs and ended up learning a lot from it :D:

Bah. Better read the graphic novel instead.
The movie screws over characterizations in so many ways it's not funny.

That, and the book version does more to push the boundaries of it's medium, with it's interludes and all - one of the things that make it great instead of just good.

But in all honesty, it's a lot like Magnolia by Paul Thomas Anderson to me. Some things in life are sometimes more than just chance, and although they can seem absurd and bizarre they are all linked together no matter how crazy that may seem. Don't just look at it for the one liners or the pot smoking that a lot of people seem to like it for, actually read into the subtle nuiances of the characters - Walter who is a know it all yet is always right (literally, he is spot on with everything in the movie) to Donnie and his pacifism/fear being what keeps him alive yet ends up being his greatest enemy (The only time he doesn't throw a strike and feels a little off, even though if you watch they never throw a ball they only imply they are bowling...which is a whole different story). Without spoiling far too much of the film and actually breaking it down here I can't say much more but I do love this film, not as my drop dead greatest film of all time but it is an absolute top 10 for me.

And all The Dude wanted was his rug back...it really tied the room together.
