The mod has now been officially released, after an unfortunate leak dashed the creators chances of having their work become an official paid-for expansion to the series. Now, it's instead a great, free excuse to dig the oldest Stalker out from its bunker.

I'd tag it as [MOD][FREE] at the start of the title so people don't get excited that the game is free.
My title suggestion: [MOD][FREE] Stalker: Shadow Of Chernobyl - Lost Alpha (Developers Cut ) Released

Do the STALKER devs license out third party expansions? otherwise, I don't see them being able to charge for it.

It was originally going to be an official release - before a massive leak of in development work some years back. Dez0wave created a custom version of the xray engine the series runs on and have good relations with GSC. it os, however a fully standalone game released with GSC's permission. The plot is not that of Shadow of Chernobyl either, but follows the story of the marked one PRIOR to SoC. For this and many other reasons, to anybody thinking of playing, you really NEED to have played all three of the official releases to really enjoy this - AND NOT SPOIL THEM. its really only intended for veteran players.

To the OP, this is the developers cut and has been available for some time now.

Some time ago I've downloaded and tried Lost Alpha, and the enormous scenarios without anything interesting are very annoying, forcing to the player to use the crappy cars. You waste more time in reach to place where the objetive is, than in complete that objetive...

What adds this "Developer's Cut" to the original mod? (If I can ask).

Not really. The release, yes, not the Developer's Cut, which has been available for 3 months.
