You are lovely and just saved me 15 minutes of running around for these app IDs. Thank you!

Or you could just use SteamDB Free Packages?

They went through the trouble of finding all the corrects IDs and formatting it in a single line command - can't I thank them for that?

Ye that's lovely of them, I just mentioned a more convenient way that I use personally instead of spending 15 minutes running around for app ID's as you mentioned

Oh, that's the process I would usually (have to) do as well - the 15 minutes thing is a bit of an exaggeration. :P
Being able to just visit SG, click the thread and immediately find a user who has done the legwork is always so much easier.

and why couldn't you just open steam and manually add each of the free DLCs in like less than 5 mins?

Permalink

Comment has been collapsed.

That is a pain if you want to add the DLC to your bot accounts. ASF is the way to go.

Multiple reasons:

  1. Much, much faster to just copy and paste a single command
  2. Adds the licenses to multiple accounts (I have my alt, brother, sister and mother's account in my ASF so they can build up a library effortlessly due to me adding freebies through ASF)
  3. Lastly and most importantly, I like to provide the ASF command when I post announcements to my community

+1, it's so much faster particularly if you consider that if OP (or a commenter) takes the time to do that once, it saves tons of people the time to do it... all in all, it's hours or maybe even a few days of free time saved for all, if someone posts this.

Can you set this up with ASF?

Permalink

Comment has been collapsed.

No you need Steam DB extension and from here https://steamdb.info/freepackages/ you can see all free packages that can be added to your account, limited to 50 packages per hour tho you can leave the page open and it will automatically add 50 packages every hour

A small warning tough: Think about what it will add, if you want it, etc. cause I started it and kind of forgot that is was still open in a background tab and it added like 8000 things to my library and in restrospect that made my library even more unwieldy :P

Comment has been collapsed.

Yes it's not for everyone, for me I just prefer to let it add all the random free shit that can be added but if you only need specific stuff and you don't want your library to be flooded then ASF is your best tool

The only DLCs I see there are ARK: Survival Evolved Original Soundtrack and Steam Dev Days: UGC and Workshop in ARK: Survival Evolved. Where do you find the other ones?

Permalink

SteamDB has literally all the free packages on steam, I added these when I got the game ages ago so I can't check it now but I added them all from there

yeah, well, no, ASF is more efficient on this

Permalink

If you prefer to add specific things by finding app id's then typing a command instead of clicking a button then sure It's more reliable

The trick is that it is ARK. unless you are incredibly into getting curbstomped at spawn (IN SP) you will undoubtedly ragequit many times.

It is a beautiful but maddening game.

The advantage of having the Steam version is that you can use mods and join modded servers, probably also the free DLC maps.
The Epic version is effectively dead now.

maybe they didn't included the HD textures
Edit: while inspecting the depots i saw that linux variants are missing some files
Example: for Lost Island - ARK Expansion Map the linux depot is missing a hole folder: SeekFreeContent, sooo... no HD DLC for you?
and some content is missing from other DLC's
HazardSuit is missing from mac/linux depot

It still doesn't make sense to have these HD Textures for about 210 GB more space!

add about 100GB for genesis, and then quite a bit for any mods. It is shocking really

Is this game any fun when playing on your own?

Also, thanks for the heads-up, OP

I played it solo for a while, and I enjoyed it alot (I still do time by time).
But I think you need to change few settings to make the game easier in solo sessions, it can be really unforgiving sometimes...

Pretty cool! I don't imagine I'll be playing it or even downloading it for a long time (that download size is pretty terrifying), but it's a nice title to add to my library.

That's awesome.

It would be even more awesome if it wasn't some 125GB, if it didn't take a week to download it and my computer could actually run it.

If calculated with the DLC map the total is 328GB xD
