Some time ago I've got access to a fairly good laptop and installed Steam yet again.
My Steam account is 13 years old so I accumulated a number of games over that period (700+ games to be exact).
Some of those are hot garbage bought in a time of a Steam Cards craze. But mostly there are games that I actually wanted to play.
So now I'm slowly (very VERY slowly) moving down the list of games I've bought. Playing trough the story if the game has no achievements and trying to het 100% if they do.
And yet, I'm constantly adding games to my wishlist and buying them when there's sale going on.
What about you?

I try to play backlog games but most of the time i end up playing counter strike games because it takes less time and its more fun with friends around the world. I got like 300+ backlogs thats why i rarely buy games now xddd

Big oof. I've got almost 1k hours in CS:GO, but I dropped it a long time ago. Nowadays I don't play anything competitive, it's not good for my mental health. But if you are having fun with a bunch of friends, that's really awesome. :)

Yes. Luckily, i never entered games that i dont want to play since i joined sg for the first time. I might get some bad games that looks great but doesnt end up as i expected, but i assumed it as my fault for entering and kept on finishing it. I want to at least respect the gifter to purchase and give the game away.

As for the games i bought, i'm whittling through it as well. Still gonna aim for my steam backlog completion, albeit slowly.

That's very noble of you.
I learned, that before buying the game, I really have to read through reviews.
Got burned by buying the game called "Narcos" (based on a Netflix show, based on real events), I wish I've checked beforehand.

Sometimes they are just too eye-catching to have...
Though, I try to play my good games slowly.

My achievement hunting is a remnant of the times when I was a PlayStation player and a trophy hunter. Not anymore tho.
Still trying too hunt 100% but not super crazy like before.

All the games I have are there with the intent to be played, eventually. I have a handful that were sort of "accidental" acquisitions to my library but I ended up playing them as well just because... well, because they're in my library.

I plan and I WILL play all my wins (and try 100%), but my gaming time is lower than before because "live matters"
Only wined games I don`t play are:

  • something not right with game (game killing bug, spyware, cryptominer)
  • game is unavailable (dev or Steam)

I'm kinda trying to play them, at least in a recent year 🤔 I had 55% of my library untouched (141/255) on May 2022 and now "only" 32% of it remains untouched (127/397). But it is so easy to get new games and there is so little free time, whole this "beat my backlog" thing feels like a useless Idea 😬 I'm at least trying to play the freshly obtained games but I already have games that requires years to play... and I can't stay off buying/winning new ones 🤤

Depending on how vast your library has become, it's not a bad idea to sort of draw a line in the sand and start over from a certain date selected by you. Anything in your library before that date is considered only if you really really want to play it.

Personally, I don't buy anything these days that I don't expect to play, but I did accumulate thousands of games while working as an editor in games journalism, a fair chunk of wins from my orevious SG account, and many more from mindlessly redeeming bundle keys that I'll never get around to playing. At one point, I went through and hid about 90% of my library. That was my start over point.

I'm far less concerned with forcing myself to finish games I don't enjoy, but I try to play everything I buy or am given (or win) these days.

There is some absolute trash on my Steam account that I will never play. But, the majority of my SG wins were stuff I wanted to try out and play, so I hope to get around to them all.

On saying that, there is also a bunch of trash on my account that I'll never play. I let a relative activate a few 100 random keys on my account one time. Some were good games, others were trash. So that's where the majority of trash games I own came from. At the time, my account was small, and I didn't care. Haha!

I'm more picky now about what I activate. And I only buy individual games if I REALLY want to play them.

Been trying to play not just Steam games I have on my account, but also stuff I bought elsewhere. It's a might task, but hopefully slowly but surely, I'm doing it.

The real problem are limited deals, they incite us to buy a game now, even if we didn't plan on playing it yet. Since if we don't, we might lose an opportunity to get them cheap, or even own them at all. The backlog problem began with bundles, because those came with a game you wanted, and a few you weren't really sure, so, we end up redeeming some of those we aren't sure, and we keep buying bundles for the games we do want. Exponentially growing libraries to a point they become un-manageable.

On SteamGifts, I only enter for games I really, really want, and a few I didn't even know but looked interesting. for games I won, I try to play them all, but, not always have the time to do so.

Finally, and unironically, I found console games to be more manageable, since there's no second hand market where I live, they are usually pretty expensive, that makes me think carefully about what games do I really want to buy. And since I buy less, I have less of a backlog, and have played most of the ones I did buy...

I also try to get as many of those on Steam, because I know my consoles might break, and their digital services might end at some point, meanwhile, Steam feels almost eternal by comparison.

My intention is to play them, but realistically speaking I'll probably die of old age before I'm done with my backlog. The fact that sometimes I lose all momentum and stop playing games altogether for two or three weeks at a time doesn't help much, that's why I try to get through as many games as possible whenever I'm still in the mood, this year I made quite a bit of progress despite all... but I'm petty sure I acquired more games than I played. It's really hard to dislodge myself from that squirrel like mentality of hoarding games for "the winter" when I'll be unable to buy them for whatever reason.

I certainly try but it's becoming much harder to get around to things in a timely manner. I've got a backlog on PC but I also have a number of consoles that have games waiting to be played too. Most recent example is I bought Monster Hunter World to play with a few friends. For the last week I get through a mission or two and then fall asleep at my desk. Or sometimes I have something pop up and will leave the game running, only to come back hours later to realize it's already time for bed, or I need to do something "quick" for work, etc.

It also depends on how much I'm enjoying a game too though. I used to try and "get the most value" out of my purchases but with the state of games these days and depending on the target audience I will drop a game, or refund in some cases, if I'm not enjoying my time with it or it's such a hassle to run without hours of troubleshooting because of rushed development, etc.

Of course I'm going to play.♪ ((o'Θ'o)) ♪🎮🕹💻📺
As long as I'm not busy being harassed by human vehicles or when humanity is not at peace.
(I was presented to humanity a car accident. It is difficult because there seems to be an organization to catch aliens.🚨🛸👽🚨)
But I'd like a little more time to get it together. I would also like a good computer, preferably for human use.

I’ve never entered a GA for a game I didn’t intend to play, but my backlog keeps growing and growing, so there are games that I’ve had for 5, even 10 years before I really play them

I'm working on it but at this rate I think it's almost impossible to finish all of the games sitting in my library since I get hooked on a new game everytime, and I would spend weeks playing that one game.

Short answer:

Do I play all - No.
Would like to play them all - Yes!
Will I play them all - No.

Bit longer:
Right now I play more titles that I used to play ever. Less than 2 years ago I was more into competetive gaming, picking titles that require lot of time investment - FIFA, Smite, Rocket League etc. but realised I was treating those rather like 2nd work and daily routine instead of enjoyment. Gradually I stopped playing them all and started to pick games on a whim - sometime shorter sessions, some games dropped after testing them out, some completed. This is also time when I returned to SG as my interest for smaller games returned. Soon I joined community activities which makes picking games easier as there are around some themes: Pagywosg helped me to pick already 83 games in last 10 months. Another activity is Monthly in a Month focused on games featuring in Monthly/Choice games which participated 3 or 4 times. Most recent I joined is Play or Pay where users suggested 7 games to play, definately going to try them all. All of the above helped me to reduce huge backlog gathered over the years. So far proportions were for each 3-4 games added to account I played 1. Past few months I complete more than added to account. With that I reached 2 milestones: 'Untouched' games on steam dropped below 1000. Unplayed SG win ratio dropped below 75% (used to be 95% 😅). Backlog is still massive, but I know one fact that I need to accept - I'm not going to play them all. Instead - what I'm doing changing my approach. When there is bunfle with game I would like to play instead of buying it instantly and claiming other 6 games to account, I reconsider buying. If there is only one game from that, which bought separetely will have similar price and potentially discounted further in the future I will pass. 2 or more games - probably buy it and instead of instantly adding other keys to account will check each game if suits me - if not GA it. Buying game on promotions - only if going to play them within near future - such recent purchases were RDR2, Vampire Survivors, Hades - all played. Still there are ton of games which have on my account which even at current state would be enough for many years, but still there are new games that will play as well. In summary - I will keep reducing my backlog which at some point will stabilize, but at least my wallet will be happier ;)
