I read(skimmed) the faq's and rules, but I couldn't find out what the benefits are for gifters. I think that they get contributor points, but is that all? What else do they get if anything? thanks.

You can enter contributor-only giveaways, and more people will like you. If people like you, you're a member of the community.

How do you feel when you give someone a gift that makes them happy? It's the same thing.

A warm feeling.

The love of the community.

The chance to enter exclusive giveaways.

Get rid of keys you don't want from bundles.

Some people are just... genuinely generous and want to give. They like doing it. Bless them for that.

Well from the average of 1 comment to 10 entries for giveaways I have to say I'm not seeing a lot of community love.

What, because he doesn't spam "thx lol" on every giveaway, he's not contributing to the community? How do you know how active he is in the chats? How can you recklessly assume things like this?

How can you recklessly assume that I'm accusing bobofatt of anything when I'm making a general observation of how many comments are left on giveaways.
Take your own advice or better yet read someone's post before going on an uneducated tangent, you're making a fool of yourself.

You literally said "I'm not seeing a lot of community love," how can that be interpreted in more ways than one?

Permalink

Comment has been collapsed.

It was fully in the context of the observation.
To break it down: With the evidence I gathered from the observation I'm not observing much in the way of positive feedback from the community.

It was also completely irrelevant to the point you were trying to raise.

I try to be an active member at home. Most of the time I'm entering from work using the Android app and can't really comment on things.

So you're calling someone like me a spammer? Stop coming up with excuses to justify a poor comment to entry ratio. In simple terms, it means you enjoy entering giveaways more than participating in the forums or even bothering to type something as simple as "Thanks".

To be honest, the people who act all high and mighty about their 1:1 ratio annoy the hell out of me, cause a large majority of those posts are just generic "thanks" comments. When I first started I replied every giveaway I entered with various "Thanks" and after a while, I just stopped because I realized that it was just out of habit rather than actual gratefulness. Nowadays I'll only really post a comment if I have something to say, or if the giveaway is for something expensive and I'll express gratitude at the fact.

Now, don't get me wrong, I don't have anything against gratefulness, but personally, I'd much rather one of my giveaways have 10 conversational comments than 500 variations of "Thanks". Thank me if you win the giveaway, but please, say more when you're just entering.

What I mean by community love, is the being invited to special groups, feeling like a welcomed member in the chat, etc.

The site will always be a majority of leechers that don't say anything.

I knew that's what you meant but I also decided it would be a good chance to raise a point. It saddens me that the majority of the community generate so much negativity.

The community involves publicly giving away free gifts. There will always be more bad people than good people here because of that simple statement alone :(

Warm Fuzzies!!

General rule of thumb, if you have to look for a reason to give, don't bother giving.

I give because I feel bad for winning.

This site isn't named Steam trades or exchange but Steamgifts for a reason :).

I believe there were times on this site when nice people gave away extra copies they somehow got to people here just to make someone happy, not get any profit. Once contribution system came, people (at least some of users) started giving away things just to get the contributor value (= more giveaways to enter/bigger e-peen, whatever). This made the bundle games flood the site. I am telling it to you to make you know that there are still tons of great, generous people here who don't care about if they get something back.

There's this concept called generosity. You may have heard of it.

Because gifting apparently sets off a rewarding response in some people's brains. Try it, it might work for you too.

Ok, I just wanted to know if there were any benefits. I can understand being generous, but to me it seems weird since you don't know the person and probably won't end up knowing them. It just seems weird because it seems some people buy games just to gift them. I wouldn't think many people would want to buy (even though cheap) something to give to a stranger, or at least not much.

Anyways, I guess I was completely wrong, I guess there are some good people left.
