Yep, It's true, as much as I heard they'll come up with a monster :D Anyway, I'm pretty sure it would be best to just buy a Radeon Video card (like Radeon HD 7870, which is really cheap), but that's just my opinion :D

7870 runs really well and is indeed a cheap card. Got one currently, can't wait for next gen. :D

The 700 series is going be released soon. If you want a cheaper price, the 680's price might drop a little upon release of the 700s, but don't get your hopes too high. If you want more performance, then you could look at how the 700s perform in terms of price/performance. As always, the longer you wait, the better price and performance you'll get, so it depends if you can wait that long. Also, the AMD 8000 series is coming out soon as well, so it'll be interesting to see how the two fare.

Tell me the resolution that you'll be playing at, also your processor would be nice to know too.

Yeah the 680 will do you fine for a long time. If you can wait, you'll probably be able to get something more expensive than the cheapest 680, but still within your $530 price budget, which would be better than the 680. If you want it now, get the 680, it'll last a long time. If you don't mind waiting, then wait and see what the 700 Nvidias and the 8000/9000 AMDs produce.

buying a nVIDIA GeForce GTX 680 to game at a resolution of 1366 x 768 is overkill and a waste of money. if buying a top tier nVIDIA or AMD graphics card you should buy a new Dell IPS monitor with a resolution of 2560 x 1600 or at least 1920 x 1080.

But his budget would allow him to either get a new monitor and a cheaper graphics card which would not be able to play the latest games at highest settings on the new resolution like he wants it to, or keep the monitor and get a more expensive gpu which lets him play the latest games on highest settings, and possibly leave room for a new monitor in the future.

you can fit a decent graphics card that runs all the latest games maxed and a 1080p monitor on that budget.

the nVIDIA GeForce GTX 670 performs close to the nVIDIA GeForce GTX 680 but cost a lot less. the remaining money can be used to purchase a Dell IPS monitor at a resolution of 1920 x 1080 or 1920 x 1200

A 7970 performs similarly to the 680 and is a fair bit cheaper. Pair that with a new screen and it should fit in the budget with pretty much the same performance.

personally i'm trying to wait for the new series, Amd left me in a cold dark place named legacy drivers so i kind of want to get a card that has the longest possible support

i'm exaggerating tough it's not that big of a deal, but still want to wait for new series, i waited this long after all

I think I've seen amd's twitter said that there's no new series of cards this year. So does the Nvidia

It's coming out later this year or early 2014. Positive it's Q3.

the 680 price might drop a little, so, actually, not a bad idea. But if you have the money, go 700

GTX 770 will be a GTX 680. The 770 will be priced at $400 so I would wait a few weeks, the gtx 770 is rumored to launch May 30th. If you want a big improvement then you might want the gtx 780. The 780 looks like a crippled Titan. Although the gtx 780 looks a bit weak compared to the rumored AMD 9970 which is suppose to launch later this year.

Im still generally pretty good with my gtx460 i got a while ago. I get sticker shock on the new high end stuff, and I dont know if I'd get enough out of it to make it worth doing.

the 700's wont be releasing until q1 next year so you will be waiting around a year, it is better to just get a gtx 680 or radeon 7970 now and go from there, you won't need more power than a 680 for a while and even if you do you are better off getting a titan which would have dropped in price and would most probably still be stronger than the 700 series(except for the 790 but I doubt that would release until q3). So basically I do not see any reason to wait but that is my opinion.

Yes it is true and buying the GTX 680 now is definitely not a good idea. I hope that answers your question :)

nVIDIA and AMD should lower the price of their top tier graphics cards to under 200 USD like they did with the nVIDIA GeForce 9800 GT

The GTX680 is an awesome card anyways and will be able to play all the latest games coupled with a good pc for years to come. Maybe get it in a price drop, I got mine cheap and have never looked back :)

It depends, what are you running right now? If waiting for the GTX 700 series is delaying you building an entire new computer, you should just buy the GTX 680, but if you already have a PC with a decent graphics card, maybe you should wait it out.

GTX680 to GTX780 wont be that big of a performance jump so you wont be missing out on a lot if you buy the video card now.
