I'm having a really hard time with trades through steamgifts - it's difficult sifting through the trades that people have bumped from a year ago or more to find new trades. When I finally do find one, it takes considerable effort trying to come to some sort of agreement and it often ends up going nowhere.

Why can't we just create a trade (Offer), drop our key/link in it (hidden)/just the name of the game if it's a gift, people can submit offers with their key/link/offer of a game. We can either then accept or reject and the keys are automatically swapped or details of the user are shown so you can trade through steam. Also it would be much easier to search through.

Seems like a wasted opportunity when the underlying system already exists for giveaways

I think Indiegala implemented a system of that sort, maybe check that out?

I think it's because a lot of trades are done through some form of currency (keys, generally), and because having an automated system in place would make it easier to just mass-scam.

Some other sites like Indiegala or Groupees implemented a system that can guarantee that the key has not been revealed, but that wouldn't be possible here as SG is a third party that doesn't sell games.

Be ready that people there too have sometimes interesting ideas on good barters. I think my favourite one was Divinity: Dragon Commander before it was bundled for some 5-dollar bundle game from a 1-dollar bundle, and the guy really didn't understand why did I say it's not equitable.

How would the system verify these keys?

You could end up receiving 12345-12345-12345 for your legit key.

In the same way that it's done for giveaways I guess - nothing to stop someone from doing that there but the system seems to work?

There is nothing to gain for creating fake giveaways. Where as, there are lots of games to scam if you create multiple fake trade links.

Bad idea. trader usually advertise on more then one site on the same time. that would make them a lot of work. Beside what Peroxide wrote.
