Transformers have more in common with samurai lore than this dumbed down garbage

If you want more real and more Japanese touch, just go with Akira Kurosawa ... These Hollywood movies are good on their own, but their point of view is different, a side one, not directly involved. Start with the necessary classics Seven Samurai, Yojimbo, Ran and if you like it, just watch his whole filmography. You won't regret it.

Ran. incredible flick. and anything by Kurosawa of course.
Also, even though its R Chamberlain, the Shogun miniseries is quite good, in fact you dont see that kind of on location quality anymore at all.
umm i know more but they arent coming to mind

Yes he does :D
If you're not allergic to books, I recommend the whole series about Myamoto Musashi by Eiji Yoshikawa. This one especially

If you are allergic to books, you can watch the Samurai Trilogy on video.

THIS search for Akira Kurosawa starting with Rashômon, Ran, Shichinin no samurai - seven samurai, Yôjinbô etc. these are really good movies - in top 500 of the world

Some of Kurosawa's films aren't as well-known, but anything by him is great. See if you can find Hidden Fortress.

Kwaidan by Masahiro Kobayashi and Kuroneko by Kaneto Shindo

You apparently cannot recognize the obvious tongue-in-cheek quality of my statement, given its ridiculousness.
It was meant to poke fun at the ridiculous (and yet unfortunately serious) thread title.
I have watched most of the films mentioned in this thread, including all of the works of Akira Kurosawa, and I am also aware that some of the suggestions really are far too stylized to be considered accurate depictions of the historical time period in Japan under consideration.

Yes sorry for my lack of recognizing an "obvious" tongue-in-cheek quality of a statement over the internet, because I am an idiot whom can not read that much into text. (Because text obviously has such qualities as telling if a person is sincere or not.)

Lots of titles are already floating around, so I won't add to that. If you have Netflix, check their "Foreign Films" section. They have a bunch of them. I suppose you could just do a search for "Samurai," also.

I recomend u Fuurin Kazan, its a taiga dorama wich is base on the life of Yamamoto Kansuke. Furrin kazan deals with the sengoku jidai period, u can see the faction and battles.. A very nice serie, and, in the end of the episode they show to us places/region of the actual Japan with a little documentary of monuments, temples and other stuff about yamamoto kansuke and other things...
