The winners:

First place: chuckie001 (chose IL-2 Sturmovic: 1946)

Runner-up: twinchenzo

Odds of winning were 1 in 15.

Special mentions:

Koto - Am I right in saying it sounds like you had a Minecraft influence? You came very close to the top though, as it was very fitting, but I got more attached to twinchenzo's, I'm afraid, as his description of the mood cinched my vote in his direction.

ET3D - For being topical, being well-written and making me laugh

Reelix - For making me laugh loudly

The pretty awful wiki

Putting them on the wiki bit by bit. I'll post the wiki tomorrow (and maybe request help on how to make it not suck).

Two of them were music, one was a Photoshop, two were renders and one was cooking.

And I'll just thank thejadefalcon once more - thank you, dude. I wish there were more contests like this.

Yup, it's a great idea. :-) I can't wait to see or hear the entries, and I hope the next round is even more popular. :-) (I said it in the chat, and I'll say it again: Thank you!)

Hmm, some interesting stuff there. A nice range of creative expression.

Out of curiousity, do you all agree with my choice of winners?

I haven't read through all the stories, but looking at the winning entry, the choice seems reasonable to me. The runner up was also pretty good, but then I think I'm likely to be biased towards anything with such nice use of bass (though I didn't really get much of a connection to the prompt word form the music alone, which Koto's entry did more faithfully I think).

I'll admit that I was very torn between them. I got a very good Minecraft digging for silver feel from Koto's and it almost won. Took repeated listens to both of them before twinchenzo pulled ahead in my opinion just before the deadline.

I got it only now - the pure irony of the fact than my entry about a runner who finished second got me a runner-up prize.

OH THE IRONY! I guess I should make something about hitting jackpot next time :)

LOL. Let's see what the next word will be and whether you can make that connection. (Next work: "Loser".)

I'm too tired right now to take a good look, but I read the start of chuckie001's piece and was impressed.

By the way, since the connection to Silver may not be clear from my story, here's a hint: a one legged pirate with a pet named Flint.

I got it (just). Almost disqualified you for not having a connection, since I'd already disqualified someone else for that and they directly mentioned silver. Made the connection on a whim though and spent a while thinking. In the end, I decided that, unlike theirs, however well written it was, Flint was the key part of the story, whereas their bracelet wasn't.

Looking back at it now, I can see how it could have ended disqualified. However the story really came out of that connection, and the hunting for treasure was supposed to play a bigger part in it.

Heh, I was going to make a song about John Silver, but then I decided to leave it for the Talk Like a Pirate Day.

The winner is undoubtable. Have just read the story - it's brilliant.

Well done, chuckie001, well done indeed.

Thank you. :-) I also liked Silver Is Good Enough -- I think it has a potential to grow into something even larger. I personally prefer more "orchestral" pieces, where I can sort of "scan" the sound for different instruments/tracks, so I could vividly imagine an alto sax, maybe an overdrive guitar joining in with some drawn-out wailing somewhere around the 0:32 or 0:40 mark. (By the way, was it a live recording, or did you use some sampling software?)

Yeah, I would love to make it into something bigger, but I didn't have anough spare time for this. So it is how it is.
I played my bass there, and my bass only. I like to do bass instrumentals from time to time, I'm a huge fan of bass-guitar at all and Billy Sheehan in particular 8) Some other instruments wouldn't spoil the composition though.
Drums are obviously sampled.

Glad I could make you laugh - It was a true story :p

ET3D: "Spade didn't give as a weapon of war, a tool to be used against our oppressors. Instead he gave us -Removed to protect future story readers-"
I read that, and was like - "No - He couldn't have....", but you did. And for that, you are awesome!
