Its some kind of "meme" (if you can even call it that) on steam gifts thats been around for a while

Unanswerable question. "Why this meme is still popular?". Because it's a meme.

Because it was around Skyrim launch date, the first there was so much hype about it that some people actually made secret giveaways of it and others just trolled, hence the joke

It's a really old inside meme from when hidden giveaways started. By hidden I mean someone would make a forum post about something random and it somehow would get you to a giveaway. People started to say "Thanks for Skyrim" to set people on wild witch hunts on all the threads.

Also the "This puzzle was hard!" Also came from that as well kinda.

Because I'm too lazy to go play TTT.
How are you?

It's Skyrim because it was a pretty(undeservedly) hyped game in recent times. It could've been many others; this is simply the one that got caught by the community. And please don't call me sweetie, I'm allergic to attention and you reek of it.

Can you find a logical reason for everything you see? Is there really something conclusive regarding why does a meme become popular? No, there isn't. Just many varied reasons that end up trending in a community until it makes it into circle popularity and potentially lands into the mainstream.

Why is it still successful? Why hasn't it died down yet?
Some people don't get that it's not funny (nor has it ever been). It's like an Steamgifts-styled arrow to the knee joke. Somehow Skyrim is likely to produce memes that are not funny at all...

You are implying there ever was an internet meme that was fun to beginn with?
I seriously doubt that. I can't recall ever encountering a single one that was funny beyond the first time it was used/encountered. Internet Memes have one thing in common: They are annoying as hell. Thats the whole point of it. Its an insider joke you just keep repeating because of the memory you have of the time you encountered it for the first time.

I suppose because Skyrim was perceived as a let down by many people and substandard and shallow. It looked promising and turned out to be a hallow husk with little content and depth to it.
Of course, i am not entirely in agreement with that, but at least thats the major complaint you hear about Skyrim and why people that dislike it, dislike it (if they liked Oblivion or Morrowwind)

New questions then: Why is it still successful? Why hasn't it died down yet?
Because people love me <3 lol jk Because "memes" never die.
Why Skyrim? Why not GTA IV Complete Edition? Because of it's origins ;) And because it's pricey still so it's a valuable game. I imagine we won't be seeing the Skyrim thing a year from now when it's worth only 15$ but I could be wrong.

The price doesn't determine the quality of a game. It does have some factors.
Expensive = Good to some people. But Skyim is still highly wanted on the wishlists, like people said.

"Why Skyrim? Why not GTA IV Complete Edition?"
I think because it started on a puzzle giveaway, where the game was not Skyrim, but the OP asked everyone who made it to say "Thanks for Skyrim." That's what I remember hearing anyway. I missed the origin of it.

meh I laugh at it. It's amusing, but than again I am easily amused.

Pretty much because Skyrim is such a pricey game that it would be very rare for it to be given away, and that when it first came out everyone and their mom knew about it.

Hey guys,
there is one thing that I simply fail to understand. People often comment "Thanks for the skyrim" or similar on totally unrelated stuff. When people post fake or duplicate codes, at least one guy will thank for Skyrim.
So, my question is: What the fuck is that Skyrim craze and can anyone of you explain it to me?
I do understand that perhaps many people think that Skyrim is a good game, but I think that it's so taken out of context.
EDIT:
I now heard that this is some kind of meme.
New questions then: Why is it still successful? Why hasn't it died down yet?
NEW NEW NEW NEW NEW QUESTION!
Why Skyrim? Why not GTA IV Complete Edition?
Seerusly, why exactly Skyrim?
