Jagged Alliance series, especially the first one. The Civilization series is another. None of the Civ games have produced the same rush I got from playing the original, although some have come close. I prefer turn based strategy because it allows me to think and min-max, probably a comfort I grew accustomed to during my competitive chess playing days. Although there have been some RTS games that I've really enjoyed as well (Warcraft series, Z, Company of Heroes, love the Total War franchise, etc).

Just to name a few. I'm no doubt forgetting some gems :3

From my early gaming days: Heroes of Might&Magic , Age of Empires 2, Warcraft 1&2,Master of Orion 1&2, Fantasy General, Lords of the Realmand this game ahead of its time.
Today it's harder to judge because I play a lot of strategy games.

Ancient by now: Kaiser, Hanse, Genghis Khan II, Dune (not the better known II)
All real favorites, strictly limited within the strategy/management genre, but I probably forgot some dear titles.
