You have got to be kidding me? Like the show or not(I personally fall into the, "better than what else is on tv" catagory) but don't go and say people who dislike it dislike talking/political drama. GoT might have people talking sure, and occasionally they talking about politics but it is the violence, the action, the cgi, the "SUPRISE!" moments and the nudity which makes up the core of the show. Just looking at the differences between the book and the show should tell you that and the book wasn't exactly a political thriller to begin with. :p

In a world with over seven billion people, is there really a need to keep asking that question?
On topic, though, of course the other characters aren't really favorable. That's the whole point. Unless you meant something else. Just because you dislike everyone else doesn't mean the characters or the show is bad. About your other remark, you do know it's based on books, right? That's the core audience. Outsiders watch for the gore, sex and drama, insiders watch for the pleasure of seeing a previously imagined world unfold before their eyes.
Completely understandable if you find you don't enjoy it, as someone who has not read the books, though. It does have some flaws, but that's simply because it's next to impossible to fit every book detail, so you need to pay insane attention if you're not a reader. But they don't care to pay much attention to those flaws, precisely because they have the core audience (readers) to fall back on.

Actually, their "core audience" are the "show-watchers" now. They started caring about us "book-readers" after Season 2. There's ALOT OF SHIT you guys have missed on. And when i say ALOT, I FUCKING MEAN ALOT! The season 4 finale would have been SO EPIC if this certain fucking character would have been added but D&D are just changing so much shit now. Book-readers will know what character i'm talking about. Hint: Stone.

Yes, I agree they stopped* caring about halfway through. But at least that's how it started. And the "show-watchers" don't care because they're already invested. So it doesn't really matter either. On the other hand, they also addded stuff that wasn't in the books. Some fans might be upset about it, but at the same time, everything goes through GRRM, so if he approved it, it should be canon, right? So it should be fine. And it was very interesting, for example, to see the Night's King. At the same time it's sad to see they left out Coldhands.
Indeed, Stoneheart would have been an amazing cliffhanger (don't worry about a spoiler, they have no idea what we're talking about), but at the same time they're running out of material for each season, because GRRM still has to release the next book, and it would be a good season starter, I guess.

Oh yeah i forgot. Most of these GoT-haters don't care about the story since they give up after some episodes. Dumb of me to not spoil Stoneheart. The problem with GoT thou atm is that they are really trying to adjust it for the show-watchers. MANY characters will get left out the next season. Quentyn and Trystane Martell might become one. Where is Arys Oakheart? WHERE THE FUCK ARE THE GREYJOYS MOTHERFUCKERS?!?!? LEAVING OUT VICTARION GREYJOY?
There's talk thou that they might make GoT-movies about Robert's Rebellion, Aegon's Conquest to fill the gap. If they do, i hope they get really good actors(which actor does not want to be in GoT thou). I can't wait for the Tower of Joy-scene!
"Arthur Dayne: And now it begins.
No. Now it ends. Ned said sadly."

You can't truly grasp the dimension and lore in the first few establishing episodes. It's a complex universe with a lot of grey characters, they try to ease you in but yeah, it might bore and confuse some people in the beggining.
Right now the show is on fire imo, it's awesome.

I started reading the series before it even got popular, followed the release of each book in the series faithfully and enjoyed it immensely. The TV show I started watching only after the end of the first season and after hearing all the reviews and I must admit even though its not my favorite compared to the books, I still enjoyed it. So essentially I liked the series in both of the available format.
As for whether its overrated? I don't think so personally. But everyone is eligible to his or her own opinion. If you don't like it, thats okay too I guess.
As for the series being made with the assumption that the viewer has some knowledge of the series, the producers actually came up with the idea for the show after they became big fans of the book and saw the huge demand for such a show among its fans. Also its kinda hard to compress such an epic and long storyline in episodic chunks for the TV production with butchering the entire plot-lines. So sometimes, certain elements get dropped out.
Cheers!

I'm not a GoT fan, i watched something like one or two episodes because my brother suggested me to try it out; however this is the definition of what the word "overrated" has become, it applies to a great amount of situations and i think even yours:
A word which recently has been used liberally as a way of discrediting something without having to give a proper justification, most often when someone finds they have a disliking for a popular phenomenon and is resentful of those who embrace it. Often used by anti-trendies.
You may say that apple is overrated because macs objectively have low specs and they are sold for a high price. For example you can't say that 4 gb of ram memory at a low frequency is good. The fact is, a show can be judged only subjectively, and that's based on our own personal enjoyment. And what you are actually meaning is: i don't like GoT, but everyone else does, so i must complain saying it's overrated.

If it wouldn't be so good then that many people wouldn't watch it. If you don't like it then don't fucking watch it.
It's like the fucking best series ever. BB was good, but overrated. GoT is just fucking pure gold. You start to like some characters and then BAM they fucking DIE. And the same shit all over again TITTAIS AND THEN BAM DEAD. DEAD. BAM DEAD.
HODOR HODOR HODOR!

Judging someone and telling them to stop for voicing their opinion and then doing the exact same thing?
I'm pretty sure that the guy didn't keep on watching it after realizing he didn't like it. He came here because he wants to talk about it, he's not bashing anybody.
No need for you to be a fucking ass about it.

... Look at Harry Potter... A terrible movie series that was labeled as "magical movie series" since the first movie, but never really showed any actual magic. I mean... It just showed some magic wards from... trees? Really? You would expect a wizard to have a damn stuff, or at least something not so stupid. And barely any magical spells. It was just about the CGI and nothing more than that. The story sucked, and when I went to watch the last movie on theaters, everyone was doing crazy about it, and after it finished I was like "WTF did I just watched?". You'd expect something actually good...

I just preffer to watch real porn, so yes, it is overrated.

A little bit maybe. Been watching it since the start and loved it but I have no problem holding it in now as I have not seen the last season at all. All incredibly popular series have been overrated just a bit at some point if you ask me.
Still no one is watching Fargo. Lets make that overrated because it deserves it.

Still haven`t bothered, not a huge "medieval" setting fan but I might give it a go at some point. Doesn't look super interesting at any rate, if the whole world wasn't so obsessed with it I likely would have never given it a second glance.

+1. So tired of these "Am i the only one..."-threads.
Examples: Am i the only one who thinks the WC is waste of cash(will show a picture of thousands Brazilians rioting then), Am i the only one who thinks LoL is overrated?
JUST FUCKING STOP!

I tried to watch episode 1 and 2 of season 1 and just stopped.
it's just so boring. None of the characters (besides peter dinklage's character) are really favorable and the dialogue is pointless.
its like they made the show start with you the viewer, supposedly having knowledge about the material
is GOT overrated?
