Only made it half way through season 1 before I stopped, the pacing is just too slow.

Nope. I never got into the books and I gave up on watching basically anything made by HBO (GoT included) because they throw so much sex into it that it becomes unwatchable. Especially if you have a family and are in a serious lack of room keys. Nope, I'm sorry. Also, I kinda prefer that childish fantasy that really takes me back to my childhood when I enjoyed LoTR, Hobbit, HP etc.

Overrated? Nah I don't think so. I haven't seen any real critics saying it's the best thing ever, and nor should they. It's a pretty solid show, interesting characters, good setting if you like fantasy, but not every episode is good. The most praise I have heard of GoT is "This is a pretty good show, you should try it"
The bottom line is, it isn't doing anything new. It's just a pretty good series, and the credit it gets is the right amount from what I have seen.

It actually took me a couple seasons to get hooked. Season 3 though, kind of fucked me in the ass a lil bit (red wedding). Season 4 well, gotta say it had the best big battle scenes since blackwater. And no, GoT isn't overrated. It's a fucking masterpiece.

Yeah, GoT is as overrated as The Walking Dead. Why do people like either? Opinions, I suppose, but the amount of 'UMG SO GUUUUUD!!!!' I hear is fucking irritating. This happens with almost anything, but GoT and The Walking Dead. More on-topic, though... GoT. I'm not going to watch it any time soon because I know that I wouldn't like it, but damn right if you say it's overrated. It feels like everyone who doesn't like it is equivalent to the minority in a situation where 99% of the population magically evolved one day but the other 1% said 'fuck it, why do I HAVE to evolve? I'm not interested in evolving at all.
And that's why the sun shines.

At first I thought GoT was boring when my brother told me about. After the first 5 episodes I kept watching because I wanted to see what happens in the next episode.
I even told my friend about it and he got hooked on Game of Thrones too.
Also. "HODOR!"

Its no more overrated than any other popular show/movie/series. Anything that's well-regarded will have detractors; sometimes simply because its popular.
Personally, I'm a huge fan of Peter Dinklage and I really appreciate a show where main characters can and will die. I get really tired of Jack Bauer having the 7 most outlandishly insane days, while never feeling like he's actually in danger.

I tried to watch episode 1 and 2 of season 1 and just stopped.
it's just so boring. None of the characters (besides peter dinklage's character) are really favorable and the dialogue is pointless.
its like they made the show start with you the viewer, supposedly having knowledge about the material
is GOT overrated?
