Hey guys, this is my first post on the good old forums, so lets have a go!

I'm a bit ashamed to say but I have only relatively recently discovered the wonderful joyous world of indie games (maybe maximum 2 years ago). Getting addicted to titles such as Hotline, FTL, Broforce and the list goes on...

Sooo, it got me thinking, with this ever changing gaming world what is your favourite and least favourite genre for indie games (if you put on why, it would be pretty cool too, its interesting to find out what you guys think)

Anyways, thanks for reading and putting out your thoughts, I hope it sparked your curiosity too! :D

indie games suck by flooding the market with mediocre crappy games to excite nostalgic neckbeards. then out of the 10,000 crap games there will be one nice one.

Obviously we need more games like CoD series, they're totally awesome and ultra best done, also they help the market. And more ultra optimized games we tend to have the latest years.

agree with mp3police, obviously there are good ones, sviat93 mentioned some in the comment below, but that's something like 5-10 out of hundreds

Of course that depends on the taste of the person but if I look at all the AAA title out their it's the same for them. I'm not interested in like 95% of the games that come out be it indie or AAA. But that's also for movies or books etc. I think that's pretty normal.

I wish Greenlight had never been made. That was working fine before that.

Minecraft, Skullgirls, Don't Starve, Risk of Rain, Super Meat Boy, The Binding of Isaac, Monaco, Chivalry Medieval Warfare, Natural Selection 2, Trine 1, Trine 2, Starbound, and tons of survival games on Steam like Rust, these are good for example.

2D platformers with slightly "floaty" yet percise controls that are difficult because of the skill required (and not difficult because they require "memorization", like I Wanna Be the Guy or Eryi's Action)

Wargames such as Histwar ( Histwar Austerlitz is on greenlight ) have a lot of indies of great quality, its a genre i like because people really put the content over the graphics, and the content is just mindblowing if you like strategy and history.

Aurora Pentarch, Dwarf Fortress, are clearly going for inner quality over graphical effects, and that's something that i value the most in games.

I don't really have a favourite genre, maybe survival/simulation?
But some of my favourite indie games are: Papers Please, The Stanley Parable, Rogue Legacy, Sanctum, Binding of Isaac, Super Meat Boy, Don't Starve, and Cook Serve Delicious!

I think the main reason I like indie games is because most of the games can be picked up pretty easily (I can still play it 3 months later rather than it normally being so story-based I have to play it in one or 2 sittings) and the fact that a lot of them constantly update their games. I like that not only do they take the time to create their own games but then keep up with them making it better and better as well as listening to community feedback. It makes me want to support/like their games more than a gaming company that already has millions I guess?

Don't know about genre, so I will say my favourite is the kind I don't know anything about. :)

Out of the pile of cheap junk I bought in the summer sale, someone suggested I try Gone Home. Didn't know what it was, but decided to try it anyway. It's great! :) Anyone else who bought this in the summer sale, go install that thing and play! :)

Roguelikes (Are mostly indie) are probably my favorites, or maybe Rogue-lites/Rogue-like-likes.
Least favorite would probably be "Twin Stick" Shooters, or maybe Scrolling Shooters/Bullet-hells.

Best: Contrast, so far. Love everything about it except for the short playtime. Worst? Hard to pick one but if it's about the one with least efforts from the dev, I'd say Inescapable.
