Give this game a thumbs down on greenlight. The dev deleted alot of bad comments about the game and even banned old users because they disagreed with him... A developer like this doesn't deserve to be on steam!

update: He banned me from writing comments on the games greenlight page.. So I'm not allowed to criticize?

I assumed it was called neo-retro rather than retro?

It's sort of like someone trying to recreate The Beatles, no matter how close they try to get to the original sound, it will never be the same. xD

Having read the thread you linked, it doesn't seems as though banning of that user was because they disagreed with him, or unwarranted, for that matter.
I think I'll upvote NEStalgia, after all.

Read what one of them said. "Was just banned from NEStalgia along with it's forums for politely asking that Rank be unbanned in game. It states 'Permanent Ban' on the forum, if you're wondering the severity of it."

Yes, and the maker of the game replied:
"Yes, let it be known that if you intentionally break the rules and then repeat the offence in the face of a warning that explicitly states "do that again and you'll be banned", that you will in fact be banned from the game."

That does not exactly sound unreasonable to me.

So it is reasonable to ban a player if you ask for another player to get unbanned?!

Yes. This is standard in a lot of MMORPGs.

It's absolutely reasonable to ban someone who is repeatedly and intentionally breaking the rules (however arbitrary those rules may be) even after they have been explicitly told they will get banned if they continue to do it.

Eh, don't really care. I've upvoted it before and won't change it because of something like this, interested in the game.

There were a lot of retro games each with a different style.

Edit: This game is good but get's boring after awhile.

The only thing that keeps me from upvoting it is the fact that it is using BYOND. That shit's laggy as fuck.

Already upvoted the game, skimmed over the thread, devoloper sounds perfectly reasonable. Relevant quote regarding some of the "criticism":

"Deki (known as Techgamer on BYOND) is a part of a small group of BYONDers that has been essentially stalking me for the better part of the last two years. From constantly antagonizing NEStalgia's development on BYOND itself, to prank phone calls, harassing my wife on Facebook, and posing as disillusioned players on website such as this in order to defame the game, BYONDers like Deki have be relentless. It’s incredibly creepy (and on some levels pretty scary), but that’s the unfortunate reality of the internet. It’s also another reason why I’m happy that NEStalgia is now completely separated from BYOND itself.

Deki doesn’t play NEStalgia. He never has. Note that he’s been in this thread making bizarre claims about me and NEStalgia since day one, yet he doesn’t even know the name of the Black Sanctum. I expect that he’ll continue to roleplay in this thread and any others posted about NEStalgia here on SA. From this point forward I’m going to ignore him, but I figured that all of you should be aware of the situation."

tl;dr: I look forward to playing this game on Steam.

Note that Silk never responded to any of that criticism, he just attacked the two complainants, and banned the rest. He's a big goddamn baby.

Just a question, but isn't down voting a game and trying to get an entire forum to, just because the developer might be acting like a baby by banning you, acting like a baby?

I never said for anyone to downvote the game, I didn't start this thread. I'm just saying that claiming that all the criticism of Silk or NEStalgia is invalid because Silk claims that someone did X is dumb. Personally I don't care if NEStalgia makes it or not, but attacking people like that in lieu of actually rebutting their arguments is not the sign of someone I'd want to buy a game from.

Here's the thing I always ask myself for every goddamn indie retro piece of shit I see:
"Why would I want to play this in stead of [game(s) it's ripping off]?"

99% of the time the answer is "I don't." Seriously, I am so fucking sick and tired of indie devs hiding behind the "retro" excuse to make up for their lack of innovation and artistic talent. Most of them don't even give a shit about color limitations and shit like that which are the reasons REAL retro games look the way they do. They pretend 8-bit is an artistic choice rather than a technical limitation, and almost every single fucking one of these indie "8-bit" digital abortions doesn't even use actual 8-bit graphics. In stead of getting the best possible result from a limited system, they're just making it easy on themselves and try to grab soe easy some faux old school cred in the process, without regard for the reality of what they claim they're doing.

Now I don't mind if some indie developer can't produce good graphics and still tries to make a good game despite that. I'm not saying every indie game needs good graphics to be a good game, and I realise that a lot of indie games don't have the budget to hire a decent artist. But for fuck's sake stop hiding behind the word "retro"! And while I'm at it, stop making "generic retro RPG with unfunny self-referential humor" and "retro platformer with a 'unique' twist I copied from an different game." The indie scene has produced some absolute gems and I'm extremely grateful for some of the talented people in that branch of the industry, but it's this horde of lazy jackasses with a completely unwarranted sense of self-importance, who can't make an original game to save their lives and try to tell people their garbage is "retro", or "old school", or "artistic", or "deep and complex", or whatever the fuck else, as if it's supposed to excuse the game for being lazy, uninspired, derivative bullshit. It really pisses me off, and Greenlight is completely overrun with this kind of trash.

/Justified and cohesive rant

I'd also like to add that sometimes indie devs use minimalistic game art to emphasize on their gameplay. Especially when the gameplay is used as a metaphor. But I do agree that nowadays it's just a lazy way to market their games.
