Good Bye Hamachi!

Starting today, Hamachi and all of Logmein softwares will cost a subscription of $100.00 USD per year. I'm sad that Hamachi won't be free to use anymore. I use Hamachi for nearly everything. Garry's Mod, Killing Floor, Minecraft, Terraria, Cry of Fear, Survivors, Slendytubbies etc.

VPN is useful for many games:

  • which support only playing on LAN,
  • when Steam/other servers are laggy,
  • when you don't want/can't to fight with port forwarding and (hardware) firewall rules for every game you play,
  • ...

Hamachi was quite bad for quite a long time, luckily there were (and are!) many alternatives, some requires less work with configuration, some other some more.

Man I loved hamachi. It was easy and never game me and my cousins any problems. Guess we'll just move to tungle or something else.

You can try Tunggle, GameRanger or Evolve.

As far as I understand, the switch is for LogMeIn (Remote Access), not Hamachi?

I used to use logmein just because it was free and I occasionally wanted to get into my home computer for work. Just got up and running with RealVNC right now and it's TONS better. Holy crap. No lag, no "painting of the screen"... amazing. Coupled with no-ip running, and I can just login to the same domain every time the cable company assigns me a new dynamic ip.

EDIT: Also signed up for Evolve, since it came so highly recommended for gaming. Raptr has turned into a blight on my system.

Never liked Hamachi, I just port forward to open a Minecraft server for example, it's difficult to find how to do it cuz everyone has different routers, but once you did is a lot more effective than using Hamachi

Thats great for you, but some things just require a service like hamachi, not just playing pirated games but older games that might say use the old IPX protocol for example.

If you have public ip it is not problem - use real ip and not have lags as hamachi.
