The Indieroyale Alpha Bundle just started.

Bought. Wish I could give more than I did (just barely above the minimum) but I can't afford to give much at the moment, and anything seems better than nothing (especially for 3079 which doesn't look like something I'll play all that much).

"omg gaem not my style, WORST BUNDLE EVER N GAEM SUK LOL"

I don't get why people are so insulting about it, if it's not your thing don't buy it. It's catered to a specific group of people. The bundle has been listed for a long time (name and icon, called the "The Alpha Fund" with a pixelated picture of it. What the fuck did you expect?)

maybe some ppl did expect more then 3 shitty games for 5 bucks? this definately is the worst indie bundle until now. I know what alpha-status means, but come on.. it's not even worth a dollar to me. just my point of view.

good that you said "just my point of view" or i would have raged :) since for other people (like me) it is pretty nice bundle since i wanted to buy 3079 a long time, and now i can buy it for a cheaper price and 2 other games included :)

Why does everyone compare a blocky type game with minecraft -_- nobody compares minecraft to sims because of the building, nobody compares BF3 to MW3 be.... nvm about last one ^^

Permalink

Comment has been collapsed.

Because they look similar.

It's why people compare the NES/SNES/GB Zelda games to (J)RPGs, even though they share pretty much only the top-down view and the colorful graphics, when the Zelda games are actually metroidvanias.

For the people asking about Steam keys, this is from Indie Royale's facebook page:

"Some notes: there are no pre-orders (or pre-order bonuses) for Alpha Collections, and they run for 7 days. There are also no Steam keys, but the developers have told us that they will provide any if the finished games ever make it onto Steam."

Essentially, don't get your hopes up but if they make it to Steam, you'll get your keys.

I figured that would be the case, but thanks for the confirmation.

Well that just made it a buy for me. I was going to ask support myself. The games look interesting enough for me to get, but I know I likely wouldn't play them unless on Steam. So the fact that, if they make it to Steam, I'll get keys for them makes the entire risk a bit more worth it.

For $3? Probably. For $5? I doubt it.

Naah. These alphas don't look that promising.

If they had something like Project Zomboid or similar in the bundle, but these games are pretty uninteresting and don't look like they could accomplish more than a beta (except maybe Wyv&Keep).

Desura really has to come back to the Humble Bundle. Not offering keys for that was a BIG mistake. IR is no competition for the HB, but with the HB and their Linux-support they would at least be able to advertise their service to a bigger audience.

Desura keys are provided for all 3 games.

Desura is not DRM. Steam is a limited form of DRM, yes, but the same can't be said of Desura. Desura itself "does not offer any digital rights management services, and Desura employees have commented against its use in the past, recommending that content producers ship without DRM or at least use a CD Key system instead".

Can you play Desura games without starting Desura?

Now I must say I'm really fed up with these bundles. It's just... boring.

(And yes, I know I don't have to "catch 'em all", no need to reminding me.)

So does anyone have any input on the alpha builds of any of the games? Curious as to how they're looking.

You can download a demo for Towns on desura. It's limited to 20 in-game days of gameplay, but it's otherwise a full game. It's also really fun and the devs have solid plans for it with plenty of additions confirmed. I haven't heard of the other 2 games until now.

I can only add input for towns and 3079, and both games have demos.

I supported 3079 before this bundle, and was planning/thinking to do the same for Towns. Towns is, so far, an enjoyable sim/rts, and the idea behind it is very appealing to me... I haven't gotten too far into the game, but from what I've read and been told about what is to come, it seems really interesting. The whole idea is that you tell the villages what to do, and they do it to the best of their efforts. You get them to gather materials, build buildings and objects. Then there are uh.. heroes that will travel and stay in your town (depending on how good it is) and they'll go on quests, into the dungeons and get money and such. The dungeons are like.. the second "floor" down, so you'll have to be careful to not dig too deep too soon, else the monsters will come out and destroy your town/the people in it. I'm not a fan of some of the noises... but that's not something that will kill the game to me..

Now for 3079, at first look it may be seen as a minecraft clone with guns. While the game itself isn't very complex at this point, and can be a bit hard (at least from my experience)... and the controls need some work, imo... I hate hitting esc to close things and get the "are you sure you want to exit" screen... But, the game isn't like minecraft at all. There is very little block destroying, and very little "building" like minecraft. The game has some quests, and it has a story line, be it a short.. and rather easy one. The developer is working rather hard on it, and takes ideas seriously, and communicates well with the people who have feedback. I can't say anything about the devs for towns, as I haven't tried to talk to them at this point in time. I enjoyed the music for this game, but there is no volume control and it can all get very loud >< I have to turn it down a bit via the mixer... I hope to see that fixed at some point....

I don't know anything of the other game :(

EDIT:

there's a lot more to towns than what I've said... but I haven't played way too much of it personally.

Same for 3079, there's more to it than what I've said, and the dev has a lot of plans! He wants to change models up for the guns, and wants to do something like borderlands (randomly generate gun stuff). to me the games all seem worth supporting, and I'm glad to see this bundle! I'm sure the devs, come when the games are complete and (hopefully) on steam, they'll be willing to help with steam keys! Puppygames has done that for their games, and I believe the devs for Project Zomboid said something about dong the same...

3079 is actually an enjoyable game! Everyone assumes it's just another minecraft clone... but it's not. And the dev is pretty nice, and takes suggestions to heart, and will implement what he sees fit! I've already bought this game personally... At first I didn't think it would be great, and figured it was just another minecraft clone, but it's pretty decent and is being worked on with good effort and care...

Towns isn't bad. I may pick up this bundle for that game. I don't know if I enjoyed it enough for full price so I suppose5$ is enough..

I know nothing of the third game.. But uh.. I thought this wasn't supposed to start for another week? Oh well... Thanks for the notice! I would have been late to the game otherwise (much later at least! ;))

Ok I didn't want to say anything bad about games but they don't look very promising or very interesting... Theyr %40 to %75 complete so we're actually paying for unfinished games. Site we're having this conversation on is "steam"gifts so I guess you shouldn't judge people if their favorite gaming platform is steam.

And compared to the previous bundles this one is expensive and relatively worse in content.

Keep a log. Or backup everything together. Even if it doesn't work on your platform, you still have a copy lying around, then.

i hate it when people compare games to stuff with 1 thing in comon like minecraft and terraria, alot of people compare taht because it is blocky, u can mine and u can build..... u don't compare the sims to minecraft because you can build, do you?

Comment has been collapsed.

Minecraft and terraria were very similar, thats not the best example. I dont really think that if Minecraft was 2d it would look/play much differently. (based on experiences with terraria and minecraft 6 months ago, might not apply anymore)

As well the one game looks like it could be a Minecraft mod, so its fair to say its like Minecraft and something else combined.

Not necessarily; as I mentioned in a comment on the first page, the NES/GB/SNES Zelda games are compared to JRPGs only because they look similar, while Zelda games are actually metroidvanias, as I realized years later.

Its blocky.... doesnt mean its minecraft, you know that minecraft is a infiminer mod then? but it isn't is it?

Permalink

Comment has been collapsed.

Of course its not minecraft, but it looks a lot like minecraft, enough so that if someone told me it was a mod before I learned anything about the game I would have believed them.

People compare zelda to a jrpg? Must be people who never dealt with the earlier systems much and dont realize everythings blocky when your playing 16bit.

I'd probably of considered it if they have Project Zomboid or at least an alpha that seems like it'll be good but none of these are really of interest, if they add something I'll play at a later date then they can have my money but until then I'll buy Serious Sam 2.

I actually feel more inclined to buy this bundle given the basis that the games are alpha builds, since I like supporting indie developers.

I haven't budgeted the money for this yet, though. I'd have to do it soon if I want to do this.

3079 looks like a shit. May be gameplay is good, but i'm not sure...
Wyv and Keep looks AMAZING!!! It's WONDERFUL. It's remind me some 8-bit console games.
And i hope Tonws is something like Dwarf Fortress with graphics.
So, it's sad that no-steam, but i'll buy it.

Towns is the most interesting for me.
It reminds me of the old simulator games like "Theme hospital", and its something similar to Dwarf fortress but easier (tried Dwarf fortress but didnt want to read a bazillion tutorials just so i know how to play it).
But for now i´ll pass on buying them.

Does "up to the final version" mean "INCLUDING the final version"? Just wondering if you'll have to re-buy the games later. Nothing says whether or not you'll get Steam keys if they're later released there or not.

Yes, including the final version, and yes, you also get steam keys if the games come out on Steam.
