lol Panic! At The Disco used to be my favorite band for a long time.. but mainly because of their first album. I still know ALL the lyrics, I remember I wrote them all down on paper and stuff haha.. but now my favorite band is:

Foals <3

And besides them, I love: Jamie XX, Radiohead, Tame Impala, Metronomy, Death Cab, Caribou, Mount Kimbie, James Blake, Tocotronic, The Whitest Boy Alive, SBTRKT, The XX, Daft Punk, The National, Alt-J, Sigur Rós, Yeasayer, Kölsch, Moderat, Odesza, Burial.... The list is endless. I'm also glad to say that from the list above, I've seen all of them live in concert except Daft Punk & Burial.

I like a lot of very different things and genres. I mean it. A lot. I jump from baroque to country with the same ease I do from synth-pop to classic metal, from new age meets Tibetan chants to dubstep (in small doses :p ).

But if I have to name a band that's my clear-cut favorite, I can only name Camel, a semi-unknown British prog-rock band from the 70s (although still active).

I totally fell in love with Theory of a Deadman, Imagine Dragons, Muse, and more recently with Starset.
I feel like such a sl groupie when I listen their albums. Don't mock me :(

Here's a few:

Teeth of the Hydra
Sweetheart
Protestant
Quest for Fire
Abaddon
Defiance,Ohio
Get Rad
Swordheaven

I cheated a bit; they're all bands of friends from my two "home" towns. Many of them are now defunct.

Defiance,Ohio and Get Rad I have heard and liked....the others if I heard them I do not remember.

DO almost single-handedly started the whole "folk-punk" movement whose best known export is probably Against Me!
Get Rad live shows were terrific good fun, I miss those days.

The fact that you like them both means you have better than average taste:)

I wish I could answer this but listening to new music used to be a big hobby of mine (still a small hobby) so I ended up liking like 1000+ bands making very difficult to pick favorites.

I've been listening to a lot of Harley Poe and Amigo the Devil lately.
But favorites would have to be... Crass, Andrew Jackson Jihad, Subhumans, Conflict, Bad Religion, Minor Threat, Mountain Goats, Misfits, "Defiance, Ohio", Distillers, Ghost Mice, Dwarves, Woods of Ypres and more.
The undisputed all-time favorite is Iron Maiden, that's for sure.

it varies, it changes and as with books it's impossible for me to pick one (three or even ten) favorite ones. So I'll just leave my last.fm here ʕ•ᴥ•ʔ
