In absolutely no specific order other than the first one:
Pink Floyd, Led Zeppelin, Tool, Iron Maiden, My Dying Bride, Portishead, Jeff Buckley, Mutyumu, Opeth (not the more recent stuff, though, sadly), Ornatos Violeta, Primus, Rage Against the Machine, Life of Agony, etc.

Opeth - i liked their last rock prog album, not so much Heritage. Interestingly enough i have a couple of friends who started enjoying the band recently due to those albums
Ornatos - sadly they dont have that many songs
Mutyumu - "Il y a" is, really really good. Vocalist is one of a kind

hah yea i know rammstein is internationally famous but i don't like them either.
a lot of people here compare die toten hosen to die ärzte, do you know them? and then there's either fans of the one or the other but finding someone who like both is not really common. i personally dont like die hosen but die ärzte are great^^
my favs from your list are cage the elephant (i was so shocked when i started playing borderlands and noticed they are on the soundtrack :O), linkin park (although they were shitty as hell when i saw them live 2 years ago), nine inch nails (also saw them 2 years ago and i only knew one song of them but that was the biggest surprise to me at Rock Am Ring Festival, I enjoyed it so much, it was impressive ^^) and the prodigy.. and maybe green day. all of them fall under the "nostalgic" category to me though, i had this metal phase, then hardcore, then punk, then rock and from there i went to indie (+ techno / electronic) and pretty much stayed there (i knew who i am now / found myself, probs to me)

I saw PJ Harvey just yesterday, so it's hard to name anyone else at the moment, she's a goddess. Normally I'd mention Pulp, Blur, Depeche Mode, Nick Cave, Joy Division, Kasabian, Patrick Wolf, The White Stripes, The Libertines, Garbage, IAMX, Black Rebel Motorcycle Club and so on.

I hate saying this bs but MM's early stuff! I'll never tire of their first two albums.

:D Glad to hear that. I love them. Although not all their stuff is good, maybe you just listened to some weaker stuff first. Just the fact that sometimes they have different styles and sounds even within the same album makes it a hit-or-miss.

one of the most influential and well known bands/artists for each of the most common music genres.

I've seen them quite late in october 2012.. Caribou was the support act - 2 of my favorite artists at once! And even for free because I was selling ice cream before the concerts started and could attend the show afterwards. Haha I love those kind of jobs :3

I have never listened to Lamb of God, but I am now learning one of their songs as my band mates decided we're going to play an instrumental version of "Laid to Rest" tomorrow. That's some pretty complex stuff! O.o

I've learned this song on a guitar. It's pretty difficult at first, but after some time it becomes so comfortable and fun to play. Not every song gives me so much joy :)

Pretty cool! I'll have to learn it both on bass and guitar, because one of our guitarists has left us :(
And you're right, it's a very gratifying song to play.

Anathema, The Legendary Pink Dots, Russian Circles, Apulanta, 65daysofstatic. I listen to tons of mucic but as whole bands I think the aforementioned are the best. I'm probably forgetting something though. Anneke van Giersbergen, Go!Go!7188, Masada String Trio, Ludovico Einaudi, My Dying Bride, Samael, The Gathering, Explosions in the Sky, Red Sparowes, This Will Destroy You, This is Your Captain Speaking and Yndi Halda deserve a mention too.
