Looking for Strategy games

Civ 5

If you are willing to buy titles on GOG, I recommend these games.

• Dark Reign
• Total Annihilation

Citadel? Although people are saying that it's buggy and everything, it's very similar to Age of Empires where you have to collect all sorts of resources from wood, to stone, wheat, iron, and etc...

Also another RTS/Turn based game was recently released called Divinity: Dragon Commander. I guess you could say this is kinda like Total War except you can command a dragon in battle hence the name, Dragon Commander

Then there's Europa Universalis 4 but I don't think that's what you are looking for. There's a demo out for this game if you want to try it out.

Lastly, there's Planetary Annihilation which is kinda like Command and Conquer with having to build energy plants and then extractors which allows you to build units except it's supposed to be on a planetary level with multiple planets/galaxies. It's kinda pricy ATM but will drop down to about $40 by retail release.

Company of heroes, warhammer (old ones)

While not exactly similar to AoE, I can recommend Knights of Honor.

And not at all similar to AoE, an adventure-strategy-RPG game, King of Dragon Pass, available on GOG.

XCOM: Enemy Unknown is great.

The Command and Conquer Series and the Warcraft/Starcraft series are very similar to Age of Empires. I recommend them.
