As an MTG and HS player... I guess I should get around to actually playing that game.

I added you on Steam to give you the private giveaway link for Doom, thanks for participating. I hope you had fun!

Sounds interesting.
I played my first interesting card game in final fantasy, it was called triple triad.
Not playing too much card games since then, tried Heartstone too, but not digged too much into it.
Not sure if I will have time on November 5th.
If I'm in or not I wish you fun with the tournament, and I'll have a look at Faeria

No problem at all, I'm glad you're checking the game out :)

Thanks for the bump! If you ever need some help getting started, feel free to let me know :D

Do you play Paper Magic or Magic Duels or Magic Online? Magic will always have a special place in my heart. My favorite part about Magic has to be all the combat tricks, that back and forth you do when both of you have mana available and you're staring across the table trying to figure out if its safe to attack or not. No other game does that kind of interactivity during combat.

I have played a bit of Duelyst, made a midrange Lyonar deck to ladder with. Part of the reason I didn't continue playing is because it felt quite expensive to craft new decks and it felt like it took forever to get more orbs to open. Compared to Magic Duels and Faeria, Duelyst felt the grindiest to build a collection with so I chose to drop it.

Sure thing, all you have to do is reply to the first post above :)

Three thumbs up for the effort you're putting into this. Unfortunately I really don't think I have time to dive into another TCG/CCG (already 2 years deep into Hearthstone) and next on my list was already Duelyst =(
Have you tried Shadowverse?

I have! I steered clear of Shadowverse for a while for 2 reasons, I wasn't exactly keen on the art style and also because it was mobile only, which in my mind meant pay to win. I got bored one night and decided to try it out and spent like 6 hours playing through the different campaigns. I was surprised at how much I enjoyed playing it, and ended up recommending it to a few friends. It wasn't something I planned on sustaining though since I still play Faeria, Hearthstone and Magic on a fairly regular basis (and I have thousands of other games in my backlog too)

I really wish I could participate but November's 5th and 6th are the days where ENEM is being held here in Brazil. Basically, it is the most important test we can take, and can open many many doors to colleges and stuff. I don't expect you to delay it in one week because of one person, but I wanted to tell you I love this idea. Bump!

Completely understandable, I wish you luck with your exams! If you decide to check out Faeria when you have a chance, please let me know!

Although I played magic the gathering in the past I kinda feel theres too much luck factor based on it (I know its inevitable on card games, still...) so I stopped playing, unless a friend really wants to play for fun. You feel Faeria is more "fair" in this regard?
I am not interested in this tourney due to the reason listed but its a great idea and I wish you luck.

There is always going to be some randomness in card games, purely because of card draw. Faeria is much less random than most card games, since there is a power wheel that you may use once per turn. This wheel allows you to place 1 special land of your choice, 2 neutral lands, draw a card, or gain a mana. MtG can feel really random because its easy to become mana starved or mana flooded, though you try to minimize that by running cards that allow you to fetch lands more consistently or with the landfall mechanic. The Pandora mode (i.e. draft or arena mode) has treasures that have very significant effects that you draw into. Pandora mode feels more random than the standard constructed mode since the treasures tend to be very powerful and can easily swing the game around.

Awesome, if possible could you add your name as a reply to the first post?

I'm a huge fan of card games in general. I've been playing Hearthstone since it was still in closed beta and I have been playing Magic the Gathering since I was in middle school (Revised Edition and Fourth Edition were how I got started). In fact, I still play Hearthstone and Magic the Gathering to this day. With that said, I absolutely love Faeria and consider it to be my favorite collectible card game on the market today. There are just so many decisions to be made, so many ways you can optimize your play. It's wonderful just how many different lines of plays you can have, even on your very first turn. The game is very easy to pick up but difficult to master.
The primary goal of this tournament is to introduce some new players to the game, make some new friends, have some fun and win some prizes. You don't need to invest money into buying packs or have been playing this game for months. Everybody will be on an equal playing ground because everybody will be using decks built with the game's default codices. There are 20 codices altogether, the first 8 are unlocked purely by playing through the tutorial missions. The next 12 are unlocked by completing the first few quests in the game's solo mode. It took me just under 45 minutes to unlock all the codices on an alt account, so hopefully that shouldn't be too large of a commitment to participate in this tournament.
Format:
Best of 3
Single Elimination
An additional match will be held to determine 3rd place between semifinal losers
Conquest: A player must win a game with each of their decks in order to advance.
Each match in the semi-finals and the finals will be broadcast on my Twitch channel
Matches in the Round of 8, 16, and 32 will be chosen at random to be broadcast.
The broadcast will have a 10 minute delay to lessen the risk of stream sniping.
Deck Restrictions:
Craft 2 decks using only the game's built in codices. Each codex adds a total of 6 cards (2 copies of 3 different cards) to your deck, so each deck should consist of 5 different codices.
Date & Time:
All matches will be played on Saturday, November 5th starting at 4 PM GMT
Rules:
All players should have Kataztrophik added as a friend on Faeria so that I may spectate their games
All players should join the Steam group for announcements and giveaway(s).
The start of each round will be announced through the Steam group.
Once the start of the round has been announced, all participants should begin their matches.
Once all the matches in a round have been completed, there will be a short 15 minute break before the start of the next round.
Should a participant fail to show up for their match after 15 minutes of round start, they will be disqualified.
In the event of a disconnection, players have 10 minutes to reconnect to a tournament lobby, otherwise they will be disqualified.
Results should be reported directly to me through Steam. Please take screenshots at the end of each match in case there are any discrepancies with the results being reported.
Decks can not be checked prior to the tournament, so players are expected to monitor and report any opponents who build decks that do not conform to the restrictions.
A full list of the cards that are eligible for play can be found here
Prizes:
All participants will be invited to a group giveaway for Doom.
First, second, and third place winners will each receive a Steam game of their choice up to $15, $10, and $5 respectively.
I really wish I could give out better prizes but unfortunately, this is all I can afford at the moment.
Sign-ups:
The first 32 people who reply below will be randomly seeded in the bracket. If there are more than 32 people who wish to participate, they may join a waitlist should any players fail to show up for their matches in the opening round. Sign-ups will close 24 hours before the start of the tournament, and the bracket will be generated and posted in both this thread and the Steam group.
That's it! This is the first time I've tried to organize anything like this, so I hope all goes well. If you have any questions, please feel free to ask. Also, if you decide that you enjoy the game and want to continue playing, there are some great resources available to you. Faeria has a great community and a very active Discord channel where you can always find people hanging out, theorycrafting decklists and helping each other improve at the game.
Depending on how this goes (and also the state of my wallet) I may do more of these in the future! I welcome any feedback you guys may have!
