Not that you couldn't do it before. Only now it's possible via a more noob-friendly way :)

He said some Steam games, not all Steam games.

No, because then Steam would install all Games on my SSD and that wouldn't work out... you know that SSD are pretty small?

It took them 7 years to add a volume slider...
Also, as other have said, it was already possible.

Been able to to that for awhile. I use this. I have Steam installed on my HDD(D:) and use this program to move select games on my SSD(C:)

This was a problem? Why? Are people not aware that you can install Steam wherever you want, which means the games automatically get installed where you want them? I've always installed my games on a separate drive from my system, so I just installed Steam on that drive and voila, all my games are on the drive I want them to be on.

This is to let you install steam games on multiple partitions at once without having to move your steam install location.

That strikes me as a rather rare circumstance, one of those "power user" things that the vast majority of Steam users will never want or need. I understand why Valve hasn't implemented this yet and why it is so hard to access in the beta.

The reason it's a problem is if you run out of space on that separate drive, you would be able to install games on to another different drive, instead of having the move over the entire Steam folder to said new drive.
So you can have some games in D:\Steam and more in F:\Steam (for example).

facepalm
What people wants is being able to install different games in different drives.
Not a problem if you have 2 indie games and a 2TB hard drive, but it's a problem when you have a library of 200 games and a 500-1000GB drive.

Some people might want that, but like I said above, that strikes me as a rare circumstance. Not that Valve shouldn't implement this; if even some people want it, it is worth adding, if only as an advanced option.

However, hard drives are cheap. If your game library is growing too large for the hard drive you currently have, maybe you should consider re-directing some of that game budget to a larger hard drive.

"maybe you should consider re-directing some of that game budget to a larger hard drive"
Yeah, I'd buy a new drive but that doesn't mean I want to chuck the other one. After running out of space on Steam's installation drive you can download any other games to the new drive.

Moving a Steam installation to that new, larger drive is not that hard, certainly easier than getting at this new feature within Steam (for the moment). No need to "chuck" that older drive, however, it is usually best to move the older drive down in priority when getting new drives. Hard drives do not last forever and if you've been thrashing a drive with games for a while, it is probably a good idea to get them off that drive and re-purposes it for something a little less read/write intensive; semi-retire it, so to speak.

It has a very easy-to-use ui. Stop arguing for the sake of it. It's not a poweruser thing. Also, Hard drives haven't been affordable since that Thai flood incident last year. Just because you don't find a feature useful doesn't mean the rest of us don't need it.
It's not always possible to move your steam install to another drive painlessly. In my case I had to migrate my steam install to a smaller capacity partition because the drive it was on failed and I had to uninstall a few games that I haven't had the capacity to install since without resorting to symlinks.

so i can have some games on one hdd and if im low on space then i put them on another hdd,i dont see how this answer is not obvious.

Adding new locations only works if steam is not downloading anything. Otherwise it just gives an error. Also, this works for games that use the new file format.

All the games will be in this new format eventually, why waste resources making it for the old system?
But they should hurry up converting games to the new system.
