Ok.

EDIT:
Not to mention that some of your gifts have been devalued long time before you gave them away (e.g. Cities in Motion 2 - bundled in 2013) and definitely had the asterisk (*) when you were creating the giveaway, so you should have probably read that information about them being of reduced value.

Doesn't look like it. As I've mentioned above, Cities in Motion 2 clearly has a star and for a long time.

yep this is the way of steamgifts. it doesnt matter if you spend lots of money on a game. if it gradually ends up in a bundle youre doomed. just join everyone else and just give away the dollar bundles. that way no surprises :D

That's not true. You'll only lose value if your game was bundled before your giveaway, otherwise they stay at full value.

Still, the value of your giveaways degrades over time as the prices on Steam get lower (not 100% sure about this one).

yes i already know that but thank you. however you never know when the bundle will be bundled and how far it will set the date to. thats why i said just do the bundle way. no surprises there!

If you're unsure if a game is bundled (or not) it's a good idea to use isthereanydeal.com to track the sales. I use it mostly for the alerts when games hit my personalized price threshold below which I might buy it. However, thanks to it being updated rather quickly and tracking prices at many stores you can check the product's price history and/or inclusion in bundles, which should help you with knowing if it'll be marked as bundled on SG as well.

well thats good for everyone if they dont know. i dont have much cash ever spare so its really only bundles i can afford to give out and then really only when i have a game im willing to push cash towards. but hey at least i know i gave away a full priced game at least once before if i cant do it anytime in the near future.

They recently started bundling monthly games that sell for cheap on grey sites and set their value as bundled from the day of the bundle, regardless of when they end up adding those games on the bundle list.

You can read more about it in my thread where a moderator chimed in.

Didn't know about that, thanks for the link.

It seems like this is a very exclusive case, where it was done to patch an exploit used by people to gain levels quickly. This happened before with a few bundles already. I can personally recall at least one more case with a software bundle on HB that was pretty exploitable around a year or two ago.

It is even in the FAQ that values are subject to change. Have you even read the FAQ, guidelines & announcements?

Reason for the CV drop/monthly games on bundled list

Here you can find the reason for it. But it is exploiting the system with shady sites for high CV gain.
I still think that an ez way to stop exploiting of CV is give full CV for 1st copy and bundled for others, ez fix and a lot of people who didnt use shady russian sites to get mass keys for 0.3$ for 30$ CV dont get fucked :)

As far I see, the problem is with people giving 5 copies of huge CV games. Maybe the copies rules could be changed to 1 copy with full CV and the rest of copies with bundled CV. :/

That is what I advised but the moderator (who from the looks of it decided on this change) says that the suggested solution cant be done without CG implementing new stuff

Permalink

Comment has been collapsed.

There may only be certain users that have access to it but it wouldn't really need new features it would just need the values adjusting for the existing multiple copy rules.

Not sure how and what is coded but I am just saying what I was told by that moderator :)

The thing about that is that that means that people who mostly gift extra bundle games they happened to end up with via buying bundles would end up with extremely high CV. That might not be what they intend.

(And I say that as one of the people who would benefit massively from that change, since most of my giveaways are bundle extras.)

IIRC the system already gives reduced value if you give away the same game repeatedly?

Bundled games i bundled so not sure how would they end up with high CV O.o

I said that the fix to exploiting monthlies(unbundled) games would be this. Not changing everything. So extra games from bundles would still give you 15% CV. Hope that we are now clear on what I meant by this :)

So, this is your reason? You are not gifting games so people could play them, but to raise a stat? Will the winners feel worse if they play them because they are on the reduced value list?

I admire your faith in people, but I'd say that most people on SG share that ambition. After all, higher level -> more GAs available. Hell, I probably started like that, too (free gaems!). And then somewhere along the way you get hooked and just proceed on spending most of your salary on it :P

But that is it: the amount of extra giveaways over level 4 are negligible; barely over 8%. Even when exploiting the dirtiest bowels of Russian grey markets, it is a losing venture. Most of the "good stuff" are posted for small groups or with region locks (usually for SEA, RU/CIS, Brazil, SA, roughly in this order).

This is true, but remember, we're all gamers here. I think many people like to raise their CV just because it's a stat and because getting a higher CV feels good even if the actual benefits are negligible.

Mb if the CV system wasn't exploited by giving away cheap keys bought on greymarkets massively(The Norwood Suite x8, HIVESWAP: Act 1 x6 etc) the games would still grant full value. So i don't get why you complain.

Yes, this person is exactly the reason why all these HB Monthlies got bundled, by buying dozens of copies for cheap on gray market, while the rest of us who bought the whole Monthly for 12$ legit or games for 2-2.5$ average suffer consequences. And he has the nerve to come here and complain and ask for his money/keys back. SMH >_<

While it does kinda suck to have your CV reduced (especially considering how it's apparently all due to shady resellers and the people who exploit them), making a whiny passive-aggressive thread about it won't change that. It's particularly a dick move to somehow ask for people to give you back the keys, considering how you were gifting them.

The value was reduced because of people like you abusing the system. Not a single one of the games in your list go for over $1 on the grey market, but you're upset because you don't get full price worth of CV for each one. I have no sympathy.

I hope that's within the context of them having already obtained their own copies off the grey market, otherwise referencing grey market pricing as a baseline is an awfully strong legitimization of grey markets to push. :P

From the looks of it, you bought a bunch of Humble Monthly games from a grey market site for about 25 cents each and expect full CV.
Good luck with that.

EDIT: You still got full CV for your 6 copies of Acceleration of SUGURI 2. Quit your bitching.

I mean, whatever the reason, they do still have almost 15x as many games sent as games won. I'm not going to criticize that ratio. Even buying cheap grey market games and gifting them takes some effort when they're doing it at that scale.

Cities in Motion 2 was in the Humble Jumbo Bundle back in 2013. Why wouldn't it count as bundled?

Edit - Or to put it another way, if you wanted full CV you 'exchanged' for the wrong thing. It was a cheap bundle game nearly 5 years ago...

More giveaways > more points > higher level
It's not that difficult.
Of course they are trying to prevent people giving away the same humble monthly title multiple times just to abuse the system.
