What makes Half-Life series so....overrated?

Because some parts of the storyline are still not explained from HL1, and a lot of people actually want to know about them.

Also the first HL was a complete innovation in terms of story telling, so from there people expected better in each new game.

I enjoy the Half Life games, but i dont consider myself a FAN.

And also ep2 ended without end.

Half-Life 2 is the fucking best game ever made....
and the story is just great

You've played all the Half-Life games and don't understand why? Really? You finished EP2 and thought "boy, I sure don't care what happens next". Is that humanly possible? The Half-Life games are NOT overrated, they are some of the best videogames made to this date on any platform.

Both HL were tip of the iceberg. Combined: good story, good/innovative gameplay, awesome graphics (even on medium/low specs PC)

Everybody awaits from next installment continuation of good tradition!

off course Valve can fail on delivering this, and this franchise will die in pain (as Splinter Cell did for Me with SC:cuntviction)

or Valve can let HL die like a HERO, and never release any sequel

I dont think ep3/hl3 will 'rock' the gaming world but, just think it.. all the games made by valve are quality and good.

HL/Portal 1-2/L4D and more..

I honestly don't think it's overrated. It deserves all the praise it gets. It was revolutionary as how far you could take a game. Sure it did have its problems, like any other game. My only gripe was that it felt disjointed in the quality of each chapter.

On another note, the Portal series is overrated.

I'm not into FPS but I loved Half Life 2 and its Episodes. It somehow manages to always remain fresh and doesn't end up being a mindless shoot-fest. Platforming, exploration, puzzles, story, graphics (for it's time), it has everything.

Basically, it will rock, what else is there to say about it?

I'm no fan of half life 2, but i am a big fan of half life, mostly because of the modifications that are around for the game, it's one of the best games ever made in my opinion, despite it being old and all that, it still manages to be on top of the list of many people out there, like me, with good reasons behind it.

Let's face it, whatever valve releases it's likely to be good quality products, they are good when it comes to please people with their new projects. Not to mention the wde selection of games/mods that come out of half life/half life 2, half life 3 would probably be made on a new engine, which means lots more mods made for that game, which also proves to be positive to people who enjoy these games.

Because like Blizzard, Valve put 110% effort into their games and guarantee quality and an amazing experience.

When the first Half Life was released, it was a ground breaking game. Crazy AI, awesome scripted events, innovative gameplay, etc.

Now when people hear there's a new HL game coming up, they hope that the entire industry will take another giant leap forward.

We'll see..

I really need the first Half Life. Been playing Half Life 2 and it seems wrong to play that first. I do not get what that Black Mesa thing is about.

Overrated...wow. Tell me just one other Shooter you would actually scream out like : YAY THIS STORY DUDE, SO AWESOME. When you finish a COD campaign you dont even know about the story coz its uninteresting.

How the hell can half-life be overrated?

The original half-life is simply the best FPS of all time. No other shooter has helped shape the modern fps like hl did. What people seem to forget (or not know due to their age) when talking about half-life is that it set so many new standards - the graphics, the story, the level of interaction, the in-game cutscenes, the AI, the LACK OF A UNIVERSALLY GRAY PALLET... Nothing like that existed before this game showed up. It's like saying a plain doughnut is overrated as opposed to the new and improved doughnut with sprinkles without realizing that before the humble doughnut, there was only stale moldy bread.

I agree with OP. Played every game in the series (except the HL1 expansions) and while I enjoyed them very much and consider them great games I still believe people are overreacting. When episode 2 ended, I wanted to know what's next like everybody else but people are taking it hard for some reason. I guess it's the same type of people that demand that George Martin finish writing 'A Song of Ice and Fire' or that after watching a TV show episode that ended with a cliffhanger must watch the next one.

Reasons:

• Every Half-life game goes on one of the best stories ever made.
• Every Half-life (in fact, every Valve game) innovates so much.
• Is there anywhere a Gravity gun?
• Is there anywhere those physics?
• Is there anywhere a Portal gun (or a boss like GladOS?)?
• Is there anywhere a better partner than Alyx?
• Is there any cutier zombie than those crabs?

I dont know why, i only have played HL2 recently and for a few hours... but i can tell about Portal 2: it's one of the best games i ever played in my life (i'm 32 and game player since my 8), if Half Life series is like Portal 2 (the game that take me back to first player games), i believe is a f***ing great game... maybe not for who like me are playing the game only today, but in a few hours i've played i cannot believe HL2 already have EIGHT years
