I was just curious as I realized that now that we can see how many black/whitelists we are on, I'd thought I'd be happy when I saw myself getting more whitelists and sad when I got added to blacklists(yes I'm that kind of person). But actually, I've found that I really literally don't care about gathering blacklists. I mean, I've accepted long ago that lots of people hate me and honestly that's fine. But I do feel quite sad every time I get un-whitelisted. Like, I've disappointed someone who liked me. This person used to believe in me, and now they don't. I'm a broken pedestal now. It's a bit ridiculous but hey , if we could decide what to care about earth would be a much happier place.

Obligatory giveaway now that I have money again :D

Edit edit: GA works again, hurray! Not for long though. Grab it while you can!

I don't care either way
It's really horrible either way

Neither bother me in the slightest. Ofc, I've only been blacklisted once, oddly enough while I wasn't even using the site... And when people remove me from whitelist, I just assume it was a temp add. Honestly, I'm surprised I've even gotten all the whitelists I have, and some of them do some pretty good giveaways so... I'm happy as can be.

Does it even matter? Blacklists and whitelists are just numbers. They let you or block you from entering some giveaways. So what? People that usually do good giveaways don't blacklist anyway, so who cares? xD You don't even know the person that blacklisted or whitelisted you and you'll never get to know him/her, so chill out and have fun. ;P

gonna have to go with being un-blacklisted.. it hurts my feelings when my hard-earned blacklist gets removed..

I guess unwhitelisted would hurt more, although there could be various reasons for why it happens, not necessary that somebody stopped liking you (you could have been whitelisting for an event, won something from them and unwhitelisted to give others a better chance, etc).

haha, let me tell you, it was not funny at that time (first time it broke their legs ) . It has learned its lesson by now .

But yeah, you made me remember to move to another place that is closer to the floor

Oh, I thought it wouldn't get hurt. Cats can survive from falling from big heights, as long as they are fast enough to understand that they're falling and position their legs. Just don't let the cat go near the balcony or the windows.

It was very small at that time (like 3 months or so, I think that was the issue, as the falling was due to not having a good balance at that time)
The second time it had a small problem on its eye from the fall (red eyes for a couple months) and jumped because it saw a bird and tried to catch it, but was something minor (now , it got better at catching birds and somewhat hypnotize them )
Now It doesn't have a problem being at the windows and have not fallen.

But cats are awesome :D

what about being unblacklisted? if someone collects blacklists, might feel bad about it too ;)

In general I'm not concerned by being unwhitelisted or blacklisted, but I guess being unwhitelisted by users whose giveaways descriptions are interesting to read and/or useful (e.g. like DeerScanner in Gequila's gibs) would be far more "painful" :)

It's nice to get whitelisted, but it really sucks being blacklisted. You never know why for either reason.

Most blacklisting is a result of people returning the favor (or that's how I'd like to think about it), so yes, unwhitelisting is worse.

BTW, if you care about WL/BL numbers and are good with math, maybe you can solve this :-)

Hm, I like that!

Well I have no idea how to make it properly objective but it's interesting to think about so let's:

I think that while whitelisted and blacklisted others should count, it shouldn't be as much as whitelists/blacklists you're on do. It's not really fair to give someone a negative ratio just because they've whitelisted more people than have whitelisted them. Also, having blacklisted a lot of people helps you, until you've blacklisted more than have blacklisted you back when it makes your ratio negative, unless you've also whitelisted more people than have whitelisted you which makes it positive again.

I think the whitelisted others thing and blacklisted others thing should be modified by how many forum posts and GAs one has. For example, if you've never made any GA, then they really don't matter at all. Meanwhile, I've mostly had people blacklist me back only when I've done private forum GAs. (I don't know about revenge-whitelisting, since I haven't done any whitelist GAs since the stats were added :( - but I do think it's a bit less common? At least people don't talk about it as much).

So, just for fun and a bit arbitrarily I'd go with something like:

Whitelist Indicator: [Whitelisted by Others / (Whitelisted People x 0.05 x Whitelist GAs)]
Blacklist Indicator: [Blacklisted by Others / (Blacklisted People x 0.001 x Forum Posts)]

Community Indicator = Whitelist Indicator - Blacklist Indicator

But that's just an on-the-spot post. Lemme think of this some more and post more later...

Edit: Apparently abusing * to mean "times" just makes things italicized. Well, makes sense.

I think that in general this is the right direction, but two of the parameters are not easy to find.

  • Forum Posts is not displayed anywhere. The Comments listed on profiles also include GA comments. So if someone uses a script to say "tnx" on every GA it enters, the number of comments will be very high.
  • Whitelist GAs is not tracked. SGTools combines whitelist and group GAs into a single number.

With that said, I tried putting my numbers into the formulas you suggest. This is what I ended up with:

Whitelist Indicator: 0.171
Blacklist Indicator: 0.047
Community Indicator: 0.124

Good? bad? so-so? I can't really say...

Hm, yes, you're right about forum posts, I hadn't considered how it's different from comments. Whitelist GAs is easy to find, though, you just open the group/whitelist GA page on SGTools and press ctrl-f and write "whitelists", then see how many hits you get, and remove 1 for the title.

I must say, I have a tendency to include a lot of unnecessary distractions in calculations such as these. I don't know if it's important but I'm always like "But we have to consider x!"

For what it's worth my intention in this case was that everything above 0 should be good and anything below it bad, though I guess it'd really depend on the overall average.

I got a 0 point something with my own numbers too, though one thing I noticed is a low number of posts can really mess up the score. Most of the test runs I tried got answers around 0, usually slightly below, but putting 6 in the posts count brought that down to ~ -145.

I guess the thing is, I want to divide the BI by .001 so I can take the number of posts into consideration without making it too small, but I want it to just be a check on the value of the posts, without driving up the BI by itself. Similarly, I think that the number of people who you have blacklisted/whitelisted should act to "explain" the number of BLs/WLs you're on, but I don't think they should continue to have influence on their own beyond that. (So you having 90 people BLd might explain why you're on 90 people's BL, especially if you post a lot, but it shouldn't make you a paragon of virtue if you have only 9 people on your own blacklist).

Of course, I have no idea how to actually achieve those things..

Well, not yet.

Actually, as far as I now, I've never been blacklisted by anyone who does a decent amount of GAs or any decent GAs at all. On the other hand, I know of a lot of people on who's whitelist I am that they do a lot of GAs and a lot of really good ones as well. So I think being removed from a whitelist would generally hurt me more.

Emotionally, being blacklisted hurts more because somebody deliberately intended to hurt you (as opposed to whitelists where somebody only deliberately selected you to be specifically rewarded).
However, from an economic view, being blacklisted only reduces your amount of potential wins by a near-zero amount, since that person might not make many giveaways at all, have a lot of entries or have other requirements anyway. Whilst a whitelist gives you huge opportunities at winning games at superior odds (even if the creator rarely makes any GAs), so it'd definitely hurt more financially to have that taken away again.

I'm gonna say the latter. Anyone can blacklist you for whatever random bs reason, but if you're taken down from a whitelist that means someone who was cool with you is not so anymore.

Well, you don't always notice an unwhitelist... and a blacklist most of the times you do. So I think a blacklist actually hurts me more UNLESS I'd notice an unwhitelist because then I'd feel exactly the way you described :)

Unwhitelisted, simply because I don't care if someone blacklists me. If I don't like the person, it's meaningless. If I like the person, I can still interact with him/her, just not access giveaways. If someone blacklists me because they think I won enough, or I am too high level, good for them, I wouldn't even blacklist them for it, as long as they are presenting this reasonably and without being offensive
And if someone whitelists me, that's their choice and should be respected (and be happy about it :) ) if unblacklisting happens, that feels a little worse, but still their choices, they surely have their reasons to do so.

I've seen plenty of white listing where it was for a specific giveaway, then they unwhitelist everyone they just whitelisted once the giveaway is over. Others where everyone except the winner is left whitelisted.

Thank goodness that it's not possible to find out who blacklists or unwhitelists you, though. I'm the kind of person that likes to resolve differences, so it's easier for me to let it go if I have no idea who / why / what I need to resolve.
