Hey guys, just a quick question.

What's the rule for posting a giveaway under a key that you're unsure if it's been used or not? I have a lot of keys from greenmangaming but my PC died recently and I lost the notepad file that told me which keys were still valid. Just curious how I should proceed with these keys now!

Don't do it if you're not sure.

I would add a description in the title that the keys might not work. If that is the case for one of your giveaways, you can offer them a replacement key or ask one of the mods to delete the giveaway.

That is NOT the way to go. The winner can reject any replacement or deletion and the giveaway creator would still be forced to deliver the right key.

As others have said, if you don't know if the key works, don't create a giveaway for it.

Did you mean replacement key as in key for the exact same game ?
Because you know you can't just give the winner a different game, right ?

If they want to be a dick about it they could even accept the replacement key and still mark the GA as not received because it's not the game you promised to give away.

Exactly. If a winner is ignorant enough to agree, this way he gets an unactivated win in his profile.

There was once a guy here who made a whitelist thread in which he whitelisted every person who agrees that the giveaway gets deleted incase the keys are invalid. So that would be an option.. (If you currently have people on your WL you could just make a temporary group for everyone who agrees)

A group is probably the way to go, but there is no point in rerolling. The giveaway has to be deleted.

Ah, yeah that was a typo on my end. I meant deleted of course :)

Even if you follow this option, some people might choose to be asses and reject the deletion anyway, which still forces you to deliver. You can deal with them afterwards, but they won't be punished by site rules and the damage will be done.

Original message: Actually the ultimate ass move would be to accept the replacement key and then still mark not received because it's the wrong game :D

Edit: Nevermind. I thought this was the conversation above where somebody recommended giving the winner a different game.

That is true... I've always wondered if there was a penalty for that, but it does seem like the ultimate loophole for asses :P

EDIT: You confused the hell out of me by editing your post while I was posting mine - looks like my reply doesn't make sense anymore xD

There are no rules for such a situation. If you create a giveaway, you are supposed to deliver a game, it's as simple as that. Whatever you do, there is a chance that some winners won't agree to GA deletion if some keys are invalid, and you'll get "not recieved" and suspension. So yeah, it's either orphan keys drop thread or some way of direct delivery of keys instead of SG giveaways. Or you could always just take a risk.

Anyway, I hope you PC has already been resurrected or replaced, and the loss of the said file is the only remaining problem in this department.

I've seen several of these on the site so far in all caps YOU AGREE TO DELETE THE GIVEAWAY IF IT DOESNT WORK... as comment said above, whitelist would be "official" way to do this since users must post publicly to confirm before you add them. I suppose.

While it's not a guarantee that they will actually follow up on what they promised, I guess it might have an effect knowing that many people read your statement. If they still choose not to, they cannot be punished by the site rules, however.
