How would you go about getting a ROW key for an obscure game to giveaway?

An old favourite of mine has made it to Steam. Unfortunately I didn't realise it was there for the Autumn sale, but if it gets put in the Winter sale I'd like to pick up a copy for myself, and another to giveaway. I live in a restricted region though, and rather than put it in a public region restricted giveaway, I'd rather make a forum post and have it as invite only so hopefully only somebody who'll genuinely play the game will get it.

Any ideas?

(And for those of you who are curious - Starship Titanic, by Douglas Adams) ;D - http://store.steampowered.com/app/467290/

best way would be to trade for a copy(or copies) with someone from a region free store location. People are more than happy to usually trade for csgo keys, so if you buy a couple of those, wait until they go tradeable, and then make an offer on steamtrades, you could probably find someone to trade with. Just be aware that because youre in a restricted region, the game is probably more expensive elsewhere, so youll PROBABLY have to trade for a higher value than what the game costs in your store. Hope that helps.

That sounds like it could work, I just checked and it costs $2 more in the US store (but the game isn't exactly expensive in the first place). Even if I buy and then trade items worth a little bit more it'd be a relatively small hit, and I'd wait for the Winter sale and hope it's on offer anyway. (I probably still have the original CDs & manuals somewhere...)

dont know if youre traded before, but i BELIEVE valve imposes a waiting period for trading items youve bought from the store (not sure how long, sorry.. others could help you with that), AND a trade hold for people you havent traded with before IF you dont have their mobile app... so if you decide youd like to trade some csgo keys for the game, it'd be a good idea to grab what you'll need a bit before the next sale event so that youre ready to go when the game gets a discount.

either way, best of luck.. game sure is an oldie, i even remember it (though never got a chance to play it).. looks great!

Outside of offloading trading cards/item drops I haven't bothered with Steam trading before. I'll get on the case, so hopefully somebody else can enjoy the game. Thanks for the advice. :)

It's an incredibly dated game, but for anybody that likes Hitchhikers Guide to the Galaxy, or any of Douglas Adams' work it's both unmissable - and one of his most easily missed works. I'd highly recommend picking it up in a sale if you're a fan.

To add what SHIV said, I believe the restriction before being able to trade Steam gifts to someone using the trade window is about 30 days.

Well, then better buy it from a trader living in a ROW region. Check the game on steamdb, check which ROW region has the cheapest price for it, and then add a trustworthy trader from that region. Or maybe there are already some traders that are selling a ROW copy for cheap, so conduct a search on steamtrades.

The game's only picked up 6 reviews on Steam so far, so I doubt there's many copies waiting to shift floating around. I'll get on the case and find a decent trader though - thanks. :)

If you check on steamdb the game that Wanderer7 is talking about, you'll see that you actually have the cheapest ROW price for this game (https://steamdb.info/app/467290/). Same goes for many other games.

What I often did was buying the games for giveaway from trustable Steam key resellers (e.g. Humble Bundle, Indiegala, Bundlestars, etc.). Usually, the keys they sell are ROW, so you won't have any problem even while being in a region locked country. But seeing that the game seems to be fairly new on Steam though, you should be trading with someone from a ROW region instead. You can try making a post on Steam Trades during the sale to see if anyone's interested in doing it.
