So I got my first paycheck ever today, and it's just in time because my keyboard broke. It was a cheap one, and I'm looking to get a nice one now. Any recommendations? Basically, just a nice keyboard with backlighting, anti-ghosting, programmable keys, etc. I was thinking about this but I hear that it's pretty big.

EDIT: As of now, I'm looking into mechanical keyboards, and I think that's what I'll be getting. Trying to decide between this and this. Any feedback on a good mechanical keyboard is welcome.

EDIT 2: Ok, now I'm pretty sure that I'm going to get this unless someone suggests otherwise.

You have to do more than just "make a raptr account", unfortunately.

I recommend using a IBM keyboard. These things never break easily. I'm using one to prove it.

I've had bad luck with Saitek. What's your budget and what features do you really need?

Best Buy had a great sale on a Logitech G19 for $80 last time I was there.

What type of problems have you had with them? If they break easily, then I definitely won't go with them; I plan to use this keyboard for a while.

That G19 looks pretty nice. It's $145 on Amazon though, that's pretty steep.

If you are planning to buy G19, consider the fact it has 2 conductors which can be annoying and probably the keyboard is very power consumptive.

After some more research, I'm leaning more towards the G510 now.

Yeah, I wouldn't spend that much on a keyboard.

As for Saiteks, every one I've owned has quit on me in a quick amount of time. Plus, the only backlit one I've owned, the paint on the keys wore off after only a few months of use, rendering some heavily-used keys blank.

I've mostly used Logitech and Microsoft keyboards since then. I'm fairly rough with keyboards and both brands stand up to my tendancy to drop them on a daily basis. I had a Microsoft comfort keyboard, an older model, survive an entire can of chicken soup once.

Well in my own opinion, being an RTS and MMO gamer, I find mechanical keyboards to be the best. They last forever and the noise they make when you hit a key is godly. If you're interested, a pretty amazing and popular make/model is DasKeyboard.
http://www.daskeyboard.com/ if you want to take a look. The price is a bit high though.

Either this or a Filco, but Filco keyboards are a lot harder to get and usually ship out from Singapore, so it takes a while to receive them anyway.
Whatever you do, don't go with a Razer mechanical keyboard if you decide to get a keyboard.

Honestly, I hate noisy keyboards - not as a gamer, but as a novellist.

I'd have to get a different keyboard for every NaNoWriMo at least, the repetitive sound would drive me insane!

If you are going for a mechanical keyboard, you should base your decision on the switches as they all have a different feel. Once you've figured what kind of switch you want, you can start looking for the keyboards with them.

Logitech G510 looks pretty damn good. I'm currently using a G110 as I didn't have enough money to buy one at the time :( Also I have a Microsoft Sidewinder X6 and it's very nice too

I use a wireless logitech K350 and i'm telling you. this thing is COMFORTABLE AS ALL HELL. and i know it may not have all that fancy light stuff but for the price... my gawd, it was one of my best buys ever, I never regretted it. so if you're looking for a nice solid multimedia keyboard i definitely suggest the logitech k350

If you have the money then personally i would suggest the Razer BlackWidow Ultimate, also if you have even more money to spend then id suggest upgrading that BlackWidow Ultimate Stealth Edition. Trust me its worth the extra bucks even just for the silent keys. When i first got the keyboard i thought the keys sounded pretty sweet but now it just pisses everyone off when im skyping people because of the loud noises and when its night i wake my brothers up. haha.

You don't need a high-end keyboard unless you're only using it for games and need all of those hotkeys. However, I'd recommend a simple 20$ one or the cheapest you can find because they do work for the long run and you get your money's worth of course.

I think Logitech make excellent headsets! But, I think that's just about the only thing they do well. I've used a G15 and while it wasn't a bad keyboard. It really wasn't all that good either. If you want a really nice keyboard, I suggest the Razer Blackwidow. It's a mechanical keyboard and it feels like you're typing on a cloud. The nicest keyboard I've ever owned. They've got a few different models, have a look around for one you like. I'm just using the standard 'expert' edition.

Razer BlackWidow Ultimate. Don't buy the Stealth edition, it sucks.
Btw, the stealth edition it's not so quiet :) I prefer the clicky noise from Blackwidow Ultimate.

If you are looking into mechanical keyboards, you might want to have a look at this site.
The Deck keyboards seem to be pretty well regarded too, but the price is starting to be quite high for just a keyboard however...
Also, as someone already said, avoid the mechanical keyboards from Razer.

DAS is okay. Unfortunately the best mechanical keyboard, the Avant Stellar has been discontinued.

Here are some others that are pretty good:

SteelSeries 6Gv2

SteelSeries 7G

Cooler Master Storm QuickFire

You could also go really old school and do buckling springs, like the old IBMs. They are actually better than the Cherries. Unicomp makes some fancy reproductions.
