So I wanted to play some Civ 6 and just realized that they released 2 expansions since I last played it.

Since the prices for them are still quite high and the Platinum Edition doesn't get cheaper if you already own the Base Game and some of the DLCs (really nice way to screw over your early buyers btw -.-* ) I wondered on what I would miss out if I only buy Gathering Storm and skip Rise and Fall entirely.

Is Rise and Fall really worth the 15€ or am I fine if I only go with Gathering Storm, because at least to me it seems to be the much more interesting expansion.

I just got both in fall sale, but I have just finished one round so I can't give my opinion, but I think there were some nice additions by rise and fall, anyway u can consider this as bump at least

Civ games are released playable but incomplete. They've done this for ages. In each of the two expansions that accompany each Civ release, they add major mechanics - religion sometimes, spies and complex diplomacy, economics systems, that sort of thing - which build up to make the completed game. It's immensely obnoxious. Ultimately the full game is more satisfying than the partial. I try to wait for the complete release, but I always fail. And kick myself along the way.

I just buy them as they come out and have never regretted it. Compared to some games that offer you 10-20 hours of gameplay Civs are almost free if you compare cost/hours played. I wouldn't call releasing a major expansion every 1-2 years any kind of obnoxious either when there are far worse examples of DLC abuse. They need to eat during those 5-6 years between Civs too.

https://www.macgamestore.com/product/11055/Sid-Meiers-Civilization-VI-Platinum-Edition/ is cheapest legit for Platinum and depending on region can be cheaper than both expansions on Steam.

You aren't missing much with just GS since it should include all game mechanics from RaF as well, just not the civilizations. Unless you want to play ranked multiplayer or are using some other mod which requires both.

you only miss the extra leaders/civ when you skip Rise and Fall
going for GS is the best option now if you want the complete experience
