Complaining because of the CV? And here I thought people gave away games for the actual pleasure of giving it to someone else, to make someone's day. Who knows if you'll even give it to someone who can't afford this many games. And it's not like people who can afford a lot of games don't deserve it either.

Having a problem with the CV system? Does it bother you? It seems so pointless from the way I see it.

You get to enter more giveaways with a higher CV. Good for you, but you should consider yourself lucky for being allowed in a free website where you can win games without having to pay for them first. Why? Because people are generous. CV is a good way to reward those who contribute, CV isn't meant to feed anyone's greediness, is it?

Human nature really sickens me sometimes.

Pointless thread, I know. Just felt like leaving this here.

Any time that contribution isn't a requirement, people will expect to be rewarded. Not that many people are just genuinely generous. Especially when the winners aren't always thankful, a lot of people are just looking to scam off the generosity of others.

Strongly Agree - I think maybe I should do a CV now to give back to the ones who do give back. However most of my winners have given, and the others who haven't are extremely grateful. Either way. This made me happy to read!

and why can someone not give a game away in order to make someone else happy as well as get CV? why does it have to be one or the other? why cant the meaning behind giving games away be for both reasons?

I didn't say it couldn't be for both reasons? However, getting CV should be considered a bonus and nothing more.

I haven't been able to give any games away yet due to joblessness. CV requirements on giveaways bother me in no way whatsoever. Some people out there just think they deserve all the things. They are greedy bastages. I, personally, can't wait till I can get in with the giving!

If I could afford it, same here, but I guess I would probably focus more on giving gifts to friends and people I know personally.

I think people are being overly elitist about the CV system but hypocritically enough I still don't want to give games to people who don't return anything to the community, or only contribute via bundle games.
Edit: I also sometimes slap in a random high-ish number and go with it.

When someone creates a giveaway they're free to set their own rules, it's their giveaway, people shouldn't be bitching because of high CVs to enter them, especially when it's a good game that's being given away.

Oh I never complain about people setting too high of a CV, I just think a lot of people are being stupid about the CV system in general, causes too much commotion and people with high CV stick together to bash on people who contributed nothing or only bundle games.

Yeah, spending 1usd for 6 games and giving them away, very generous.

If that person can't afford a game of 50 dollars, but spends 1 dollar in games for the sole purpose of giving them away so that other people can have them... why wouldn't it be considered generosity? It's better than nothing.

In the end they won't even get CV for it, since they will be considered bundled games. I don't understand your point, honestly.

So if a friend gives me a game I didn't want, and I create a giveaway so that someone else can have it, I'm being selfish? After all, I didn't pay a single cent for it.

If that is your point, let me know.

Hopefully you asked your friend if they'd want it back first =/

I'd be pissed if a friend did that. I bought the game for them - if they didn't want it, then I'd find another friend. Of course, I always ask friends before gifting them stuff. So I know they'd use it.

I remember a time where people hardly mention contribution- yeah, people generally called it just "contribution" then. Every time people mention "CV" or "contribution value" I couldn't help but feel a little bit of disgust to the phase... as if it symbolizes the greediness of people (not the ones who use it, I mean in general)...

Yea, I have no idea why I wrote this. Guess it was just hanging over my head for a while.

I find that if I focus on the people that do things I don't like, it ruins my mood. If, on the other hand, I focus on the people who are doing things I find great, then it inspires me to be a better person. With that in mind, I tend to "deal" with difficult people as appropriate and then move on. Why waste time and energy on them if I can't improve their outlook or situation?

I'm only against the contributor system because of the bundle list. I am for allowing people to have control of whom will win their game. I complain because a lot of good games been bundled. It would be nice to see more variety instead of just what is currently on sale. Regardless, it doesn't matter. If there is ever a game I actually want that gets bundled, I buy the bundle. So when I complain about this, I am kinda complaining for others... Weird.. I should stop.

The worst part about CV isn't the people who worry about having a lot of it; there's honestly nothing wrong with that. It's just a number, and it's not like any CV value below a thousand actually makes a meaningful difference.

The worst part about CV is that it causes threads like these where people complain that others are giving away games for the wrong reasons. Srsly? A giveaway is a giveaway. Sure, giving away a terrible game that's on sale for 90% off probably isn't as awesome as giving away Skyrim, but it's certainly better than giving away nothing (and both are not-as-awesome as the guy who gives away fifty copies of Skyrim -- so what?)

I think CV is a good thing because it encourages people to make giveaways; making giveaways is, after all, what the site is all about. The exact details about it aren't important. This forum itself is just an unimportant appendix to the site's main function, after all.

even though i'm not really rich...pretty poor actually, after entering so many GA's (in other words, so many chances to win cool games for free), i felt the urge to give something back when i first got some money in my steam wallet this summer sale. =)

not much tho...

the guy who won my game traded/gave it away tho...i was very P*****, but now it's back in his inventory for some reason. :/

saving up for winter-sale and won't be able to giveaway something else until then, i guess.

Just call 'em idiots and move along. You can't get stressed over these things. I used to really stress over people saying this or that or behaving like lowest living forms and you know what I've learned? It's easier to either ignore them or just leave the forum when they start annoying me. So my advice is - ignore 'em or just get away from forum for some time, relax, take care of your backlog and just forget that they even exist. Remember - not all people are same and you can't do anything about it! Stressing over it and getting annoyed won't help anyone, least of all - YOU!

Mixed feelings, then again I am fairly new to the site. Have only given away games that I got extra from bundles ( Or games that I am not interested from bundles that is. ) except for one, that one being an odd spur of the moment thing from me.. Being Universe Sandbox, bought a copy for myself as well as for here during the sale. I admit if I had more money than I do I probably would gift out more games.. but I really do not have THAT much to spare.

So I can see that sort of side of being too poor to really give some games out too.. but at the same time people who win a bunch of games but do not contribute themselves seems really wrong to me.

I give games that don't increase my CV because they increase my giveaway slots, meaning I can give away even more games.

I'm pretty new here so I didn't know to much about CV except that you needed some for certain giveaways. I didn't even care about it that much until the first two pages were covered in Just Cause. I then saw the greediness you mentioned. I'm fine with the way it is now. Again I'm new, so any improvements that can be made to the system is something I haven't noticed yet.
