A very extreme example but you have a good point. However, I think the chance of that happening is small enough that it's worth looking into taking steps to stop people from flooding the giveaways with free games.
When people abuse free games, it causes publishers to rethink gifting their games. It's already caused Humble to change they way they do bundles.

like publishers check this site, get real, the only ones that do are small indie devs looking for greenlight votes. Humble changed their key distribution due to huge amount of reselling that happened.
They were/are what you could already call "small buisnesses" that resell those keys even now, it just became harder.

Just because you can do something doesn't mean you should. And when you start putting CV requirements on a game you got for free, I personally think you've definitely crossed over a line.

This being said, If the moderation team wanted to deal with this they could add the rule of no games that are given away free, and/or add it to the bundle list.. or even remove it from the list all together.
Bad taste =|= against the rules.

ok but that's your thought or mine or sb else but no site rules so don't say site is broken and YOU have to take steps not to look at it.
Moreover as big as it is annoying when people give awaya 10 keys from small GA batches like 100 or 1k keys, you get points thanks to this

What i don't understand is why people still entering those giveaway when they know it's free?

That would be like reading the thread to see if the topic had already been covered so you don't repeat comments and miss replies. Crazy talk is crazy.

Whatever is done it needs to be done uniformly and not however the mod online at the time sees fit

The main justification for punishing this seems to be to protect the CV system. In my view, the CV system has plenty of other issues which make it a terrible way to judge someone's actual contribution to the site/community, and isn't particularly worth protecting. It's also unfair to assume everyone giving these away is doing it for personal gain - some people will miss these free offers, or aren't valid to take part in them in the first place, and there's no harm in giving them another chance to get them here.
What I would encourage is that anyone posting a game which is currently available freely somewhere should also include a link to the offer, so that those who are able to take part can do so and the giveaway prize is more likely to go to someone who couldn't have just got the free game themself. Of course, there are a number of issues with that - the most obvious being that it'll cause even more people to claim free keys and post them as giveaways - but I think it would promote a happier and healthier attitude towards this kind of thing, instead of people throwing insults at members who probably meant well.

CV is a horrible idea for a site that promotes giving games for the sake of giving. But since the creators/maintainers of the site want it in place (and I've seen a few good reasons for CV) I'm just suggesting a way to lessen abuse.
I do see a reason for giveaways of free games like social media requirements to obtain that game. However, giveaways of free games is horribly abused right now. And when you add in giveaways for free games with CV requirements for entry, I think it's taken a step beyond even reasonable.
Yes, I could use filters and scripts to ignore those giveaways but I'd rather suggest ways to fix what I see as problems instead of ignoring them.
By talking about a problem and suggesting improvements, changes and rules, we encourage healthy dialog and no longer have to bury our heads in the sand. Several people have already taken my suggestion and improved upon it (like negative CV value for free games).

Because ignoring what we see as problems, no matter how small or trivial is lazy and just leads to larger problems.

Well thank you everyone for a great dialog. Very few people felt the need to throw insults around or make spam comments. It's great that we could talk constructively about this but without mod/developer input it is just a good conversation. I have things to do with my day so I will be closing this thread if the close button works. Again, thank you for all who participated. Especially those who did so constructively whether you agreed with me or not.

So every time someone gives a game away for free we end up with a huge number of give-a-ways for that game. Would a seven day ban for people creating give-a-ways for free games stop this flood of greed? How about a lifetime ban for people who make CV required give-a-ways for these free games?
