What controller do you think is the best for PC gaming?
I personally bought a Thrustmaster GPX LightBack. Haven't had any issue with it so far, and you even have light indicators showing you how hard you're pressing the triggers which can be useful for games that require finesse.

This actually looks better than the official 360 controller. So if I'm reading the feature section right, the light indicators are used for the analog stick right?
Comment has been collapsed.
Ah, I see. Considering that it's marketed as an Official 360 controller, you ever had any problems while using it for PC?
Comment has been collapsed.
I might be interested on this lol. Does the D-Pad feel clunky like the official 360 ones? Also, how long have you owned it?
Comment has been collapsed.
Alright, good to know that it's better than the regular ol' 360 controller. Thanks for the information.

The question depends on what games you intend to play. If you want a hassle-free experience, get a controller with Xinput support, which includes thinks like the later Logitech controllers and the 360/One controllers. If you intend to play a lot of 2D platformers and such avoid the 360 controller, it has a terrible D-pad, but if you intend to play a lot of 3D games with your controller, then a 360 controller will likely serve you better than a modern Logitech controller, as the sticks are a bit better.
Comment has been collapsed.
I probably won't use controllers for playing 2D games, in that case I'll probably go for 360/One controller then. Is One more worth it than 360? Also, what Logitech controllers would you recommend?
Comment has been collapsed.
I mostly use this one. It has X Input, Vibration, a Design similar to the X360 one AND a good D-Pad. I have it for 3 years now and so far I am really happy with it.
Edit: Ah I'm sorry, that's not exactly the one I have. It's the one one bludshade already posted: Thrustmaster GPX LightBack. Almost the same thing though ;)

I use a Logitech F710, which has a considerably better D-pad than the 360 controller. It's not perfect, but it's a lot better. I also find it better than the D-buttons on the PS3 controller. Sadly I've yet to find a D-pad as good as that on Nintendo controllers.
Comment has been collapsed.
I'm more used to the usual analog rather than the track pad the Steam controllers use lol. Furthermore, it's still not available in my country yet.
Comment has been collapsed.
Yeah, the 360 controller feels great. In fact, I'm considering to get it since the MOGA Power Pro I have is also similar to 360 controllers. And thanks for the suggestion, will keep that in mind if I've ever had any problems in a problematic game.
Comment has been collapsed.
Why you don't recommend the PC version? In my country it is cheaper and it get discounted more often.
The only disadvantage I see is that its wired.
Comment has been collapsed.
Ok, here in Mexico they only sell the wired PC version, that costs $500 pesos (25usd), a 360 costs $700 pesos (35usd). I think this could be because here Xbox is more popular than Playstation and mexicans dont usually do a research before buying :P

I love dualshock 3. But mine has a problem with d-pad and activates randomly.
So 2 weeks ago I bought a XBOX ONE Controller with WIFI adaptor (promo: 45€). Still getting used to it, but It's very solid. Seems really good to me. The only problem is that it uses batteries. But rechargable ones can be a good upgrade, or a chargeable battery.
I bought this because I already tried DS4 and didn't like it.

Back when I still have a PS2, I've had several problems with DS2. Not sure if it was because of the wire but the analog seems to deactivate randomly whenever there's a vibration. That makes me a bit reluctant to get another DS controller. I might get the Xbox One controller eventually, but the price tag is still 2 times higher than the 360 one lol.
Comment has been collapsed.
My DS2 didn't had those problems. And my DS3 had them only after 4/5 years of constant use.
I was always sony all the way. But a bit of change isn't that bad. XBOX ONE controller feels way different, because of the shape and the analog localization. But for me it was the right choice.
You can always buy, try, and return to the shop, or not?

As far as I know, there's little to no official resellers at all in my country. I'll be studying abroad in a few months and will be able to do so though.

I personally have a 360 controller.
Every review for it probably will tell you the same thing, the D-pad ain't great but that really isn't that much of an issue except if you want to play fighting games with that controller.
Of course, it's pretty handy that most of the time, it just works.
Also, I often see people praise the Logitech controllers but I couldn't compare them since I have only owned the 360.

For some reason, I can't see myself playing fighting games with a D-Pad. It makes my finger hurt after prolonged play.
Is wired better than wireless?
Comment has been collapsed.
Yeah, it can hurt more but it's more precise too :p
I have it wired, I personally have no use for wireless so I went with this one because it's slightly cheaper and because I didn't want to have to deal with the battery, the cable is pretty long (9 feet or 3 meters) so you can also use it on the couch or whatnot easily.
Comment has been collapsed.
Since you have both of them, which one is better and more comfortable? Most people said that 360's price tag make it more worth it if you don't own an Xbox console.
Comment has been collapsed.
360 is a little bulkier and heavier ( I got the wired version), bumpers are easier to press than on the xbox one, they have a weird design on ONE, you have to press the outer part or it doesn't register as a button press. Also the d-pad on 360 is rubbish compared to the xbox one version.
Only issue I had with the 360 is that the rubber on the sticks completely deteriorated (guess that's normal since I used it quite a bit), also the cable is showing signs of the same deterioration as the rubber, guess it's only a matter of time.
I bought the xbox one gamepad with rechargeable batteries, wireless adapter and cord, the controller feels better in your hand, it's lighter than the 360 and as I said the d-pad is much better. Works without issues on win10. The sticks are also better designed, they are textured for a better grip.
Overall both are great, but I've heard something that the xbox one might not work unless you have windows 10, for example I had to connect my gamepad with the wire provided to update it through their windows store, otherwise the wireless adapter couldn't find it. (this is probably due to the fact that I bought the gamepad when it launched and the adapter came out later so it needed the update.)
PS: I tried the PS4 controller once, all I can say is that after 30 minutes my hands started to hurt...

One's controller sounds better than 360, if not for its price tag. The OS issue shouldn't be a problem at all to me, but the Windows Store part sounds troublesome (didn't actually bothered to use it lol). Thanks for making the detailed comparison!

Logitech F710 is the best I played so far with. It is heavy weight, but very good.

I'm more inclined to using the usual analog rather than the track pad the Steam controllers use lol. Furthermore, the controller itself is still not available to be bought in my country yet, even though it might actually be manufactured in China.

'Assembled in the USA', but you can guess where the parts come from.

The Steam Controller is so versatile you can use it as you please with the user-made settings. Analog, trackpad, and even one-handed settings (for those.. special games). I'd personally highly recommend it over the classic controllers, if you can get your hands on one that is.
Comment has been collapsed.
Still, isn't it a substitute for KB+M? While it might be usable as a controller, wasn't it marketed for playing mouse exclusive games such as Civ and Cities Skyline on a Steam Link?
Comment has been collapsed.
Marketed as such, yes, because it's its unique selling point. But I'm yet to come across a game that's completely unplayable with one.
Comment has been collapsed.
I was skeptical of the Steam Controller, but curious enough to buy one. My PS3, PS4, XBONE, and X360 controllers have all sat unused since I got it 6 months ago. Even in games that are designed for controllers, it's still way more functional. I like to use the paddles on the back for starting video capture and taking screenshots, for example. If you really embrace all that it's capable of, there's really no comparison to standard controllers.

Xbox One by far.
X360 is also okay.
Personally, I use both regulary.
Comment has been collapsed.
Does the D-Pad feel clunky though? By the newer version, did you mean the controller of XBone S?
I actually prefer an Xbox controller to a DS because of how it feels on my hand.

One's d-pad when compared to the regular 360 controller.

The Xbox One controller's DPad is much better than the Xbox 360's. Easier to press correctly without looking and has a better feel.
There are three types of Xbox One controllers:
I'm using the original wireless Xbox One controller and it is still 10 times better than the Xbox 360.
And by the way, you can use ANY wireless Xbox One controller on your PC through a microUSB cable. So you can have the option of going wired or wirelessly without issue.
Comment has been collapsed.
I'll be picking up a pair of cheap wireless PS3 dual shocks soon. Personally I can't go past the grip, most feel too fat in teh hand... gotta have fingers that can snip snappity snap, nah mean
Comment has been collapsed.
I've only used Xbox 360, DualShock 3 and some other controllers from Logitech, Xbox 360 is my favorite so far.
Comment has been collapsed.
The Xbox One. It is compatible with every game that was compatible with the Xbox 360 controller and it is indeed much better than its predecesor.
While the Xbox One controllers are wireless, you can use ANY microUSB cable to use it on the PC.
If price's an issue, then just get a wired Xbox 360 controller instead.

Some questions regarding 360 controllers, since I'm not familiar with it. If by any chance I actually decide to buy a 360 controller, will I need to buy a wireless adapter if I wanted to use it wirelessly for PC? If not, can I use a built-in bluetooth connection to connect with the controller?
Comment has been collapsed.
To use a Xbox 360 controller you will need:
if wired, you will need a Wired Xbox 360 Controller. (And no, you can't simply use a cable with a wireless x360 controller)
if wirelessly, you will need a Wireless Xbox 360 Controller and a PC Xbox 360 wireless receiver
To use a Xbox One controller:
if wired, you will need a Wireless Xbox One Controller and a microUSB cable
if wirelessly, you will need a Wireless Xbox One Controller and a Wireless Xbox One PC Adapter
for use with Bluetooth, you will need a Wireless Xbox One S controller and a PC that has got Windows 10 Anniversary Update and any Bluetooth receiver
Comment has been collapsed.
For these reasons, I'm more inclined to get a One controller now. So if I want to use either the 360 or One controller wirelessly, I have to buy the official adapter, then? If so, I'll probably wait till Xbox One S launches lol. Thanks for the clarification!
Comment has been collapsed.
Indeed, and glad I could help! And I think the Xbox One S controller launches on the 2nd of August.
And as I said, you will need a PC with a Bluetooth adapter and the Anniversary update of Windows 10.
Comment has been collapsed.
Yes, I do have a PC with built-in Bluetooth Adapter. Due to that, buying the wireless adapter just to use the controller wirelessly isn't worth it to me if I could get my hands on the One S controller. :p
Comment has been collapsed.
If you can, get an XBOX ONE Elite controller. It's far superior and it'll fix your D-Pad issues at all times, and is highly customisable.
Comment has been collapsed.
I personally use a 360 controller. It works really well for about every game I want to play with it. And with the native support in windows, it's really easy to use as well. Just plug it in and start playing. I've seen some people here say that the D-pad is not good, but honestly, I have not seen any game yet that uses it a lot. Usually in games you have to press it occasionally to activate something or something like that and in those cases, it works just fine. I've not had any issues so far.
Comment has been collapsed.
Indeed. The only game that gave me trouble because of the 360's Dpad was the Batman Arkham series because of having to press two directions at the same time.
But still, the xOne's is indeed way more comfortable when you get a hold of it.

So, I've had no experiences whatsoever with controllers for PC. Several games that I wanted to play supports controllers better than the classic KB+M control scheme. Because of that, I tried using an Android controller (MOGA PRO Power) that I already own. It's still usable for emulators but most games on Steam; save for Valve games, just won't recognize the controller at all even after using x360ce. Now that I've given up on trying to use MOGA PRO Power, I decided that I would buy a controller for PC by the end of this year.
I'm thinking that it'd be a good idea to buy a 360/One controller since Windows has a native support for them. Furthermore, controller supported games on Steam should have little to no problems at all with those two controllers. Is it worth it to buy an Xbox controller even though I don't have the console? If not, what's the best one to buy? I would appreciate any suggestions you make.
