What controller do you think is the best for PC gaming?
I have a DS3, because of the PS3, so i'm using that for pc as well, isn't officially supported, but there is a driver that works perfectly (even wireless, but it's a bit tricky if you want to use it with the built-in Bluetooth, no problems with a BT Dongle), if you like the PS style, you can buy it safely, the driver tricks Windows, and for it, it will be like a normal X360 controller, works with every game, and has a better d-pad too, and fine analogs (i think the DS4 is generally better, but didn't have a PS4, just tried a couple of times).
If you want the simple way, just buy the X360 pad, i hate the XOne's RB/LT "clicky" buttons.
P.S. The PS driver name is "SCPToolkit" by Nefarius (NOT motioninjoy, gives BSoD), just google it, i'm not sure if i can put the link here.

The bumper buttons of the Xbox One controller were fixed with the release of the revised controllers (the ones that comes with the 3.5mm jack).
Still, I've never had an issue with them.

It was just a strange feeling after the "normal" buttons, didn't know it changed, it was the old one then, thanks:)

No prob, what was wrong with the original controller's RB and LB buttons is that they were designed to be pressed using the middle part of your index fingers, making trying to use them with your tips awkward.
So yeah, now you are able to click them as you wish in the new versions.

The Xbox One, Xbox 360 and Steam controllers support both Xinput and Dinput as far as I'm aware.

I have the Xbox 360 controller for at least 3 years. It's running exactly as it did in day one. No issues whatsoever. Also, after using the xpadder software ... i decided to buy the Controller Companion from Steam. Best choices i've made regarding a peripheral acquisition and software.

Oh, and by the way, if you purchase a Xbox One controller and use it wirelessly, or a Steam controller; Steam Big Picture shows the current level of their batteries by going into Settings > Add/Test Controller at any time.

personally hate throwing $ at microsoft so i went with Steelseries Stratus XL works the same as the xbox 360 controller, dxinputs just fine to anything and everything the xbox controller would and same level of plug and play as it as well.

It seems nice and all seeing that it's Steelseries, but is there no wired version at all? It seems a hassle to change the battery regularly.

i dont recommend their wired version.. i litterally just yesterday ran to bestbuy and bought their $20 wired version of it and already ran into problems getting it to connect to emulator software that my wireless version connected with flawlessly. steelseries 3gc not even listed or searchable on their website anymore is how unsupported the wired version is though.
edit/addon 7/29>> if you want wired and just want to avoid MS/xbox i would probably try the logitech one a cple ppl have menioned already. bestbuy had that as well for only a few bucks more and i wish i would of chosen that one for my wife instead of the 3gc.. but for wireless i havent had any issues with my stratus xl =)
update 7/30>>> after much more toying around i finally got the 3gc to connect to the emulator software i was running via the mode changer that i didnt know about with changing dx/x inputs & programmed the keys into the software.. (that feature is also on the logitech 310/710 's) none of that was needed to be done with the stratux xl though, it just worked without setup.

Somehow the Logitech one looks even bulkier than DualShock controllers lol. But I'll keep that in mind.
Speaking of the micro usb port, is it only used for the firmware update? It seems kinda half-hearted not to include the wired mode as well. The battery life sounds good though.

stratus xl>
and idk how important support is for you but ive even gotten firmware updates for the hardware a cple times now.. it has a micro usb port behind the battery section to wire it to usb for firmware updates..
as for battery life it is extremely good about falling asleep and saving battery life after sitting idle for some time and the 4hr advertised feels more like 2-3days really.. they really mean 4hours of raw using it non-stop and even that seems a bit lower then what i seem to get out of it.

I don't have a PSP, but thanks for the info regardless.

Generally I would recommend a Logitech F310 since I HATE the 360 feel, but the 360 is the single most compatible gamepad you can get. Even the XBone gamepad isn;t as compatible due to issues with a lot of games.

I have two wireless 360 controllers I used with my HTPC and one wired one I sometimes used with my laptop (plus another wireless one used for the 360). They work well, and allow me to purchase most 360 games on the PC instead. I have no experience with other controllers.

I love the 360 pad for most stuff, but I've been getting into the Steam Controller too. The analogue stick is fantastic. Not really used the D-pad yet, and I can see the giant footprint making it a bit weird for some games. But I guess like most Steam Controller stuff it probably takes some getting used to :)

I haven't tried the Steam Controller yet, but since I'm more used to playing with an analog stick, the trackpad doesn't seem comfortable to me lol. Playing an FPS with it might be great, but nothing beats the feel of a real analog stick to me. :)

I can recommed the Xbox One controller. I have been using it for a little over 2 years and i am happy with it. It's robust, the buttons feel great when pressing them and the d-pad is great. It's a bit on the heavier side, but even then it's comfortable to use for longer gaming sessions.
The X360 controller is also a good and cheap choice. My only gripe with it is the abysmal d-pad, otherwise the controller is nice.
I hope my input helped in deciding what to get. :3

I might get xOne controller provided I can get one for a cheaper price. Have you ever found any issues with games while using it so far? Thanks for the input!

So far, I've only used Logitech controller and XBox controller.
At first, I bought F710 Logitech, as I thought that it has Xinput and smallest USB receiver. But then, as the game progress, I feel that it's a little clunky, and the shoulder button feels a bit harder to push. Especially when I used it for racing games or aiming on action games, my hand will be tired for sometime.
Then, I bought XBox controller wireless, actually I don't like the receiver, but the feels, the control, the buttons on the controller are so much different.
Downside is, Logitech F710 have so much better battery life than the XBox counterpart.

I'm more inclined towards comfort rather than battery life, to be honest. I'll probably choose an Xbox controller.
You're right, the 360 receiver is a bit on the bigger side; One is better on that part though.

I have been using a wired XBOX 360 controller for 2 or 3 years now. I have had no problems with the controller. Don't really know anything about other controllers. Have heard good things about the Steam controller but can't say anything for sure. Not much experience with controllers, all I can recommend is a XBOX 360 controller because it was recommended to me, and it's the only one I've used.
Hope you find a good controller. Good Luck. :)

Steam controllers aren't available in my country yet, so there's nothing I can do to get an official one. xD
Thanks for the suggestion!

You might find XBOX 360 pad cheaper now as the XBOX ONE is out and it's a really awesome pad, plug and play with every device.
Howerver, the XBOX ONE pad is a level above it, might be a bit more expensive but worth it.
I have both and I feel the XBOX ONE pad more confy.

Alright, thanks for the suggestion.
Still deciding on those two controllers though lol.

If budget is not a problem, take XBOX ONE.
Better even take both :p
Comment has been collapsed.
Well that seems quite a plausible choice. :o
Battery-wise, which one wins?
Comment has been collapsed.
The Xbox One is indeed better in every single aspect.
(Except for the fact that it does not blink to alert you that the battery's low.)

You ever found any issues with games so far though? Several people have said that there might be some issues while gaming on PC (particularly old games) using the xOne controller.
Comment has been collapsed.
Only with Telltale games, since they use a different driver version you're unable to use the right trigger in therm.
But you can solve it by either using the left trigger or A instead, or installing the older driver for the Xbox One controller.

I guess if there were any issues with the xOne pad, there would be a workaround. Good to know that at least it's still reliable, thanks!

For some reason those two controllers always struck me as kinda bulky on the images lol.
I presume it's actually similar to DS3 in size?

Looks pretty good. Any issues with it so far? And how does the d-pad feel compared to the regular ol' 360 controller?
Comment has been collapsed.
Not quite the Nintendo quality d-pad I'm looking for, but that's probably good enough; the d-pad isn't used that much in games anyways. Thanks for the suggestion.

I picked up the steam controller in the last sale and I've been really happy with it thus far.

I use an X360 controller for my PC gaming, and I don't have an Xbox of any type. I would suggest getting and XB1 controller though since it is a bit more advanced (especially in gaming) and X360 controllers are becoming harder to find now that X360s are no longer being built.
Also, I would suggest getting a third-party controller since those are much less expensive for equal quality. I would suggest Rock Candy since it come in many colors and I have personally used them and they work great :)

The last two show a full listing of colors on Amazon in case the first two aren't good enough colors :)
Hope this helps.

I actually prefer the regular design instead of the see-through appearance these controllers have.
Thanks for the suggestion, nevertheless. :)

The xbox 360 and xbox One controllers are really good for pc gaming, but if you want to go third party, I recommend Logitech.

So, I've had no experiences whatsoever with controllers for PC. Several games that I wanted to play supports controllers better than the classic KB+M control scheme. Because of that, I tried using an Android controller (MOGA PRO Power) that I already own. It's still usable for emulators but most games on Steam; save for Valve games, just won't recognize the controller at all even after using x360ce. Now that I've given up on trying to use MOGA PRO Power, I decided that I would buy a controller for PC by the end of this year.
I'm thinking that it'd be a good idea to buy a 360/One controller since Windows has a native support for them. Furthermore, controller supported games on Steam should have little to no problems at all with those two controllers. Is it worth it to buy an Xbox controller even though I don't have the console? If not, what's the best one to buy? I would appreciate any suggestions you make.
