Hi Everybody,
My kaspersky Internet security 2014 subscription is about to end, only a few days left. The last few updates has made my PC slow. I would like to know what Internet securities do you use. What would you guys recommend.

                                                                              Thank You.

In windows 8.1 you have Windows Defender with MSE built in already. Common user don't need anything else!

Comodo is such a crap... Had it pre-installed on my old laptop. It stopped working after a week when I didn't even use my computer once (because of being sick). After 1 week I turned on my computer for first time and it didn't even work. It's such a shit...

Apparently they have a free and a paid version now. I got it free when it was only free, and it had full features. Now, its pay to have features. This is perhaps what you have. I still have the installer for the completely free version with all features :P

If you want a fast antivirus it's either Avast or Avira. I prefer Avast.

I use the AV version of Kaspersky (no firewall) and Comodo Firewall on the side which is free.

If you install Kaspersky AV now it'll give you 1 month for free.. you can see if it's still too slow for you or not. I dunno where you live but here I grab a copy on sale every year at some point for 10$ (3 PCs).

Avast is glitching for Windows 8. Lots of people can't connect to internet when they install Avast on Windows 8 and Windows 8.1. Maybe something has changed in last months but I had same problem. Now I use Windows Defender that's built in Windows 8 and it's good enough for me.

Dont install 2014 version, use the 2013 one. The key from 2014 works . They made some bad "improvements" in KIS2014, especially it slows you down on win 8/8.1

I've been using and recommending MSE since it first came out, waaay back when I still worked in IT (2008?). It probably isn't as bulletproof as the paid pro offerings (of which I'd take Norton anyday, though I'm biased because I already know how to use their admin tools. CA was a nightmare to deal with) but I've never had any trouble with it and it has a very small resource footprint. It's honestly one of my favorite pieces of software microsoft has ever put out.

Basically for a home user whatever free option works best for you without slowing down your machine will be fine, just use a little common sense with your web browsing and always keep backups of anything you couldn't bear to lose.

MSE has always worked fine for me, until recently sometimes the full scan goes unbelievably slow (most of the time it runs fine though). Cant figure out what the issue is, but its annoying.

I use Ubuntu Linux...

Anyway, when I recommend Windows users free virus busters and firewalls, I usually prefer Avast! anti-virus and Comodo firewall.
(the latest core updates to the Avast! made it a bit dumber... so I might search another anti-virus to recommend, though)

Avast Free!

Good enough for common user if you don't go look for trouble yourself. And don't go with MSE because it's virus definitions sometimes don't update in time and it still can't get certificate that Kaspersky, Avast, Eset and many other AV software can get without any problems.

No it isn't and no it didn't, they already say it them selfs plenty of times, MB does not detect many kinds of viruses because it's not made to, it is targeted at specific kinds, what they added was a real-time protection, which means that you dont need to do a scan for it to detect them, it doesn't make it an anti-virus...

"It is true that Malwarebytes Anti-Malware is not designed to replace your antivirus"

"You must realize that MBAM has a limited target list"

"Yes, you should use AV with MBAM. MBAM is a complementary Anti-Malware solution to a fully installed Anti-Virus application"

"No it does not replace your anti-virus it is made to run along side your anti-virus. Keep both and run both in real time MBAM is made to run with your anti-virus with no problem"

"Malwarebytes Anti-Malware is not meant to be a replacement for antivirus software. Malwarebytes Anti-Malware is a complementary but essential program which detects and removes zero-day malware and "Malware in the Wild". This includes malicious programs and files, such as virus droppers, worms, trojans, rootkits, dialers, spyware, and rogue applications that many antivirus programs do not detect or cannot fully remove. That being said, there are many infections that Malwarebytes Anti-Malware does not detect or remove which any antivirus software will, such as file infectors. It is important to note that Malwarebytes Anti-Malware works well and should run alongside antivirus software without conflicts. In some rare instances, exclusions may need to be set for your specific antivirus product to achieve the best possible system performance."
