I hear it was something like 600 US so that is a big no, specially where i live the price goes double.

I tried it last year, and was amazed by the experience. Absolutely want it, but a lot depends on the price. If it's really 600, as Kazz says, I'd have to go with "no" for now.

No. Wait until the price drops, which shouldn't be that long, really.

No. The thing about the Oculus Rift is, other people have to program compatibility in. You don't get anything with just an Oculus plugged into your computer. There are some games you can play with it, but not enough in my opinion.

If you wan't to be a beta tester, sure, buy it.

But seriously, I think you should wait. It will get cheaper and you will be able to check actual users opinions. Don't let the hype overcome you.

I was all hyped up about it earlier last year, but honestly, there isn't that much that supports it yet.

I do have a few favorites (like 7 days to die) that claim they plan on it, but I think I'll wait until I see some "this works great for (insert favorite game)" comments first.

And likely it'll price drop at least a little in the interim

It's way too early for it to become something enjoyable.

Wait for at least 2 more years.

I'm going to wait until the HTC Vive comes out and get that, as long as its less than $300.

Valve and HTC said it's going to be a premium segment and they aren't planning to pull low price. We have to wait at least 2-4 years before well made VR (not a phone in the carton box) becomes affordable enough for masses and gets higher support as well on hardware side (better optimization, less resourceful, since now it requites really tough PC to demonstrate the originally planned potential). Though Sony has already stated releasing quite a number of exclusives for Morpheus this year, but still, it's too early.

I'm personally waiting for Valve and HTC to do their presentation on the Vive headset at CES this week. Someone on Reddit claimed to have uncovered pics of the redesigned headset and motion controllers.

Don't get baited. They're pushing out preorders before HTC Vive gets a chance specifically to get sales out to people who just can't wait to get their hands on VR. HTC is going to be a huge competitor, and in my opinion, has a lot more potential. Even if it doesn't turn out to be better, it's be incredibly unwise not to at least wait and find out before you regret one of the probably most expensive purchases of the year.

I must say actualy it is not worth if you want to do other things as having sex with it.
Pornoindustry is fast but not the gamingindustry and so it will need longer time that good games will be released for the VR.
In this time the price will drop and maybe a better version will be released.

Oh and i don´t have the money for pc upgrade and VR actualy so i can´t buy it now but i will 100% buy it. (in the next 1-5 years)
I mean it cost over 1000€ to the upgrade with VR and the price for both will drop.

try it first... i've tried dk1 & dk2 several times in the past year, unfortunately couldnt get a spot to try 'dk4' with the touch controllers (a near final prototype after crescent bay)

how did you like the dk2 from your experience?

barely tried it, at first it was ghosting but there was some software calibration that fixed it (lolwut)

most of my experience is on dk1, but overall it's all the same... head tracking, it's nice but it's still a virtual screen in a virtual world with the same (reduced actually) graphics

i'm more interested in using VR to let people with lazy or cross eyes to virtually recalibrate them so they can experience the 3d pop effect for the first time in their life, or how about real world 360 camera footage, 360 documentaries (i tried a couple, one was arctic canada, another was walking through tokyo), & the excitement for me is a demand for more gpu power alongside with finally getting 14/16nm after being stuck on 28nm for so long, oh i just remembered the full body device that lets you walk & run on it while wearing goggles, now THAT is immersion (i was going to get to try that but the event cancelled)

it's like the head tracking part isnt going to hook me that much since i'm always controlling mouse aim so fast with such precision, it's only going to 'wow' average people that struggle with controls or controllers

i'll get some VR eventually... though i dont have the hardware performance for it yet... it's almost a guarantee that i will try developing for it too, the other thing i want is each eye getting its own camera to make some crazy hallucinations, sign me up for vomit simulator, seriously... cuz i dont feel any discomfort so far (halflife2 was in fact irritating, i was using wasd for movement, i also had a mouse for adjusting aim, almost like some kind of vehicle where i can turn my head from inside, other people would supposedly feel sick due to 'the camera moves but your real life body doesnt' part)

just fyi, the price is $600

Red flag right there. At least for a lot of people that's quite expensive, specially for a peripheral. In the end it depends of the use you're going to give and the % of your monthly income that $600 is to have a better grasp if it's worth it for you.

But to the rest of us... the poll is saying NO.

It's really pricey. I think it's better to wait for reviews and stuff, jumping on the hype train might not be worth it at the end of the day.

However i recommend getting Adr1ft if anyone is buying it, i'm pretty sure it will turn out as an amazing experience with VR.

I have feeling that it's gonna be just like Kinect when it was first released, useless and overhyped.
But at least Kinect wasn't 600$ so it was worth a shot.
Edit:

Every pre-order of the Rift includes a headset, sensor, rift remote, cables, Xbox controller, EVE: Valkyrie, & Lucky’s Tale.

I just saw this and it's not that bad, I mean you get a xbox controller, 2 games and all the crap that goes with rift. But still I don't think it will be that good in the begining and you should get it only if you're rich :D

they are trying to lock games exclusively for their headset, say what you want, still a dick move, i hate exclusives on consoles, i hate them even more for a niche market as VR Headsets.

699 Euro is a BIT much for me ( my whole PC is worth less actually... ). So nope for me. Maybe in 4-5 years when there are a lot of companies making VRs and they are cheaper.
