Monday, August 17th. 12:00 CET. It's over.

I took a peek behind the curtains, and now they're breaking down my door.

Live well, unlike me, toodles~

So I got this friend request from nowhere... I check the guy out and it doesn't look like a bot so I accept it. Immediately he messages me and tries this shtick on me:

steam chat 1

So now I know I'm dealing with a scammer, so I try to have some fun with him and maybe learn more about how scams come to be.

He must be very naive because he actually believed me I was "one of them" so I try to play it cool and find out more "them".

steam chat 2

This is getting little weird now but I play along and he's now convinced we're friends so I try to make him spill his beans:

steam chat 2

Hook, line, and sinker!!!

I really got him talking about all the stuff that goes "behind the curtain". It would take dozens of screenshots to tell you about it so I made explaining images.

first scheme
First scheme he's eager to tell me all about. You gotta admire their creativity and it makes you understand just why they got so many people fooled.

Then I manipulated him into telling me all sorts of things, and after some research and contacting some strange people I got this method to identify these

individuals:
The method

In order to do their foul deeds they need to store data somewhere, right? But authorities are quite quick in shutting any rogue server down.. so those clever bastards devised this scheme:
second scheme

It's... so simple and yet so complex.

Then we talked about Steam itself for some time, during which some facts became obvious:
Obvious stuff

However I must admit I wasn't as sly as I thought I were, because he caught on and before he suddenly blocked me he sent me a picture of NSFW a man spreading his anus wide open NSFW it's so bizzare... like there's the wedding ring and... I dunno. Sorry I had to link you to this but I had to share. It's disgusting and intriguing at the same time.

So yeah, talking to these "scammers" can sometimes make you stumble upon something mind-blowing!

That's my scammer story, thank you for reading.

The best thing to do for exchanges, is if you use sites like Csgolounge, is to request that you send your exchange offer and reject it or make a counteroffer what you send and there no risk of being scammed

It's interesting that you used the word "prey" in the title (which I'm absolutely certain was purely unintentional, of course). That happens to be the name of a game which was removed from Steam. Coincidence? Or conspiracy?

It's a common expression in English. And yes, being scammed means you "fell prey to" a scammer.
I'm assuming the capitolized P is a warning sign that lizards may be monitoring this thread a basic typo. There's no conspiracy here.
