Depends on the DLC and the game. What I would love to see would be more cheap standalone DLCs like FC3: Blood Dragon that are still full games.

For me, it depends mostly on the way the DLC was marketed. If the DLC was an actual after thought to the game and they released it as additional content, and the content is actually worth it. Then I'll probably think about buying it.
However, if its a blatant excuse to sell you part of the game they've not included on release, then I'll make sure I don't buy the DLC and in many cases I won't even bother with the actual game.
Other times, the game is great and the DLC is an after thought but the execution is so poor, its not even worth buying and should have been released as a patch like PC gamers were used to before the console money racket started with DLC.
EA with their Sims 3 is a prime example. Their base game from the outset was designed to have DLC, that's a given. Additional content was released and continues to be released weekly by EA along with expansions for the game. However, both the expansion DLC, stuff pack DLC and general store DLC items are bugged most of the time to the point you have to go to dodgy sites to get the most basic of things, such as corner units, to actually fit in the corners properly. Very poor quality of DLC.
And then on the other hand, we have DLC where its cosmetic vs over power. I tend not to buy games where DLC is offered that gives another play an advantage in the game unless it can be also earned by playing the game. Two good examples where this happens is Tribes: ascend and Saint's row 3. All the DLC you can buy (weapons etc) can be unlocked by playing the game anyway. Additional content that is cosmetic I don't really mind.
Mostly though, I just don't like being ripped off and having the games spoiled for me.

Tribes: Ascend doesn't offer DLC as its free-to-play, just microtransactions.

I agree 100%. Plus, I remember several years ago when games had no DLC at all hahah
Personally, I prefer story DLC and I stay away from cosmetic DLC (at least most of the times).
Also, I decided not to buy certain games because they had way too many DLC for my taste...

+1, way too many money grabbing companys who try to sell worthless dlc for big bucks

Several years ago DLC were as huge addons. Nowdays there's no quality addons...

I agree 100%. I prefer to buy GOTY editions / complete editions with all DLC even if it is stuff I will probably never use, like a pointless skin pack, because I feel that I need everything released for a full experience. If I don't get the GOTY edition, I will only buy DLC that is good value for money or an actual expansion.

Exactly, with Skyrim since I bough it around release time (still on sale though) I only bought the Dawnguard & Dragonborn expansions, Hearthfire didn't seem worth my time, though I recommend anyone that doesn't have it yet to just wait for the Legendary Edition that contains it all.

*Pre order now to get exclusive, super-duper-wubwub-awesum OP stuff dlc which isn't available to anyone else!**
(Which totally isn't already on the game disc, and we'll call it piracy if you unlock it, even though you already own it)
*Available for download two days after release for 1200MSP

I never buy any skins/items/multiplayer packs but sometimes I get a decent story expansion for a game I already played and liked (or a complete edition of a game I don't have yet but I know the DLCs are good). I wouldn't preorder a game to get a DLC though.

The worst ones are where you're basically forced to purchase them - don't have a good example right now other than Space Marine. If you're playing Multiplayer and the game about to start is for a map where you do not have the DLC for, you're BOOTED RIGHT OUT OF MATCH MAKING... even if you've just played 5 straight rounds with the same ppl, etc... then if you try to join a new game, it can try to match you into the same game you were just booted out of...

Better to wait for GOTY, Gold, Platinum or alikes, then you won't feel scammed and that may miss something. And yes...day 1 DLCs (even real expansions) are simple ripoffs.

Horse Armor was the best DLC ever made! I want my horse shin guard DLC next!

i usually don't buy DLCs
don't really feel like i'm missing out

And then there will be next expansion with new DLCs? -)

Darksiders is a very good example of that. So many DLCs that came in the pack with cheated weapons, that the game became easy. I might try it on hard to have a real experience. So far (around 11 hours in the game), it's been a walk in the park.

DLC is cool if it introduces a large amount of new stuff, like expansions, new places to visit, quests etc... the only DLC i really hate is like special weapons, ski packs for single player games and other money grabbing shit like that =/ it's so prominent now that PC is going to be like IOS in a few years time with games costing full price but thousands of "in-app" purchases... sad really =[

for me anything with day 1 dlc or a ton of dlc I decide I can do without or wait awhile for. I either don't buy or get the goty/complete/whatever edition later. Theres enough other games I don't have or haven't played yet that I can play in the meantime somehow I got about a year behind on releases. And I had heard most of the impact on funding for sequels comes from first day buys so its their own fault. This system has pretty much killed any drive I ever had to preorder things too(preorder only dlc doesn't help it makes it worse where I refuse to encourage that and end up going without. besides it tends to become available later anyway if I actually wanted it).
a couple games I've gone out of my way to make sure I bought complete edition 2nd hand rather than from the producers because of on disk dlc and/or preorder crap and I didn't want them to get a cent or it.
I refuse to buy and tend to avoid the company entirely if possible when I see dlc for something that was blatantly chopped from the game to be sold as dlc
also some of its so poorly balanced it punishes you for buying it by locking you in permanent easy mode with a flood of op weapons. I've made the mistake of paying for dlc that felt like game breaking amateurish mods that don't even fit the game they're for.

I hate the way DLCs are done these days. When I pay for a game, I want ALL of it. If there's 1 or 2 expansions, that's fine, I'm willing to pay for those. But if the content is split over a dozen different packs, the thought of going through all of them, trying to figure out what's worth it and what's not, just puts me off playing the game entirely. It's too much of a hassle.
If developers want to sell small bits of cosmetic content and don't want to pack them in expansions, they should make in-game stores. What they're doing now, flooding digital distributions systems with DLC, makes it hard to spot actual games that are on sale.
I generally don't buy DLC at all, but I do buy expansion packs.

And also, post-release DLC isn't nearly as annoying as pre-order bonuses! The thought that bits and pieces of content were scattered across different shops, so that every customer gets a slightly incomplete version of the game, disgusts me. It's one of the reasons I occasionally consider giving up on buying games and going back to pirating.

I hate DLC that is important to the main story. I'm fine with expansions, if they're done right. Mostly they are just few hours for 10 euros, which in my opinion is nowhere near where it should be.
In ME3, Javik, a very lore heavy character was day 1 DLC, which already was on the disc and had to pay 10 bucks to open what you already owned.

Saints Row The Third didn't have enough DLC at all. I demand even more pointless DLCs for it! Seriously though, due to all the DLC spamming, I have stopped pre-ordering games, and now wait for the complete editions to go on for 75% off.

Agreed. I really wanted to get Street Fighter X Tekken... but then I looked at the missing characters, extra gems, booster packs, etc. in DLC that just really put me off the game.
I completely understand expansions and had no problem to pay for them.
I even understood DLCs when they first came out as they added some content (not much compared to an expansion) much later after the game is released...
But now? They plan the whole damn game around DLCs and release incomplete games, with DLCs in the making before the game is even released...

Usually DLCs add things the developers didn't want in the main game. Most of it is extra, meaningless stuff, and some of it is just a way to cheat. ($3 for overpowered weapons at the start of the game, for example.)
DLC that comes out long after the game comes out is sometimes equivalent to an expansion pack. In that case, more often than not, the DLC is not up to the standards of the main game, so I skip on it too. Sometimes it's very well-made and worthwhile, in which case I eventually buy it when it's on sale for a dollar or two.

Depends on the game, for example I own every single CK2 DLC, yes including the songs. And no I did not buy the pack on steam. I traded for them, paid about 15 dollars for all of them. (separate amazon keys, so it took a while, but it was a good deal!)
Some games have really shitty/useless DLCs, for example Mafia 2 is a brilliant game, but the DLCS are really crap. Same goes with Alak Wake, that standalone DLC is crap, only good thing about that is the arcade mode. The extras (soundtrack) and stuff to Alan Wake is fine, but I bought the franchise pack, so I don't really complain about the standalone DLC being bad. Was worth playing.

So, I really don't like this new way of publishers to sell content. Now, if you want to have the full game, you have to pay twice the price of the retail game, for example Darksiders 2, that has a dozen DLCs. I got it on sale, with a bunch of DLCs included, so I'm not sure what is the original content and what is DLC, but is it really necessary to enjoy the game as it was meant to be?
There are some games that aren't even released, but there are DLCs available for purchase already. Not to mention that if you purchase a game near release date, you play it before most DLCs are out.
I remember several years ago, where DLCs were big deals, almost like a expansion pack.
So, do you buy DLCs? If you don't, you think you miss a lot of the game if you don't? I honestly think if I don't buy everything, I will not enjoy the full game, but that doesn't mean I buy all DLCs :P
