$12?? Mehhh ... I'll think about it

I guess I am also one of the disappointed ones since I already own 3 of the games in there... will be unsubscribing and hope I don't regret missing whatever is in the next one...
I had high hopes since it was their first monthly bundle and was hoping 'Crypt of the NecroDancer' would be in it but is not :/
I suppose I will watch the hints for the next one and see if they get the money in my wallet...

FWIW I, personally, was actually satisfied with my order. Besiege, Valkyria Chronicles and Saints Row 4 all sound like games I might've bought on sale, and I didn't expect much of the others. Granted, they were even worse than I'd expected, but eh, I didn't get it for those.

Most people won't be happy with any of these blind bundles and I don't see them lasting long. The only reason they are doing them blind is because they know they would get less sales if they told you what games were going to be in it. People from SG will have the worst luck with these because most people here collect a lot of games and they will most likely have a lot of the games being given away so it's not worth the gamble.

$12 a month over the course of a year is $144. I think I would be happier saving the $144 for a major Steam sale and buying games I know I want at a good price rather than blindly buying games with a good chance that the majority of them will be games I am not interested in or already own.

I agree that $12 is too much for a mystery bundle. In my case, I wanted Legend of Grimrock. After the reveal, I saw I already owned Valkyria Chronicles, and Besiege was the only other one I was actually interested in playing. According to isthereanydeal.com, I could have purchased LoG2 and Besiege less than $12. I was hoping for more games that I was interested in, but the gamble didn't pay off. I don't fault HB for this - there are good games in the bundle - it just didn't work out for me, and going forward I won't be spending $12 a month on a mystery.

I've heard similar complaints about lootcrate and other similar programs as well.

maybe true that this bundle could've a worthy look for other users, but they announced

"Discover games that haven't been featured in other bundles."

and thats just a lie, fake information to the customers...

just have been informed, its just a "tricky" useage if the sentence and doesnt critically means "ALL" are unbundles.. well im feelling betrayed anyways :/ got half of it cheap, the other half didnt interest me. maybe im jus a bad loser and gambled 12$ miserably

it's not a lie. just being a little tricky. that statement doesn't mean all games will be unbundled. it means there will be unbundled game(s).

even if you're not satisfied with this, there is that:

expecting timeless classics to be unbundled is just a bit much to ask imo.

Their FAQ clearly said that it would be a mix of previously unbundled games and games which were bundled but they think are good.

I can understand the disappointment. The problem with this kind of bundle is that even though you're getting quite a few highly regarded games at a good price, few people are going to want all these games. These are relatively cheap games that are all over the place genre-wise, so many people would want no more than 2 of those, and could just buy them cheaper separately on sales.

Some people use services like this to find "new" stuff, things they just wouldn't have found on their own. That doesn't apply so much to the SG community but there are a lot of people out there who do think that way.

There's also a big element of gambling like you said yourself. You might get something fantastic, who knows? That brings in even more people. Lastly, I'd say that it's also down to laziness. It's easy to just subscribe and forget about it for a lot of people - only thinking about it once a month when a new bundle launches.

Personally, I'm totally with you on this. I can't stand blind bundles, it's basically pre-orders on steroids... but like I said, there's lots of reasons why services like Lootcrate, Nerd Box, 1UP Box, etc. are doing so well. I wouldn't expect them to go anywhere anytime soon.

Thanks to a Reddit post, I noticed that now Saints Row IV: Game of the Century Edition is on the Humble Store for $4.99. Now, for people who have just got it thanks to the Monthly, they'll offer the Upgrade Pack discounted, right? Right? No such luck, it stays at $9.99. [There's the Season Pass at $2.49 but I assume it doesn't give access to all the contents of the GOTC.]

Seriously, Humble should fire some of their marketing people.

I'd be happy enough with the bundle if it had been the GOTY SRIV edition but it being only the vanilla and then also running a SRIV sale at the same time is pure crap.

A base game discounted and the DLCs not is hardly new, but doing such a thing with this timing feels like some in the marketing department at Humble wanted to troll the Monthly subscribers.

I'm not defending the bundle or anything BUT

I did gather some statistics on people on SteamGifts discussions (this thread and two others) who opined dissatisfaction with the bundle, of the 51 people I sampled (52 counting someone who had a private profile), the average number of games owned on Steam was 1465. The min was 133 and the max was 5469.

I discussed with some others that I thought this type of "curation" would probably be good for your average Steam user (I don't believe most people actively participating in discussions here would constitute as a normal Steam user), even the average person who buys from Humble Bundle probably has far fewer games (on average, that is) than the the average user here who is far more active in Steam communities.

I did buy the bundle, but never with the intent of redeeming the keys myself, but to giveaway. I think to an average user who mostly just plays a few AAA games and some of the more popular indie games, this might be a really good bundle since these are supposed to be good games from what I know of them and I doubt the average Steam user would have more than 1 or 2 of these if even that many.

That being said, I'm still a little averse to the blind buying scheme, but obviously not so against it that I didn't buy the bundle. I'll stay subscribed through the end of the year and then decide if I want to get stop. For making giveaways/sending gifts to friends I don't think this will be a poorly invested $24.

I'm gonna turn a blind eye on this bundle's disappointment and stay subscribed. Maybe the December bundle will be better... because Christmas and stuff, y'know...

This bundle isn't even a bad bundle. Does anyone else feel that if they remove Saints Row IV (never added/revealed it in the first place, keeping this month's game count, without LoG2, at 5), this bundle would look a lot more appealing than it does? I just feel like seeing this game I already own/bundle repeat only made the bundle less appealing.

NIce that they gave Saint's Row 4 away in the bundle and not 3 hours later made it a Saint's Row weekend on their site. they are selling it individually for a couple bucks now and what a surprise the DLC is on sale too so you can buy it. LAME.

Thing is, guys, if the bundle was not a blind buy $12 bundle, it would be taken so much better. Imagine having the more indie-like games at $1 minimum, the better ones at BTA (~$6-7-8 usually) and e.g. Valkyria and another game at $12 price, like all HIBs before it. People would go for the tier they preferred, according to the games they preferred. Or alternatively, if the blind buy price was lower ($8-10). Humble always made profit selling many cheap bundles, and I am not sure they ultimately made more selling this bundle at one fixed high price, considering the huge backlash. Also take into account we here are dedicated Steam community, while not every Humble buyer is, and according to their Youtube video comments, there were a ton of people severely hating on the new price model.

Tbh, if this bundle continues to be taken so badly, Humble need to do some sort of PR thing to win the masses again. E.g. offer the future bundle at a further discount, give some promo code or some other sweet to the first buyers. If you stop for a moment and compare the type of games included in this $12 blind buy bundle with the Capcom bundle offered just recently from Humble, you will see the difference. I am not saying the indie games are bad, but they are generally much cheaper to make. Also all of these games are old - basically the newest title is 9 months old. Overall, I think it was a very cheapass move from Humble to turn their backs to everything that made them big and loved by the fans, and blatantly try to only make profit. We'll see how will this go, but unless they realize their mistake, I can only see them going down.

So they want $12/mo, or in other words, $144/year (or in my case, $190 CAD)... for totally blind purchases.

Yeah... This totally sounds like a good way to spend money.

Thing is that all the 'good bundles' in the future will probably be relegated to this subscription. Why ask for BTA's of $6-9 when you could just charge $12 and let the customer bite it if they get something they didn't want? Not that Humble's offerings have been in any way 'consistently good' for at least a year or two now.

Seems like a huge let down this month.

Their big clincher in the $12 bundle was Saints Row 4 when, at the same time, they have the entire Saint Rows Franchise on their site on sale for $16. And last month it was on sale on Steam itself for the same price.

I figure give them 2 more months to redeem themselves over the holiday season, if they can't get it together by then, than no point in trying the monthly bundle as they will have shown exactly what quality they are putting into it.

If I didn't own any of these games this would be a spectacular bundle. But I already own 4 of these games. I didn't own Saints Row 4 {not a Saints Row fan} but Besiege and Lethal League are both on my wishlist. A lot of you will say that those 2 games for $12 bucks is not a great deal. I view it as getting those 2 games for free, so it is a great deal. Anyone with a little bit of intelligence and some patience will know exactly what I mean. The rest of you not so much.

I think a lot of this negative backlash is due to the Bundle Addict Effect.

Basically everyone in this thread is a bundle addict, and has several hundreds if not thousands of games in their library. Our perspective is skewed because we hang out with other bundle addicts. A large majority of those games were likely obtained via extraordinary savings via previous bundles, sales, gifts, trading and promotions. As a result, anything less than extraordinary for typical bundle addicts would have been a disappointment.

Given the selection of games Humble put on display for their inaugural monthly bundle, I would imagine that we are not their target audience for their subscription model. I think this is largely aimed at the casuals who are not so afflicted by bundle/game buying addiction as us, and just want something easy that they can get some nice deals with from time to time. It is designed to appeal to them and capture their dollars on a regular basis and doesn't have to be OMG DEAL OF THE CENTURY because they don't check r/gamedeals compulsively 15 times a day like us [YOU KNOW YOU DO THIS!]. You have to remember that bundle addicts like us probably only make up something like 15-25% of the sales that large retailers like Steam/HB get, and that the majority of their profit comes from attracting new users and finding ways to get more dollars out of their casual userbase.

Or put another way, imagine a casual game buyer who did not own any of these games decided to give this Humble Monthly Bundle thing a try, and ends up with 6 excellent games that are all very highly regarded. This person does not hang out at SteamGifts, reddit, or other gaming forums and just likes playing games as opposed to talking about them on the internet... from this person's perspective, this bundle was probably pretty damn awesome and that he can get this sort of thing month after month for the same cost as one entree at the Olive Garden = continued, loyal, happy casual subscriber who gets lots of good games with minimal effort.

I feel much the same way. I decided a few weeks ago against buying into this because even though I suspected the games would be nice for the price and given their age, I'm also a very patient person and I'd be more than happy to wait til they hit even cheaper.

It hands over too much of the power of the consumer, to buy in blindly. It also doesn't surprise me the tactic they took with SR4, selling the base game which is pretty much a vehicle for selling DLC, as with games like Borderlands 2.

If SR4 had been the Game of the Century Edition, I would have in fact regretted not signing up for this one. As it is though, I'm happy with my abstention in this case.

I get your point, but higher investment required, longer waits, no control over what you get... it's hard for me to see the Monthly Bundle for "casuals" rather than, say, the recent Capcom Bundle.

It's rather eerie having so accurately describe your addiction.

I think you're right about the target audience though. It's a fantastic deal for anyone who only occasionally checks out bundles. It's highly likely that these games will now end up in another cheaper bundle over the next 6-12 months where it will be picked up by a lot more people (not to mention ending up on tremor).

Very true my friend. Well said. Everyone on here and those who closely follow bundles like these are addicts to some degree or another, and because of that many people are unable to keep things in perspective or see the wider picture, precisely because their views are skewed as you pointed out. Kudos to you for being more open-minded and realistic.

Sorry to throw oil on the fire here but i just got up and found out about the games in the bundle....
I'm glad i didn't buy in, except from Legend of Grimrock 2 i really don't see any game that could've been worse the 12 bucks to me.
I can feel people buying in being really disapoited as some of these games have been bundled before or had a really cheap selling price at one point or an other....
It was already a shady tactic from HB with the low charity cut and the blind buying (I don't like to gamble, maybe some people like surprise). But seeing how the first one is such a let-down, and that the game you unlock for buying the december one is Towerfall Ascension. I'm almost sure that this monthly thing is dead for a lot of us already.

I wonder, is there a limit on the number of times you can do that? because if it worked every month, then the bundles wouldn't be blind anymore. Just get it, check, refund/redeem. I suspect they would refuse to let you do it too often.

People who do this are costing them money (transaction fees + refund fees), so they will most likely stop giving refunds at some point, or block refunders from subscribing.
