A monthly Bundle? What will you do?
The anticipation is getting to me.
Watch the guesses/clues be an epic troll, and the actual games end up being:

Yay! Only a few more hours before I can confirm that I already have everything! -.-

Really high hopes aside, I mainly just want my money's worth. For $12 I could have gotten Infinifactory this week. I'm pretty confident I'd get at least 30 hrs of good play out of it, probably more. I'm just hoping what I get from humble won't leave me disappointed I didn't do that, either because it includes at least a couple games I actually want, or because it includes a few that other people want badly enough to trade for.
(The odds that any given bundle has more than a couple games I want to activate are low. I'm picky.)

Kinda excited about this. For one I really hope their hints were red herrings, on the other hand I might get two games from my wishlist and some good stuff for giveaways. Fingers crossed.
Comment has been collapsed.
Yeah, I did. as soon as I saw that they accept PayPal. Wanted to subscribe earlier. I see it as a gamble of sorts. So why not? :P
Comment has been collapsed.
If the predictions are right in the end, the strategy it's pretty stupid. The people who buy that bundle it's people who probably purchase that games on sales, because they have the money to do that.
I was expecting something more. I hope I'm worng, because I already eat that bullet. I have basically more than half the games predicted.
Well, I think at least I gonna make some cool giveaways. ;-D

Now I bought the November bundle with PayPal.
But now I do not know, where to cancel the subscription! I can not see the "cancelling" in Humble site and also can not see it in PayPal site.
So where Do I have to cancel it?
Because I do not want December bundle (or at least I will wait on next pictures of games...)

yw :) yeah, sometimes similar things happen to me too!

i just want a surprise. i hope all the hints they gave are just for trolling and we totally face different games. i just spent 12$ for the excitement, not for the already known games :ppp

A friend of mine shared ths in his activity feed. I was thinking, more people should see this, so I asked for his permission to spread it around. So here, community, MakoSipper's manifesto:
If you're wondering if you should get Humble Bundle's Monhtly Bundle, I say you probably shouldn't. A few reasons:
.
- Only 5% goes to charity, as opposed to their standard 15%, which are customizable. So it's a not-so-Humble Bundle. Note that 5% is $ 0.60.
- They say "Discover games that haven't been featured in other bundles.". They probably mean "on Humble Bundle", which is not only misleading, but will open grounds for tons of repeats.
- Subscription is a treacherous way of making you forget you'll pay for it on each month, and since they give no refunds for this one, you'll be pretty much screwed and probably curse yourself a few times for not cancelling it.
- They count on people's FOMO (Fear Of Missing Out) to make profit. Don't give in to FOMO! You'll probably regret it. $12 is a steep price for a bundle, especially when you don't know what you're buying. Don't worry, you'll have other opportunities of getting the games. The bet is just to risky to be worth it.
- First month's list is probably the following: Valkyria Chronicles, Besieged, Rogue Legacy, Transistor, Saint's Row IV and Legend of Grimrock 2. While it's not a bad list, remember that some of these have been bundled before, that you may also own at least a few of those, and, most importantly, their first monthly bundle should be one of their best, since they'll try to convince non-buyers that they've missed on a great deal. Just don't give in. You're better than that.
- Buying bundles when you know the games is the way to go. Even HB has some great bundles, like their recent Capcom one. Remember that you might purchase the $1 tier when you're not sure about the BTA (Beat The Average) games AND when the average is still low (for example, when it's $4), and only later, after you've confirmed the other BTA games and that they're interesting to you, you raise how much you pay to beat the average from the time when you payed the $1 (ie, if the average raised to $6 after the new games have been revealed, you still will only have to beat the average of $4--as per the example--from the time you paid the $1).
.
So basically HB is doing a dick business move that's not humble at all. So I can think of only two factors that might make this HBM worth it for you:
.- You live in UK and your Steam Store currency is in pounds (but that weighs only a tiny bit)
- You're only starting to build you Steam library and have around one or two hundred games tops, and most of them are really crappy indie games from other bundles
.
But, seriously, DO YOU WANNA SUPPORT A DICK MOVE? What's the message it's gonna send to bundle websites?
.
Anyway, some people have asked me about it over the last week, and I hope this sheds some light on this matter for those who are wondering if they should do it or not. ;)

These are actually some interesting and very good points. Thanks for sharing!

this....opened my eyes. I kind of want to cancel my subscription now

is it just me that doesn't see anything new here? ._.

Good points, but nobody posts this when Groupees or whomever starts taking preorders on a mystery bundle that's inevitably full of shovelware.
Comment has been collapsed.
The main difference from Groupees is that their mystery bundle is a lot cheaper, so you don't have to bet as high. I got some good bundles for $1 or $1.50 that ended up costing $3-$4 after launch, as well as some crappy bundles. It doesn't hurt as much when you get a crappy game key (which you can ofc either trade or give away) for an average of 30 cents.
Other main differences I can think of right now:
Comment has been collapsed.
also you can buy groupees bundles as a gift and sell it if you don't like the games. it shouldn't be difficult to find someone to sell if you sell it from the price you bought it. there, no harm done to your wallet.
Comment has been collapsed.
Yup, and you'll probably get something in similar value to what you actually paid for when it's a groupees bundle, which most likely won't happen with your HBM games, right?
Comment has been collapsed.
It's really hard for me to understand how people are panning HB for offering a pretty neat, new idea. If it sucks, it sucks; if it's awesome then yay! Why so much hatred and vitriol for a $12 service that will probably offer way more than that value? I mean, honestly, as an American, I spend more than that on lunch on any given weekday. It's not exactly breaking the bank and it's exciting to be surprised. I plan on keeping my subscription indefinitely, unless they seriously underwhelm.
Comment has been collapsed.
I can offer you a surprise bundle for 10 bucks. 8 game keys. I accept PayPal, or Patreon if you wanna subscribe. How does it sound?
The point here is not if it will make you poor or not, since it probably won't. It's about the awful business strategy to get more money from people by offering less than what you (and your competitors) are used to offer in return.
Comment has been collapsed.
Wait, I thought the objection was that it was a "dick move". Now it's that this is an "awful business strategy"? Are we concerned that Humble is hurting us or just themselves?
Comment has been collapsed.
Awful as in abominable, detestable, loathsome. It can be awful for them as well if more people notice how abominable, detestable, loathsome it actually is.
Comment has been collapsed.
So, if a business gives you a less good deal than they have previously been giving you it is loathsome? By what ethical standard? I don't think that by giving excellent deals a company somehow binds itself ethically to ever-after provide deals just as good. You seem to be assuming something like that.
Comment has been collapsed.
I think the "dick move" comment is more about the obvious (to me, at least) preying on our FOMO and the ambiguous statement about games that were never bundled that was later revised to bundled by HB. Sure, all the subscribers should realize what they are getting themselves into, but people in general are notoriously stupid.
Comment has been collapsed.
That makes some sense (though I did not take it at all to be what MakoSipper was saying). I guess that's the only big charge I didn't talk about when I posted below.
I'm not sure how big a deal we should consider that to be though. In my case, as in many others apparently, the element of risk seems to be acting as a disincentive.
Comment has been collapsed.
It may turn out not to be a good deal. Granted. But I don't see where the case has been compellingly made that it's a "dick move".
I'll be honest, I buy these things to get the software. That some money goes to charity is nice, but the money I actually set aside in my budget for charity goes elsewhere (I don't use it to get myself goodies). As long as Humble tells me what they're doing I don't see anything dick-ish about the allocation here.
Subscription services do not seem at all "treacherous" to me. (I assume that was hyperbole, but still...) They may have an effect on the decision of some. But you know what you're getting and can easily cancel at any time. Nothing dishonest seems to be going on.
Comment has been collapsed.
Well i only own besiege and i want the other games, i didnt bough it tho, my brother did
Comment has been collapsed.
Between the charity percentage, the subscription and not showing what games are in, this doesn't dseem too much good for me. Why not making it like a weekly bundle? I suppose the publishers want their cut so that explains the charity percentage but everything else is a bit misleading.
Comment has been collapsed.
It really is this simple. If you don't want don't buy.
Comment has been collapsed.
So basically HB is doing a dick business move that's not humble at all. So I can think of only two factors that might make this HBM worth it for you:
and I would add (my reason for subscribing): you plan on giving most/all of the games away to friends and have little interest in them for yourself. I think for $12 gettings 5-7 quality games that are are deeply discounted, especially since they are "curated" is a pretty good deal, at least I think so far, if I was buying this bundle for myself I would have been meh, but since I'm not, I'm quite happy with it lol.
Comment has been collapsed.
You could say Humble Bundle is not so humble anymore, huh?
Comment has been collapsed.
People don't seem to get that many of these games would not be in a bundle this soon, unless Humble could guarantee the developers and publishers a higher cut of money. The purpose of the monthly bundle is to attract game developers who turn their noses up at bundles because they see them as the bargain bin of gaming. So, this bundle isn't tricking you out of more money, it's giving you an opportunity that would NOT EXIST otherwise. People think they are entitled to get games in bundles. They aren't. Many developers will NEVER bundle their games. If I was a developer, you would never see any of my games in a bundle unless it was at least a decade after release and I had made all the money I could from regular sales. Bundles only end up devaluing the market value of game. Bundles don't make any sense from a business standpoint unless you're trying to get more attention for your game, and you view the losses as marketing cost, or your game has run it's course for normal sales, and now you're just trying to get a little bit of extra money. People are delusional about bundles and think that putting a game in a bundle is some sort of requirement. Nope.
Comment has been collapsed.
Many people see bundles as "where games go to die", from what I've read since I've been a member here. I disagree in some cases, but for the most part agree with what you've said here, especially the "trying to get your game more attention" part.
Comment has been collapsed.
you have some valid points but you seem to skip the main concern here, which is paying $12 for a blind purchase. i didn't see any backlash for the $12 or $15 or whatever high tiers humble bundle had in their usual bundles. on the other hand nobody is forcing anybody to buy this monthly bundle, yea i'm aware of that.
Comment has been collapsed.
Speculating a bit, that could be to the same end. This thread has revealed just how many people would rather buy a bundle than subscribe blind. Fair enough. But this means that the distribution of one of these bundles will be small. A publisher might then not worry as much that the value of their game would evaporate.
Comment has been collapsed.
Well, I can't really argue for it! :) It's just a thought.

Well that's probably gone by now, plus the timer was saying 00:00:00 for me for some reason at 10 minutes to the hour.
