$12?? Mehhh ... I'll think about it

For 12 dollars it'd better not be those stupid indie games that barely got through greenlight...

I would rather buy a game I want on sale than subscribe for something unknown. I really dislike this gamble thing they're proposing. At least Groupees pre-orders are super cheap and often a part of the games are revealed before the bundle goes live.
Hell no, Humble Bundle.

So how i see this:
for 12$ now i get the Grimrock 2 which is a nice game, and some other games at nov 6th. If i feel like those games worth at least 12$, i stay in for the next round, if i'm dissapointed i'll leave, quite ahead.

I would get it just for Legend of Grimrock 2 if I could choose where the money goes, but only 5% goes to charity, so I'll pass.

Hmmm... don't know, yet. I'll probably give it a spin for the first months and cancel it if I'm not satisfied.

I'm 0% interested in LoG2 so I'm definitely not taking the risk for the blind bundle

This is a terrible idea. The inexpensive blind pre-orders on some bundle sites like Groupees is already bad enough. $12 is too much risk to get bad games, games you don't want, or games you already own. I'd rather wait for sales and get the games I want cheaper. So many games are hitting 80-90% lately.

I will subscribe but as soon as there's a bad month I'll quit. Probably wont subscribe for a while though, wait to see if anything new comes out about it.

Saw this in the comment section in their group announcement. Thought this might be useful weird right?

Two comments made by an user named portiaevl:

to solve the credit card issue they could do a 'pre order' style system, where you pay (using the normall methods..paypal, sofort and so on) before the date the bundle will be released... problem solved.. no need for subscription and you open up your possible buyer audience to more people... win-win

portlaevi:

update - i emailed them about it
the response is below

Hi there,

Thank you for your excitement regarding the Humble Monthly subscription! Due to compatibility issues, at this time we can only support our native credit card processor, Stripe. Humble Monthly is a whole new world for us, so while we can only accept Stripe payments for the time being, we are examining the possibilities of partnering with other payment processors in the future. Keep in mind, this may not happen overnight, or even before the November Bundle closes, so if you are interested in subscribing, you will need to use Stripe for now.

Thanks again for reaching out to us, and for supporting our unique network of developers, gamers, and charities!
Feel free to contact us with any further questions, and happy gaming!

I wrote to support, asking how many games can be expected to be in the bundle. Here's the reply I got:

The games included in the Humble Monthly subscription are meant to be a secret until the bundle releases on November 6th! What I can say is that each month, subscribers will get around 5 games that are a mix of hit new releases and classic games.

My guess was 2 new 3 classic, I guess as much as a pessimist I am, your guess was even less optimistic. :-)

I've read too much Nietzsche to be an optimist. (: On another side I think that they reveal the best game first and others later just like groupees does with their pre-orders.

This is bogus. $12 a month for random bundles, many of which I'd skip if given the choice? I'm out...

Probably been asked here already, but the first thing that occurred to me is "one key per bundle?" and I'm expecting the answer will be yes. So when their "[...] favorite games at one fixed price. Includes everything from recent hits to hidden gems to timeless classics [...]" includes yet another friggin' copy of Sword & Sworcery or LIMBO (both of which are GREAT games, by the way) I'm stuck with them and can't even trade them away to someone who somehow hasn't already played them.

Until I see evidence to the contrary (that they won't be doing the evil stuff they've been doing with one-key-mishmash-of-games lately), I'm out.

Don't worry, you won't see them as both been bundled by them already.
[maybe they'll make a special prequel or something :p ].

HB has already bundled both of those games multiple times (three times a piece, I think) and I haven't seen anything in the marketing around this yet that says their "classic" games won't include "classic" ones they've already bundled. In fact, given the relatively recent Humble All-Stars bundle, I would say they're already comfortable with re-bundling games if they can get away with it.

Also, note that the answer above:

Q: Will keys be offered as SEPARATE keys?

At launch, all games in the monthly bundle will include Steam codes. However, in the future, some games will be DRM-free and may not be on Steam, or may appear on other platforms.

does not answer the question at all. The question is "will we be getting 1 game = 1 key" and the answer is "at first we'll be giving out Steam keys but later on we may also provide DRM-free games". That doesn't say anything about the ratio of games to keys in each bundle.

Definitely out. :-/

To me HB has been delivering a lot of double dips as of late. LoGR2 has been on Steam Sale when I bought it, so not interested atm. So for personally, HB is not that appealing at all. I take HB as not a great bundle site. Having over 2k games, the best bundles still come from indiegala and groupees atm. Indiegala has roughly 3 bundles a week and delivers mostly non-duplicates, groupees delivers cheap bundles with greenlight titles which will eventually also become keys. Bundlestars is always a bit of a gamble as they have a habbit of repeating a lot of games from previous bundles and repacking it in a new bundle. HB I mostly look at it, and sometimes buy the cheap tier if it's interesting.

HB still better quality-wise than most IG bundles, but if you're looking for new titles - IG and groupees like you said. :)

and I was just rejoicing Square enix's decision to cancel augment your preorder policy about mankind divided..
this is certainly not the direction I thought HB would have taken..such tempting n expensive jump into dark waters..
Edit:- I could buy a game I actually want every month for $12.
imagine you save for 6 month and spend $72 in steam summer and winter sales
thinking this way...it's not so tempting now.

Exactly. Not to mention that a game that's a good deal for 12$ in january, let's say (in HB monthly) will be probably even cheaper on the summer sale. Game prices has insanely short lifespan - like Witcher 3 is out for 2-3 months, or something like that, early summer, and it was already available for 50% at GOG. A 1 7 months old Thief was in yesteryear's SQEnix surprise pack, and so on. I feel this monthly deal will be kind of " get it fast, get it cheaper" but on a long term it's not that good deal.

So... Did anyone opt in? I wonder if there is an easy way to cancel subscription from the website directly, if that's the case, I would grab the first month and cancel right away.

No. Too expensive for completely unknown games. I might join if you could choose your own games or something, but not interested in this kind of blind luck thing. What if you already have all the games you happen to get? And what's wrong with paypal?

So is this whole thing just a way to get more people to use Stripe? If Stripe is the only way to pay, then I'm probably out.
Plus, I'd like to know how the keys are delivered so that I at least know I can give away unwanted or dup games.
[Edit: although I do want a "free" DRM-free LoG2...]

There is no way I'll gamble $12 on this. Especially now that I have been a bit disappointed in the bundles. If they would put an option in to subscribe and then get the bundle of the previous month (of course paying for it), then I might consider it after a month or two, but not just on blind faith.

$12 with no commitment whatsoever on the content, not platform, not if they are DRM-free, not even amount of games or an estimated full price value. I for example could end up with a 100% worthless bundle if non of them have a Linux build. Yet 7% say they will subscribe? I'm sure there's something similar in English, but I don't know it, so instead a direct translatation of a Swedish proverb: "Don't buy the pig in the sack".

In English the phase is a "pig in a poke", which means a pig in a blanket or sack. Or rather, "Don't buy what you presume to be a pig in a bag, because its almost certainly a cat in a bag."
