GOG offering DRM free games is nice and such, but do people really buy and play games on GOG?

Personally I only use Steam. I won the division with my new GPU long ago but it was on uplay so I didn't even bother.

Do you use, play and buy on a different platform than Steam on a regular basis?

GOG has a few originals that have shoddy remakes on Steam but that's literally the only use I have for them. It's a shame in a way cause I liked their original vision of bringing games back from the dead and would like to have supported it more but I literally can't give a fuck about Steam being DRM and avoiding that seems to be their major USP nowadays. The convenience of having most everything in one place will always win out here.

GOG is great and has good regional prices. I bought the complete Witcher 3 experience for U$S 25.

I have games on Origin and GoG, Uplay, etc... However I don't buy games from those platforms because of limited selection. If GoG had a larger catalog, odds are I'd use it over Steam, but Steam is simply the best option at this time for keeping my library together.

no regional price on GOG

That is not exactly true, they just don't have such an extensive one as Steam.

I prefer GOG for games that are older or otherwise have issues on modern machines (a lot of games from just before the dawn of multithreading are a pain to get to run as intended). Games without online features, I could go either way, but if they have online stuff I prefer to get those through Steam. Some GOG games actually have missing or inconvenient or changed online features. I've acquired a handful things on ShinyLoot and Desura because I was able to do so more cheaply, but I regret them now (ShinyLoot shut down, and Desura's a zombie version of its former self that will probably die soon). Origin and UPlay, I would never choose unless I had to. I own some freebies on Origin, like a lot of people, but that's it until there's something exclusive there that I can't do without. UPlay, I still haven't used at all and I'll probably keep it that way without a damn good reason to use it.

I love GOG. They are the experts when it comes to fixing classic games to run on modern systems. That's the main reason I have an account with them.

<3 GOG! I spend most of my real money there and respect their business practices the most out of any digital games store, but I will purchase from any store or use any platform that has a game I'm interested in playing.

I don't like Steam's client interface and find it terrible for managing a large collection of games, especially when a lot of my favorite games aren't even available on the service. I use my own frontend cataloger/launcher so that I don't have to be beholden to their limited selection of games. And yes, despite the fact that they have many thousands of games in their catalog, there are still a lot of amazing games they do NOT have and will not likely ever be made available for various reasons. To artificially restrict oneself to a single store's catalog and never consider buying or playing something on a different service is basically letting one company dictate and control what and how you can and can not play.

I don't use GOG but I play some of the games there namely Heroes 3 (Steam one sucks).

But yeah, 0.00001% of the time only.

Steam and Bnet are two major platforms I'm using right now.

Yeah lol, GOG's Heroes III is better in every aspect than the Steam version. It can be even used on android with a free program - doesn't work in every aspect, but having random maps + all expansions while the "HD" have only the base game, it really worth it :3

I have about 86 games on GOG by now, Most games I bought during sale also on Weeks and Weekend deals and some of them are gifted or from community contest (non GOG official). Probably my second platform other than Steam by now.

Other platform I used Origin, only to claim a free games but I really never use of it. for Uplay... never gonna touch that again.

I accidentally bought Witcher 1 and 2 for GOG from Humble Bundle, and Besides free games from Origin, I had excess origin keys from a bundle, so I used them.

I use Steam, Uplay, Origin and GoG. I buy wherever I can get the best deal. A lot of the Uplay games I have, for example, came from Humble bundles. I have no allegiance to any corporation, they're all in it to make a profit.

For older games, I only buy on GOG now. Steam doesn't make sure that older games can run on newer systems. GOG does. I've bought games on steam that wouldn't even start (without a lot of work around on my part). With GOG, all you have to do is hit play. They've already worked out the kinks for you (in most all cases).

And they often add in the fan patches by default to make sure the game has less issues and bugs. And if not, there is always a sticky on the game's forum that links the mandatory 3rd party tools.

I concur, there are older games on Steam that run just as good as they did it on GOG! well, because it's the GOG version on Steam, lel

Yes, GOG as a platform is better than Steam, but their client is a lot worse still.
I have games on Origin as well, on Big Fish, on GamersGate (they have a content delivery system for non-Steam-exclusive games too), Humble Bundle, TellTale account… I only lack games on UPlay. I kinda want to keep it that way though…
Some time ago I was hoarding everything on Steam, then realised, that it is shortsighted and doesn't give that much of a convenience. Plus by diversifying my library, I don't have the restriction of only looking for a good price if it is on a specific platform. So, now my preference in getting something has shifted to GOG, HB, TellTale, Steam, Origin, GamersGate, with Steam only being #1 spot when it comes to small casual genres like time management or HOGs. (Funny enough, Steam is better for those than Big Fish…)

GOG Galaxy is still in Beta, so it's still ironing out kinks. So of course it's worse than Steams.

I know, but the way it is progressing, we may sooner see a DayZ 1.0 release than Galaxy moving out of beta. :) I like it as a downloader, but I start games outside of it.

I like it, easier for me to use, less clutter, though, I wish it had better stuff, like more pics (to lazy to Google, when I got Indiana Jones pack, got a refund because the game sucked though good reviews the 3Dish one).

As for DayZ. I have the Arma2 add on, still can't play it so I guess I will never know Looks towards the sunset with the breeze blowing through my short hair

i liketo keep my games in the corresponding publisher-clients. assassin's creed, far cry, watch dogs, etc in uplay, rragon age, dead space, etc. in origin and the stuff that doesn't have an own publisher-client in steam. as desmight said, i don't like keeping many clients open.

I use steam, uplay, gog galaxy, and origin and I buy often on all clients, happy with all of them and with all games that I own on non steam clients, not so much with all games on steam (many crappy games from bundles).

Order of preference as clients, as number of games steam comes first :P

  1. GOG
  2. Origin
  3. Steam
  4. Uplay
  5. Desura
