More like "if you have something bad to say, be a (wo)man and show who wrote this 'and your mom is a beach' comment". Not that it's a good thing...

not really it is just making you accountable for what you say. it looks like they are not going to make it illegal but you will have to identify yourself and be held accountable for your actions, which i can see as a good thing. it will stop all these "im big in front of my screen" people, people who use racism and bulling behind a veil of anonimity.

And it is to be used for false statements from competing businesses

Not worth killing freedom of speech, which this seems like it would do, who is to say whats trolling and whats not trolling? Sometimes its a fine line and hard to tell.

I get not screaming fire in a crowded room, but this...no.

I wonder how they will enforce this, maybe by making your IP address and other information more readily available, maybe so when you sign up for a new site they include that in the terms and rights that you need to click agree to that no one reads anyways.

"The legislation will [also] help cut down on the types of mean-spirited and baseless political attacks that add nothing to the real debate and merely seek to falsely tarnish the opponent's reputation by using the anonymity of the Web."

I don't live in New York, which can lick my taint, or Arizona which can extra double lick my taint for all the bullshit laws coming out of that state.

Meh i don't care, maybe know all the little 14 teen year olds will stop hiding behind their monitors and keyboards and grow some balls. Sometimes you need to be accountable for what you say.

Nice freedom you have there, americans.
Also seeing how "trolling" lost its meaning over last lets say 5 years, its going to be fun. Right now if you disagree with someone OR tell a joke OR just don't act the way someone likes, you are a "troll".

if you look at the article it seems like it is aimed at the business form of trolling. and they will probably throw in bullying in there for all the kids bulling each other by text/posts. and its aimed at sites where you can post as "guest" or "anyonomus" and if you dont Identify yourself in some way they just delete your post, nothing else.

"Too often, rival businesses will post negative and false posts to hurt their competition," he said. "With more and more people turning to online reviews, it is important to ensure that the posted information, good or bad, is from actual customers and not rival competitors. … The legislation will [also] help cut down on the types of mean-spirited and baseless political attacks that add nothing to the real debate and merely seek to falsely tarnish the opponent's reputation by using the anonymity of the Web."

One does not simply censor the internet.

Also, I thought the BBB was a pretty reliable source when it comes to business reviews over the net? I can't say for sure.
