Is it a reasonable request to put up for consideration that the games from Bundeled List and Exploited List could be removed from it after a certian amount of time ? Say, 9 months ?

Suggestions made in this thread:

  • Perhaps a permaban list would be in order for viciously exploited games, like Metro 2033. >implyed by Shad0WeN...sort of
  • BTA games recive full value. suggested by xamtheking
  • 0 contributor value for exploited games.
  • A limit of how many bundeled games per a time frame can be given for the full value.

No because quite a few bundle games come back again

Then the timer would be reset.

Sure, that's a reasonable request to put up for consideration. It has been by many people, including myself.

Then people would just sit on their keys for said games for that amount of time. I'd bet good money that if you were to add Metro 2033 back then there would be a flood.

Then that's more games for everyone in the community

No because with the suggestion offered here they would just horde their bundle games instead of giving them away initially.

Well most of what you have given away is from bundles and it would directly benefit you so that's hardly surprising.

Yet the winners of the giveaways would be happy to have that game.

There's nothing stopping someone from doing a forum giveaway. Metro 2033 was removed for a good reason.

True, and i did that with Metro. Still, maybe they want to show off ? A 0 value for such games ?

I'd be fine with that as long as it didn't cause site slowdown. In fact I suggested adding Arma III Alpha Lite as a 0 point giveaway so we don't have to worry so much about it being passed off as the full game.

You could avoid that by not being too clear about the time it takes.

People who want to misuse it for higher CV will not know how long they will have to hold on for it. Heck, the rules might even be changed in the meantime. So if you are out purely for the high CV, it is a pretty bad investment to buy budle games for example, as you simply don't know if they ever will be full value again (might be in another bundle in the meantime) and when.

But it would also stop a lot of games from being on the bundles list. Currently there are some nice games that have some neat savings with them occasionally, but the fact that they are not full value might stop people from giving them away.

This argument comes up every time, but has it actually happened? I say give it a try. It can't be worse than the current floods that happen every time something goes on sale or gets bundled.

18 months sounds better

It's just a number. I put 9 months as that's the time of pregnancy.

The problem with that solution is, like xamtheking mentioned, bundle games tend to repeat, but also it will simply encourage people to wait 9 months or whatever the wait is and then flood the site to get huge amounts of contrib. It gives exploitation a waiting period, but it doesn't actually stop the bad behavior.

Seems unlikely to me for someone to wait that long. And if we use LucasCs' time table, ut's even less probable.

You underestimate the lengths to which people will go.

It's unlikely now, since there's no incentive, but this will create that incentive. Many people wait months for good sales, and this would be just a modification of that same behavior.

Think you are right. Metro 2033 was a fun game, but THQ gave away ridiculous numbers of keys. As soon as it's possible to make giveaways for them here we'll get flooded. It's so bad even gala giveaways won't let people give them... :)

A better suggestion would be to only take BTA bundle keys off the bundle list

That is a thoughful suggestion.

I'd say it depends how low the average is and what CV it yields. Currently, Guns of Icarus Online Collector's Edition on IndieGameStand breaks this.

I can say for a fact I've seen all of these suggested at one time or another.

Pretty sure most of them at reasoning as to why they believed it would work too rather than "This is how it should be, no reason why!".

I gotta go to sleep. Tommorow i will read new posts and will try to extract some more suggestions (read OP).

Let's make that 10 years. That seems fair. (I'll just hold on these keys for 10 years, then my plan will be complete)

"A limit of how many bundeled games per a time frame can be given for the full value."

There is already a limit of how many bundled games can be given for full value. It's just that it's limited not by time, but by the other stuff you've given away. I much prefer that to be honest.
