Does anyone else think the # of points awarded should be lowered again? I'd rather be given fewer points and invest those in games I really want then the current system where I have more points than I know what to do with. If I wanted I could throw my points into random giveaways for games I'm mildly interested in and have a chance of winning over someone who really wants the game. Less points = more chances of winning what you really want.

Edit: It's been awhile since I've seen such blatantly ignorant negativity. If you don't have something constructive to say, leave. This plan would result in a better chance to win things YOU ACTUALLY WANT. If you're only interested in winning something for free and you don't care what it is, then go ahead and blindly insult me like the rest. You're only hurting yourself.

uh no, no it shouldn't. 5 percent is fine

Agreed. I think the large influx of points is because of the current Humble Bundle, which has a ton of high-value games.

You state no reason or defense. The current system leaves people with more points than they can spend on games they truly want. With more and more bundles being released, this is more likely than ever. The system will be flooded with bundle points and when the games you truly want come along, there will be thousands of entries. Anyone with a brain, who actually cares about what it is they win, should agree with this plan.

Anyone who likes the status quo is illustrating the fact that they simply want free shit, no matter what it is.

Hey I like free shit. And giving free shit a chance has taken me outside of my comfort zone. Sounds like a win for me.

It's not. It will continue to be flooded with more and more points as bundles continue to increase in popularity and when things you are actually interested appear, you will have no chance at entering them. The points need to be lowered, or you need to be able to spend more points per giveaway.

Iirc this was suggested in SGv2 beta, but people voted for the system to remain as-is.

Nope :P You can always enter GA which ends in 4 weeks to store points for GA you really want :P

I disagree. Current point system is ok. Personally I don't have enough points to enter the giveaways I want.

Then perhaps I recommend playing the 50% of games in your inventory that you have yet to play even once.

What does playing games in your inventory got to do with the point system? Perhaps you should try to keep the discussion closer to the topic.

You have no room to talk Trucidar seeing as how 85% of your games are unplayed. How about you go play the ones you have not played yet before complaining about wanting less people in giveaways you are trying for.

perhaps you do not have enough because you want to many games??

i do not like the point system for the reason the OP posted i think it really is to many,as the games i really want have 1,000's of entry and the only ones left for most part with lower entry is for good reason they are not that good of a game

none the less i am new so i never had a chance to vote on how the point system is but if a lot people like it that is fine

i think it is broken and could use less earning as i have plenty of points to enter what i want and i end up using extra to enter what i mildly want for a better chance of winning a game

none the less this is my opinion but i still love the site as the point system the way it is not broken i just think it cold use less of them

that way people really have to decide what they want instead entering so many,i have only been a member for about 2 weeks and already almost entered 200 drawings that is about 100 a week

i just think it would be better if i say only had 100 points and there is 4 games i want and they all cost 30 points or more i would chose wisely the way it is now i pretty much enter about 15 or so a day what if i was only allowed to enter say 5 at most

anyhow that just how i feel and i am sure plenty of people like how it is now and it does work but just because something works does not mean it is perfect

I can see what the OP wants. He wants points to be reduced so that there are less people entering the giveaways he enters.

Uh, exactly. And you should want the same. Everyone here should want a higher chance to win the games they are most interested in.

OR you could try to join private giveaways and private groups that have very few people in them that give you a far better chance at winning that game and just leave the rest of us to go for what ever games we damn well please. Some of us have a wide selection of game types we like and are interested in many games.

You would also be able to enter less giveaways which could potentially make the higher chance to win negligible. This would only really be true for public giveaways or mass giveaways during holidays though.

Yes, getting less points won't increase the chances of winning the popular games by much. But maybe he likes niche games, or there's a specific game he'd love in a bundle he missed. Giveaways of weaker games get only a couple hundred participants even with the modern system of ("dish out points for anything") surplus of points.

There aren't too many games (and giveaways of games) people truly want to win here. Points would be adequate to participate in all the giveaways of those few games.

If you change something across the board, your chance to win changes in the same way as other people's. And you can already enter for just games you want instead of games you don't really care about.

Less entries = more chances of winning what you really want. I see what you did there.

What's with all the negativity? Surely everyone wants better chances at winning their favourite games in exchange for not participating in games of milder interest.

From giveaway creator's perspective, they can be sure that whoever wins his game will be happy about it.

I think the point generation is fine as it is. 5% of each created giveaways means there's 95% of them you can't afford to enter. Of course if you already have tons of games, like I do, you end up not having that many you could enter anyway.

I'm sitting at 300 points most of the time and I don't feel the need to spend them all. I enter for games I actually want to play and maybe from time to time a game I'm on the fence about. (I figure if I get it for free it will be the perfect opportunity to try it out.)

I agree that points should be lowered. We'd have a better chance of winning because there wouldn't be a thousand entries. They should do it more like Game Miner does and give you a 50 point cap unless you giveaway games and up your level. The way it is now on Steam Gifts there are tons of cheap games for only 5 points and they get too many entries. That's why people join exclusive giveaway groups to have a better chance of winning because there are less people entering.

Point gain tend to very according to bundles, specially humble bundles. Sometimes you have plenty to spend, some other days you have almost none. It's believe fine as it is.

I too have MUCH more points than I really need, and I do agree with less points meaning people would put some thoughts into which GAs they enter (meaning, possibly, the people who are very much interested in the game in question would have better chances of winning).

I can only speak for myself, however. I might be perfectly fine with just 100 pts, while others might need much, much more points to enter all the GAs they want.
