Greetings All

Ok so I have a damaged shoulder (torn Cartilage/ligament/tendon something) and work a physical job so it looks like when I get surgery I will be unable to use my dominant right arm for a few months and even after that it will be over 6 months before I can return to my actual job.

So i need some suggestions of games that are able to be played one-handed and aren't too repetitive/grindy/boring and before anyone makes the joke I do realise that there genres like hentai and sex games that are "designed" to be played one handed

Update------------- giveaways have all ended----

Also Thanks for all the suggestions, I am still waiting to hear back about surgery but hopefully in the next few weeks i will get an update

Obligatory giveaways with extremely high tech anti-bot protection

Level Nought - some fairly bad bundle games (Deadly Indies Bundle) that I used my invite only template on instead of my everyone template

Level Two A variety of games from different bundles

Level One Handed actually level 2, but adult themed games that are "not my bag baby"

HOG (hidden object) and Board games,
I suggest voicebot to do some of the commands in game if needed too.

Coincidence that I ran into this thread haha. I know how you feel, it sucks. I played VNs during my injury but that's not for everyone. Hope you heal soon.

Turn based games: strategy (HOMM, King's bounty, Disciples, song of conquest), tactics (Wastland 1,2,3, road to eden) rpg (Divinity original sin, fallout 1,2, age of decadance) and many others. RTS, RPG, like pathfinder, solasta, tiranny, pillars of eternity. You only need to exclude arcades, platformers, racing and action games

Sorry to hear about your injury. Wishing you a good recovery.

Bayonetta has an "automatic mode" which allows for one-handed play. Basically turns the entire game into one big quick-time event.

It's on sale for $5 over at Fanatical: https://www.fanatical.com/en/game/bayonetta

I wish you a swift recovery <3

Visual novels in general can easily be played one handed. Many text based and choose-your-own-adventure games too.

I recommend both One Finger Death Punch games, they are very fun :). Like the title says, you literally only need one finger to play it so if you have them, give it a try.

Playing OFDP with one finger on their non dominant hand might be a sure way to injure the one hand not going into surgery though... ;)

yeah thats true :(
however, iirc on the 2nd game you can manually adjust the speed you want to play, so you can try playing the game the slowest possible way. Ofc it's not a bulletproof solution, but if you are bored one day, it's worth a shot.

The second game definitely did a lot to improve playability and it's a fun game to play in bursts. I usually can't stop playing so I spend way too much time on it :D

One Finger Death Punch
Vampire Survivors
VVVVVV
Some other 2D platformers where you only need to jump (key rebinding helps): Sonic Mania, etc.
Kingdom series (Two Crowns I think is the latest)
Autorunners: Bit.Trip Runner, etc.
Some rhythm games with basic controls: Super Hexagon, DDR-likes, Thumper, etc.
Breakout-likes that don't require the mouse: Shatter, etc.
Pinball games (may have to rebind the flipper keys to be close to each other)
A lot of simpler racing games (with key rebinding your options may be broadened)

The following would require (presumably awkward left-handed) mouse movement, but have no or very little time pressure:

Most turn-based tactical, strategy or CRPG games: XCOM, Into the Breach, Civilization, Baldur's Gate 3 is probably ok, etc.
Most card/deckbuilder games: Slay the Spire, Monster Train, Dicey Dungeons, Hearthstone, etc.
Most top-down tower defense games
Most point and click adventure games
Visual novels: not a genre I typically like personally but there are fun ones like Ace Attorney
Clicker/idle games: Cookie Clicker, etc.
A lot of puzzle games

Any point and click adventure, hidden object, or visual novel. Also plenty of puzzle games, city builders, and strategy games. Basically anything that only requires to use the mouse in order to play.

As an example, here's a few devs/publishers where most of their catalogs can be played mouse only:

I can recommend Vampire Survivors, realistically you only need to move and confirm stuff, so a gamepad stick and occasionally pressing A/X in the menus is the only thing you need

Alongside the recommendations I gave in the other topic:
I see you like XCOM-like games, maybe now's the time to play through Mutant Year Zero, Phoenix Point or XCOM: Chimera Squad... or you could just continue (or start over) with XCOM 2

If not, I skimmed through your library and found these unplayed games (there are certainly more of them that could fit the profile but these were the ones I noticed):
Carto is a suprisingly simple and fun game, you could manage to play through it with a gamepad and one hand
Could be a good time to break out a great turn based game like Darkest Dungeon
Some (J)RPGs like Edge Of Eternity perhaps, or Indivisible?
You have games from Freebird that have beautiful short stories, I think they're all made in RPGMaker so they should be playable one-handed
Walking simulators like Gone Home or Tacoma are ideal for your situation (both are playable with one hand on both sticks, clumsy but playable)
The Holy Potatoes! series are a fun mouse-only management/simulations
Turn based tactics like Into the Breach
Zachtronics games are a good bet if you're into puzzle games... I'd add shapez because it's basically an 'open world puzzler'
A good old point & click like Sanitarium is a great choice, among others

Good luck woth your surgery, hope all goes well!

edit: I'll confirm the recommendation of VVVVVV, it's a platformer yes but you need only directional inputs to play it

Hi Nigel,

I checked what games we both owned:

I played this Point and Click game a while back Cognition: An Erica Reed Thriller
. It had a pretty interesting story.

I think this one is quite a bit shorter, but a pretty interesting premise: Don't Escape: 4 Days to Survive

I know you didn't ask for this 😅, but...
For help healing, I recommend making some bone broth soup. Maybe even adding in some beef tendons every other week.
For cell repair, you'll plenty of Vitamin C and K. Cabbage is great for that. Maybe chicken drumsticks, rice, carrot, cabbage, onion soup. Maybe add some lentils or garbanzo beans for extra protein and fiber.

Don't forget to get some direct sunlight outside. I heard Vitamin D helps with muscle repair and helps brighten your mood.

Good luck healing.

When I broke my hand, I played Puzzle Agent and the Cossack games. I'd say generally all kinds of adventure games and hidden object games will serve you well

Ouch, sounds rough. Sending you good vibes for a speedy recovery

Lots of great suggestions already so I'm just adding a few you can probably play one-handed depending on what you like to play:
Stardew Valley
Car Mechanic Simulator (s)
Telltale games

From a quick look at your unplayed games, here are a few that I know can be played one-handed (and are pretty good)
Blue Estate The Game (it's an on-rail shooter)
Do Not Feed the Monkeys
Eliza
Eon Altar (you use a cellphone as your controller but you can use a stand not to hold the phone)
Femida
Forager
Her Story
John Wick Hex
Lacuna – A Sci-Fi Noir Adventure
Night Call
SUNLESS SEA
Through the Darkest of Times
TOEM

This helped me a lot past year with another shoulder problem:

I even was able to configure ATS/ETS2 to be able to drive with 95% mouse and the odd keypress.
