Er, does Doublefine even have the kind of funds for this? They aren't that big...

i highly doubt it, at least not for THQ's big names, as the article states Blob might be affordable for them.

Found this in commments section, not sure if true or whatever though:

"Double Fine are currently being backed by a private investment company called Dracogen, otherwise known as Canadian multi-millionaire Steven Dengler, who funded the PC versions of Iron Brigade, Costume Quest and Stacking as well as recent iOS game Middle Manager of Justice and I also believe has contributed significant support to the Double Fine Adventure, as have I.

I'm not completely sure of the situation with the IP's for Costume Quest and Stacking but I would assume that Double Fine are more interested in retrieving these than acquiring new ones. Besides after Amnesia Fortnight I'd hardly think they'd need to purchase ideas to work on when they're are at least three or four projects going on right now."

isn't they just partnered up? as i understand it, the IP's are still their own, and they just hired THQ to distribute Costume Quest and Stacking for XBOX. I think there might be some genuine interest in THQ's IP's there,
Since those weren't half as run down as EA did it with theirs.

Steve funds a ton of stuff, I can see him backing them.

Yeah, and I've read that all games will go to one company when the individual games don't get enough money (but I'm not sure about that).

Edit: This?

Other way around. The franchises will be sold ala carte if the as-a-whole don't beat the combined bids for the franchises.

They're just there for Stacking and Costume Quest's rights. They were published on consoles by THQ. Much like how they eventually bought back the rights to Psychonauts from Microsoft.

Hell yeah for double fine hell no for EA...

This is a really strange turn of events. Double fine can't even publish their own games, yet they're going to buy out THQ's IPs?

They can however publish their games through Steam without a problem.

There isn't a point in acquiring one of THQ IPs and not have a planned console release for it, assuming they're looking for the AAA titles.

They are probably looking for their own games' IPs, since THQ published Stacking and Costume Quest. (For XBLA and PSN at least.)

THQ doesn't own those IPs, they merely had a publishing deal with Double Fine.

The Question is why not? I'd rather see another Saints Row by them, even if it takes a decade to finish, than "Call of Halofield: Gangstas Of Liberty Row."
